Chairman’s Message

Tr. Ameet MirpuriChairman, 2011-12

Being Chairman really makes you think... Did I do this right, Did I get it wrong, did this guy

get annoyed, did I hurt anyone's feelings!!!

The last 6 months have been 6 months of learning to say the least...

The Area AGM... A milestone in my tabling career that gave me such a high but yet kept me

grounded! Our table and the 41’ers came together to dole out a sparkling performance which

most will remember for a long time to come... And boy did we have fun doing it... My feet are still

tapping from those 3 weeks of dance practice at my home!

The socials we've had... Superb themes, well executed, hip n happening and still the same

warmth from the hosts as always! The fellowships have been innovative, almost non-stop and

bang-on!

The Community service work we've done, a project seen to it's befitting end, a new and

exciting project on the anvil... Gratifying!

The Anoop Reddy certificate for national best floor tabler... Walking down that aisle at the

national AGM with my jewel on is a moment I will never forget!

All other facets these last 6 months we've been striving to give back everything we've got

from the Round Table ! Probably the greatest thing I've learnt is one may be a leader but all tablers

are leaders in their own respect so giving each tabler the freedom to fly has definitely been my

greatest learning as a Chairman...

It's now I realise that all I had to think was... Is it the RIGHT thing to do.... Yes ? Then Do it...

And all is well !!! ;)

Tr. Ameet Mirpuri,CHAIRMAN,Vizag Round Table 77.

Sexy Santa Party

24th Dec - Grand Finale. But with Tr. Ameet around - nothing can be simple and straight

(Hello but he is straight....I guess). There were 2 venues for the party. First - Everyone gathered at

the Coconut Groove (Outdoor Venue) to warm up.

When the spirits were high and the mood was set to hit the dance floor, we all moved into

DUSK. DUSK is the brain child of Tr. Ameet. From the design, Décor, lighting even the Name is by

Ameet. One venue at Vizag, where you can party on ANY THEME. To further add the ambiance for

the theme there was a Christmas tree, the waiters had the Christmas hats on and there was a

Guitarist playing the Christmas Carol at the Entry.

The Menu also complimented the theme. It was exclusively designed for the theme with

Mexican pizza, Mexican fried rice, Tortillas, Nachos, Full roasted turkey, Enchiladas, Christmas cake

and ice-cream, Cookies, Beans, Jalapeño corn cakes, Avocado dip, Tacos, Pibli pollo ... Chicken with

orange and chilli Dessert ... Chilli chocolate…

The Hosts performed in Harmony a Dance on "KOLAVARI". Beautifully choreographed and

synchronized. The Audience was only saying "What's this Kolavari".

Ameet played the Banta (Not Santa). He made the ladies play some games in which they

had to be blind folded and had to use mouth to blow and hold. The area was very cornered by the

ladies so we guys did n’t get to see eggjactly what was happening. Moreover with booze around

most the guys were hardly bothered.

This was a Sequel as the same themed National Level Social was hosted by VRT-77 two

years ago.

I as in charge of twinkler's of VRT-77 find this date (24th of Dec 2011) asone of the most memorable day in my tabling career. For that 1st of all need tothank my wife Lakshmi who took the pains in calling parents of all our twinkler's in making sure that kidsgot what they liked as a Christmas gift from our Santa(Tr.Rajesh). That makes me thank Tr.Rajesh whoinstantly agree to be our Santa. And believe me it was a great experience driving Santa around the city(of course my car getting all the attention at traffic signals).

But the recognition must go to Tr.Umesh (chief architect) who came up with this brilliant idea ofgiving gifts to our Twinkler's and also to all my fellow tabler's for agreeing and giving funds without anysecond thoughts. Also I would like to thank Tr.Sandeep Chowdary for giving us company during the entirejourney (while distributing the gifts)

My Memory lane...

We started our priceless journey (as this experience cannot be bought with cash or card) at 4pmfrom my house. Tr.Rajesh got dressed as Santa at my home. The fun of Santa started even before itstarted. All the kids in my apartment who were playing in the car parking were dumb found looking at ourSanta.

Tr.Umesh & Tr.Rajesh started from my home & went to our eldest Twinkler (Hamza). To our surprise, the watchman informed us that he was not there & that kind of was a bad start. But to keep our spritsalive I did not show that disappointment. We went ahead & left the gift to his home (Later got a call thathe was thrilled).

Second stop was at Tr.Sandy Chow is house. There we had a bonus of giving gifts to His sister'skids also. But guys believe me the look on Chota Dhruv's face was so terrific, (when the gift was give tohis elder brother (Hardik) and not him.) But he was relaxed once we told him that the packet has gifts forboth of them.

Third stop was at our Ex. Area Chairman's (Tr.Deepak) mother in laws home. Tw Ganeesa is oursecond youngest. She on looking at our Santa twisted herself around the curtains & refused to let go ofthem even when Sukku(her mom) tried to bring them out. But finally when Santa removed the mask onlythen she was exited & took the gift.

