GLOSSARY OF TERMS1. interactive instruction – student-centered using technology to involve

students; teachers are more of guides, instead of giving lectures2. personal response systems – a way to monitor student learning

electronically using handheld clicks or computer-supported personal response systems

3. mobile assessment tools – any device with a computing capability, PDA, cell phone, iPad, etc.

4. inclusion – students of all abilities are included in the same class5. software as a service (SAAS) – uses a server farm to store software6. social networking integration – can connect school library Web sites to

social networking sites7. OpenID - a system that allows users to have one user ID and

password for all sign on, 8. streaming media – watching DVDs online 9. Cloud software – software where documents are saved on servers, not

on hard drives10. scrapbooking – the ability to find resources in online full-text

databases and then save parts of them on your computer for later use.

SUMMARYThe 21st Century library is always changing. New technology needs to be implemented in the library so it will stay current in the students’ lives.

Librarians need to work with teachers to implement Web 2.0 tools, e-books, etc. Librarians need to stay current with new technology and be a change agent in their school to use it.
