68. The Book of Patients

Chapter 1. The saying that sickness is expiation for sins.

1949. Narrated Abu Sa-id Al-Khudri and Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “No fatigue, no disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” [7:545-O.B]

1950. Narrated by Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger said, “The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it but when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but he re-mains patient till Allah removes his difficulties.) And Al-Fajir (an impious wicked evil-does) is like a pine tree which keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when he wishes.” [7:547:-O.B]

1951. Narrated by Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger said, “If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him with trials.” [7:548-O.B]

Surah 1.Al Fatihah (The Opening)

1. In the name of Allah, Most Gra-cious, Most Merciful.19

2. Praise be to Allah, The Cherisher and sustainer20 of

the Worlds;

3. Most Gracious, Most Merciful;

4. Master of the Day of Judgment.

5. Thee do we worship,21 and Thine aid we seek.

6. Show22 us the straight way;

7. The way of those on whom Thou has bestowed Thy Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath23, and who go not astray.24
