Chapter 19, covering folk litera- ture--tales, riddles, legends, and graffiti--can probably be enlarged considerably by experts in that field. Once they realize that the Survey wants cartographic portrayal, it will be a comparatively limited task to post on maps the locations iof specific instances of folk lit- ,erature. Of course, there will remain the problem of What to use in the final atlas, whether to show complexes or elements, whether to iattempt showing some of.the results of more recent research on structure in folklore° In any case, converting verbal descriptions of distribution into maps seems to be the first item for the Survey to undertake with regard to Chapter 19. Note: Maps of some Indian folk- tale elements were included to keep that sector before th• Survey. No clear sentiment was expressed as to whether to include Indian material in this atlas.
