In all procedures calibrated light meter for illumination checking is added in this Edt-4, and minimum intensity is 50 ft-candles given.8) VISUAL TUBE INSPECTIONA) In scope only drill pipe tube coverd in Edt-3 , where as in Edt-4 drill pipe & HWDP tube also covered.B) In Procedure & acceptance criteria(3.4.4.a) 80% of adjacent wall thickness for HWDP shall be cause for rejection , added in new edition.C) Tube crooked dimension does not given in Edt-3 , but in Edt-4 3 in overall length & 0.5 in first 5 mentioned . Straightened area 2ft either side MPI to be done in Edt-4.

9) ULTRASONIC WALL THICKNESS INSPECTION A) The field reference standard mentioned in Edt-3 is Steel , where as in Edt-4 is same acoustic properties. B) Thin and thick section values included in Table 3.6.1 & 3.6.2 in Edt-4.10) EMI (Electromagnetic Inspection) A) In Edt-3 EMI 1 , EMI 2 separate procedures given , where as in Edt-4 only EMI given which is similar to EMI 2.B) In Edt-3 standard pipe (holes) calibration not mentioned , but in Edt-4 drill hole standard shall be certified annually.C) In Edt-4 requirements for wall thickness equipment (3.7.6) wall monitoring equipment may be used after an agreement between the vendor & the customer mentioned.11) MPI SLIP/UPSET INSPECTIONA) In Scope (3.9.1) A.C field only mentioned in Edt-3 , But in Edt-4 A.C field or wet fluorescent magnetic particle technique with an D.C field.B) Area of inspection in box side 48 mentioned in Edt-3 , Where as in Edt-4 box side 48,then the are where the additional slip cuts are located ,including 6 on either side of the location shall also inspected.C) HWDP Centre Pad : In Edt-3 36 either side of centre upsets given. In Edt-4 12 either side of centre upsets mentioned.D) Minimum A.C yoke leg distance 2 mentioned in Edt-4,where as it is not given in Edt-3.E) 3.9.4.d in Edt-4 the intensity of ambient visible light measured at the inspection surface during wet fluorescent magnetic particle inspection shall not exceed 2 ft-candles required . 15) DIMENSIONAL 3 INSPECTIONA) Profile gage calibration ( Every 3 years) included in Edt-4.B) Pin length (3.14.4.i) in Edt-3 mentioned for drill collars , where as in Edt-4 it was included to HWDP (Tab-3.9.1).C) Shoulder flatness : it was covered in Edt-3 , where as in Edt-4 it was shifted to visual connection.D) In HDWP Center Upset : eccentric rejection (height difference 1/8 and above ) mentioned in Edt-3 , but in Edt-4 rejection criteria including Edt-3 with height of center upset is less than 1/8 also.In Edt-3 center pad OD values covered in table-3.9.1 , but in Edt-4 center pad OD values not given.E) Vam connections procedure included in Edt-4.

16) BLACK LIGHT CONNECTION INSPECTIONA) SCOPE (3.15.1) : In Edt-4 only connections black light covered , but in Edt-3 connections black light and also heat checking on box tool joints using black light technique or the dry magnetic particle technique covered.But in Edt-4 heat checking (3.8) separate procedure given. 22) SHOP INSPECTION OF FISHING TOOLS In Edt-4 fishing tools that consists of single piece no component pieces (Except weld section) like wash pipe , junk mills etc covered in VOL-3 . Fishing tools that are two or more components or sub-tools like over shots , spear pack-off etc are covered in VOL-4.

23) SHOP REPAIR & GAGING OF RSCIn Edt-3 API spec 7 mentioned , where as in Edt-4 API 7-2 given Inspection & gaging of refaced connections procedure included in Edt-4 (3.33.6)

24) DEMAGNETIZATIONA) New procedure added in Edt-4. Residual field should not exceed 3 Gs any where in the piece .Residual field up to 10 Gs my be acceptable after an agreement between the vendor and the customer.

25) POST INSPECTION MARKINGS OF DRILL STEM COMPONENTS A) New procedure added in Edt-4.B) Pipe classification bands distance changed to 18 in Edt-4 , where as in Edt-3 it is 36.
