    Bison Mows Deacons Lawn

Now That Is A Strange Sight to Behold!by Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister

    Join us for

Summer Sunday School for AdultsSunday mornings at 10 in the Chapel

July 25thJerry Black presents The Story of a Madman (mark 5

20, the maniac who becomes a missionary).

August 1Chris Shorow will trace the story of faith throughout

scripture. The narrative in our Bible shows how the people of faith

were alternately faithful and unfaithful throughout their history. H

have we changed? Is this our story as well?

August 8Diane Ball presents The Story of Songs. Diane will

sing and tell the story of many songs of faith through the years.

August 15Special GuestJahruba. As a finale to the summer children, youth and adults will join together in Fellowship

Hall for a drumming circle with Jahruba! This gifted storyteller and drummer will draw us all in with wise stories and rhthym

With audience articipation, he will lead us in drumming and folk stories that touch the heart. He will join us in our 9 and 11

worship services as well. What a wonderful way to wrap up our summer of learning!

In case you havent seen it, there is a wonderful video on the Oklahoma City Thunders website.

own David Smith, moderator of the deacons, won the Clean Air Contest and its grand prize of a

less electric lawn mower. David will now be environmentally friendly as he cuts his grass. Congrlations, David.

The amazing thing in all of this was the delivery of the mower. Rumble the Bison, OKCs

mascot, and the reigning NBA Mascot of the Year, came to personally give the mower to David.

then he started to mow Davids lawn. Not too impressed? You should be. It was nightmarish ho

that day. A day when I dont even want to be mowing in shorts and a T-shirt. But Rumble, or w

ever is brave enough to wear that costume, was sporting an outfit that would make you sweat on a snowy day. Wearing a

costume in near 100 degree weather qualifies you, at least in my book, for the funny farm.

The video showed the job that Rumble did on Davids lawn. It was not pretty. I suppose its very difficult to do a g

job mowing when you cant see very well out of your costume and the heat is beginning to make your head spin. But he g

    a try.

I thought it was ironic that Rumble came to serve David. After all, as moderator of our deacons, David knows what

means to serve; he does it well and he does it often. The term diakonos means to serve. We are all called to be servants oanother, just as Jesus came serving us. To be honest, in this heat, I would let Rumble mow my yard any day of the week. B

I thought it was a good reminder to see Rumble reaching out to serve. Perhaps in the midst of this heat, it is an especially g

time to remember our call to service.

Congratulations on your win, David. And I hope the rest of us can learn a lesson from a crazy bison.
