WHAT IS THE OZZI SYSTEM?The OZZI System was designed to eliminate disposable waste simply by changing out the throw away mindset to that of a reusable way of thinking. A student enters a dining center, makes a food choice, places the food in a reusable container, consumes the food wherever they wish, and returns the empty container to an OZZI machine to receive credit /token for their next use. The machines collect 120 plus containers into a bag. The containers are regularly removed from the machine and then properly sanitized and ready for next use.

WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM?There are four elements to the program the OZZI machine: collection, the reusable container, the token for the exchange of value and verifi-cation of exchange, and online maintenance for the collection and updating of the system.

WHAT ABOUT A CARD READER OPTION?ore recently participants have requested to have a card reader option to the token exchange. The card reader can be interfaced with dining meal plan programs.

GRANT WRITING ASSISTANCE?Yes, we do have templates that have been used to secure funding. Often times student groups, sustain- ability officers, faculty, and Presidential task forces seek funding on campus to defray the start-up investment.

SHOULD I HAVE MULTIPLE LOCATIONS TO COLLECT?Historically the easier it is for a participant to return their container, the more they are apt to use the system. In many cases current participants have added additional collection locations with the success of the OZZI system on campus.

ONLINE MAINTENANCE?From data collected, technology updates, monitoring performance and collection, the online maintenance ensures our successful day-to-day operations for the OZZI.

The University of California is commit-ted to “zero waste” by 2020. Its Merced Campus utilizes the OZZI system. Initial findings indicate the OZZI boxes on cam-pus collected 150,000 reusable take-out food containers from stu-dents in a short period of time, which trans-lates into 3.5 tons of waste diverted and an estimated cost savings of $34,500. This led to University of California at Merced winning a national award for its innovative waste re-duction efforts.

HOW THE OZZI SYSTEM WORKS

A perfect example of the OZZI system in action begins with the consumer who chooses to dine at a food

service venue utilizing reusable containers. Food is ordered “to go” and placed in a reusable container.

The consumer conveniently enjoys the meal where and when he or she chooses. The consumer then

returns the empty container to an OZZI machine.

ALL IT TAKES IS TWO SIMPLE STEPS

1. Insert a used container into the slot of the OZZI machine, with the bar code first and facing up.

2. Retrieve your OZZI token, which will provide you with a new reusable container the next time you

place a take-out order.

The participant has completed the requirements for the use and return of the OZZI program. The reusable

containers are then collected, cleaned, properly sanitized, and reused up to 300-plus times. The containers

are collected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When not in use, the patented design goes into sleep mode to

ensure energy efficiency. Some machines have collected more than 150,000 containers to date. Millions of

reusable containers have already been collected and reused.

AGREENOZZI: OUR STORY

OZZI Enterprises Founder William Andreozzi, inventor and seasoned Food Service Professional,

designed and built the OZZI System, an invention to change Food Service as we know. In June of 2013

he partnered with Thomas L. Wright, an accomplished food service consultant expert, to lead and build

the new company known as AGREENOZZI. Wright is the company’s Chief Executive Officer. “Meeting

Bill, I was impressed and inspired,” Wright says. “I saw the wisdom and the genius behind the design

of the OZZI technology.” Together they formed a new entity, AGREENOZZI. Wright became an inves-

tor and now oversees day-to-day operations, sales, and marketing. As a “culinary guru,” Wright is well

known for the many platforms and brands he has built for the food service industry. For close to 25

years he led development efforts at the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University as its

dean and senior vice president.
