The Belgrade Chamber is part of the Gallatin Val- ley Tournament Committee (GVTC), a joint committee of the Belgrade and Bozeman chambers. The GVTC raises money to help bring high school sport- ing events to the area. The facility hosting the event does not keep the gate money. That money is distributed by the Montana High School Association (MHSA) to participating teams to help with travel, lodging, and meal ex- penses. In honor of Presidents’ Day:

Never ask anyone over 70 how they feel. They'll tell you.

George H. W. Bush (1924- ); 41st President (1989-1993)

Unless both sides win, no agreement can be permanent.

Jimmy Carter (1924- ); 39th President (1977-1981)

Officeholders are the agents of the people, not their

masters.

Grover Cleveland (1837-1908);

22nd and 24th President (1885-1889 and 1893-1897)

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to

speak out and remove all doubt.

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865); 16th President (1861-1865)

Thomas Jefferson once said, “We should never judge a

president by his age, only by his works.” And ever

since he told me that, I stopped worrying.

Belgrade High Sports for January (Home Events Only)

Beginning in February, Career Transi-tions, Inc., will offer “Ready-2-Work” classes through their Community Educa-tion program. This Ready-2-Work pro-gram is supported by Belgrade School District 44.

Career Transitions merged with READI Workforce Training and now offers a variety of classes that ad-dress job needs in the community. One-on-one train-ing and individualized instruction are the corner-stones of their success. Some classes are offered week-ly and others are on-demand. Career Transitions pro-vides training in workplace readiness, customer ser-vice, computer literacy, Commercial Driver’s License certification, welding, automotive diagnostics, and HiSET (GED) preparation among others. The goal is to provide the skills necessary to become optimally employable. Some classes lead to certification in a specialized field, providing the student with preferred credentials.

Teachers are trained experts in their fields and have knowledge of the current job market and how to con-nect skills with acquiring employment. They are cho-sen for their knowledge, ability to encourage students, and enthusiasm for the program.

Students and employers are invited to request new classes that would improve job skills and advance-

ment. Career Transitions’ Community Education builds upon existing programs and adds new classes upon demand.

For in-depth class descriptions, check out “Learning Center” on www.careertransitions.com. For a current class schedule and registration fees, e-mail ellen @careertransitions.com or call 406-388-6701, ext.110.

The Belgrade Chamber of Commerce is a very active Chamber for the size of our membership and community. When I compare our activities with those of my colleagues in similar communities, it makes me very proud of our accomplishments and the many benefits we offer our members. Let’s talk about our biggest benefit: our website!

The big question is, “Are you taking full advantage of the benefits our website offers your business through your membership in the Belgrade Chamber?”

Since switching to ChamberMaster software, we have been able to offer really great opportunities for our members to expose their business to more people. Have you ever gone to the Belgrade Chamber website and looked at your listing on our directory? Did you know that you can update and make changes to that listing? Did you know that for $19 a month you can have an enhanced listing that allows you to add your logo, pictures, and an expanded description of your business? While you are on the site, click on other businesses and look at their enhanced listings (Collision Center is a good example). It can literally be a mini website for those smaller businesses who can’t afford their own websites.

Besides your listing, you can also offer a “Hot Deal” to your fellow Chamber members as well as the public. It can be a coupon, a weekly special, or merely an announcement. We send out the list of “Hot Deals” every Monday. You can also post Job Openings. It really is easy to do, but if you are having trouble or need help, stop by the office on Monday or Wednesday and Kim Adams, our Tech staff member, can walk you through it.

We are working very hard to make the public aware of our website and to encourage them to use our community calendar for events and announcements. Each time they click on our website, the opportunity for them to go to our membership directory increases, thus resulting in more exposure for you. Tell your employees about our website, so they can spread the word to customers! It is the fastest way to make people aware of it. So shout it to the world, www.belgradechamber.org!