On the way we went to Tr.Shravan's & Diiwakar's apartment complex. But the lady who openedthe door for us got the shock of her life when she saw Santa. She left the door open and ran into thekitchen screaming. But the kids were shouting with excitement on seeing Santa.

Our laughter riot started from here. Next stop was at Spl Invitee Hari's house. We were treatedwith some extraordinary snacks & coffee. His Kids (Sumedh & Sudheeksha) were spontaneous & exicted.

As Tr. Dharmaraju Kiran unveiled his new home to all the Tablers & Ladies, "YENNA RASCALA" was

truly one of the most superhit Socials till date this year - Kiran & Manjee pulled out all the stops to give

all of us a great time. The South Indian Version of Nach Baliye was a big hit and mostly everyone prepared

well to be there. The Chairman gave away the 1st prize to Mrs.Lakshmi W/o.Tr.Dr.Rakesh G for the beautiful

dance. The prize was an astounding FREE registration for the RTI, NAGM in Jan 2012 for the lady. The food

laid out was impeccable and many raunchy memories were made that day.

23rd July 2011, a day etched in green at Vizag round table-77 for itwas our first GO GREEN event of the year.

Vizag round table 77 along with the Presidential schools run by our own HT Sq.leg.D.S.Anandorganized awareness cum art competition on going green.

It was heartening to see about a 50 tiny tots along with their moms in all enthusiasm to participatein this event.

Presidential schools and VRT-77 organized this event to stress on the fact that nurturing greenpractices and inculcating a sense of social responsibility and creating awareness to kids at a tender agegoes a long way in "Nurturing Nature". And it's a child's mother who plays an important role in nurturingsuch practices. So what better way than to have the mom and her kid as a team to put their thoughts inart to express their green thoughts!!!

Present at the occasion were the chairman of VRT-77, Tr.Ameet Mirpuri, the National committeemember for Go Green Tr.Dr.Y.Raghu and yours truly along with our HT Sq.leg.D.S.Anand. We all spoke onthis occasion and conveyed the initiatives being taken by RTI on this facet. A small video presentationwas also made by Tr.Dr.Raghu on the maladies being faced by nature due to various human activities andhow we can overcome the same. The messages were well appreciated by all the parents and teacherspresent on the occasion.

After an hour of exciting drawing and painting by the mom and kid duos, it was finally the time topick up the best three drawings/paintings. One kid, Aryamaan stood out for the fact that he came alonewithout his mom and did a fabulous drawing of a tree crying and asking us to save it from being cut down.He was given a special "ROUND TABLE INDIA Go Green choice award" sponsored by yours truly. Topthree drawings were then given away prizes.

A touching and a well thought of token was, every parent, kid and guests were seen off by givingaway a sapling to be planted at their homes as a parting gift. This event was well covered by localelectronic and print media. The chairman spoke to the media people and appraised them about thevarious activities that are being taken up by RTI and especially the Go Green initiative. News articleswere carried in papers like the Hindu, Eenadu, and Surya etc and covered in the electronic media by ABN-Andhra jyothi.

It had been a hectic Sunday. I didn't get to laze around till noon. In fact, was up at 5am after only3 hours after the time I hit the sack. And next thing you know Tr Sandeep Chitra (RT77) and I were tryingto get Tr Ameet's attention (see pic below of Tr Sandeep climbing into Ameet's terrace) so we can get onthe road to Paderu, a beautiful village nestled in the hills about 115 clicks from Visakhapatnam..

The occasion - being the Inauguration of 5 new classrooms at Vijnana Bharati School. It was abeautiful day, it became better when a good 35-40 of us tablers from VRT77, VVRT 213 and the newinaugurated VKRT, including ladies, twinklers and HT Harikrishna (popularly known as Anna) left for Paderufrom Vizag in a long caravan of cars.. And bikes!?!? It was a great day for a biker, I'm sure Tr Naveen (RT-077) & Tr Srikanth (RT-213) could do a better job telling you that story..

After filling ourselves with hot breakfast (see pic above, doing what we do best - our breakfaststop), with Tr Aanand (RT-77) being our navigator, and Tr Samir (RT-77) being the last car in the caravan,we made our way through beautiful hills, dangerous turns and nature that's unparallel to in this area..

We stopped for few pictures on our way up.. It was so serene, beautiful and cold(er), that we allforgot that most of had little or no sleep the night before; ask Area Chairman Tr Deepak (RT77) who flewin from Hyderabad and drove straight to Paderu from the airport or Tr Ameet who was partying till 4am.That bike you are seeing below in the corner is that of Tr Naveen, and Tr Aanand gave us a big scare whenhe started off with Tr Naveen sitting behind him, but that was the problem that Tr Naveen who was a"tad" heavier than Tr Aanand was in the back seat who made the bike off balance.. but we all got a goodlaugh out of it, so it's all good..

We made it to Paderu in good time. First stop was the hostel for students from the tribal areas ofthe region, who were given free room & board and free education by the school. We witnessed as theyrecited parts of Bhagwad Gita from memory, we were amazed at their ability to memorize the toughSanskrit slokas and recite them in perfect co-ordination. But we didn't know that there was a lot more instore for us at the school.

The left side of the photo you see above is the new block that is being built and soon we shouldsee the 1st also complete with new classrooms for the kids. With the stage set and dignitaries on thedias, we were ready for the inauguration.

It gave me a great sense of pride being part of the Round Table India movement, I'm sure tablersof VRT-77 must be ecstatic to see their hardwork of many years finally take shape.. After all, the servicethrough fellowship motto is what we all are here for…

The view from the school campus is depicted above and the colorful cultural programs that wereperformed by these kids. We also witnessed kids showing their talent in aerobics, martial arts, archeryetc. Talk about a full education! The program concluded and we were ready for lunch. And the lunch wassomething! What a spread, and all of it home cooked.. Overjoyed and full, we then took to greenerpastures for VRT-77's last meeting of the year (and probably the best).

Tr Aanand (RT-77) chaired the meeting for sometime, a nice gesture from tablers of VRT-77 for theretiring tabler. And Tr Samir (RT77) raked in a lot of moolah being the seargent… Ouch! This was the bestmeeting I've attended.. We had rounds of mango, pineapple going around for "enders" (since this wasafter lunch) and the tablers drinking out of the sole bottle of Vodka remaining (Thanks to Tr Rajesh and TrNaveen who were playing, Who wants to be a "lazy"nionare?)

Even though it was tough to say bye to the gorgeous surroundings, we had to go back to Vizag..And on we went, thinking of what a nice day it had been.. Suddenly we heard a lot of loud music andsaw parked cars on the road, and lo behold, it was Tr Kiran (RT-77) showing off his talent on the karaokesystem (no wonder it was loud).. we found out that party abhi baaki hai…

As the tablers and families enjoyed themselves, Tr Sandeep Chitra and I head on to Vizag, tocatch up on pending sleep…

But really, what a day!! Congrats to VRT-77! And 3 cheers to Tr Aanand and gang..

This year the theme for the RTI week at Vizag Round Table 77 is "COLOURS OF LIFE". We havestarted off the RTI week with each colour of the rainbow observed on one day and do things which thatcolour signifies.

Colour is a powerful and important communication tool, and it is tied to religious, cultural, politicaland social influences. By stopping to consider what each colour represents and is linked to in the 'realworld' we can design decisions that ensure we appeal to our target audience.

If you notice the logo which have specially created for this event, there is an eighth colour, which iswhite and for us white is "TIME". Time is what we all at VRT:77 intended to give this RTI week. And yes, wedid spend time at each and every community service we had attended like the book reading / story tellingsession, feeding the special children with our own hands, entertaining the special children with our ownresources, spending times with the inmates of the old age home and destitute homes, spending time inconducting dental and BMD camps.

The attendance by tablers, ladies and twinklers at each and every event was a real great inspirationfor everyone and that proved be a great motivating factor to each one of us to take out time from our busyschedules to attened these events.

Each and every facet of tabling was covered in these seven days, fellowship and community serviceas the forerunners, we had our share of publicity, HRD/ LAPD, twinklers activities, activities for the 41ers,Go green etc. Even before the RTI week took off, we had huge publicity in the form of press releases in morethan 10 newspapers about the plans for the RTI week.

With almost 3.25 lakh of rupees spent this RTI week on various community service activities andmost importantly the time spent by each and every tabler and lady, it had been a gratifying experience to allof us at VRT:77. In the course of this one week, 25 cleft lip and palate surgeries were performed onunderprivileged kids under the banner of our pet project FIRST SMILE. Other major community servicesincluded donation of group HAS machine along with wheel chairs and walking aids at the RCD hospital, installation of the water purifying system at the Missionaries of charity and donating Braille slates at theMadhurawada blind school.

Once done with their lunch, 40 of these kids were in for a pleasant surprise!!! Tablers, ladies andtwinklers of VRT:77 put up a special show entertaing them with dance and music and the smiles we got tosee on these kids cannot be explained….really priceless!!!. The kids were then encouraged to come up onthe stage and dance with us…and boy!!!...you should see the enthusiasm with which they came up andjoined all of us dancing. Most of us were left with tears twirling in our seeing the kids enjoying to the core. This will be the most special service of this entire RTI week for all of us VRT:77 and hoping that it will be agood memory for most of these special kids for a long time.

National Fellowship's Day Jointly by 77, 213 & 225 at The Park. A mega social was hosted by 5

Tablers from the 3 tables. Tr. Deepak and Sq. Leg. D.S. Anand hosted this social on behalf of 77. This

social started at 5 pm with Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament where all the 4 tables of Vizag were divided

into 6 teams even included ladies. After the Cricket Tournament the focus shifted on to the dance floor.

Many tablers including our Chairman said the next day that they saw people jogging on the roads at 5 am

when they were leaving to home.

National Fellowship Day

55 plus heads turned up to celebrate one of the most wonderful events of the year - our 77 charter

day! It was a Beach Picnic at a Beach House near Totalakonda. People had Beer like Guzzlers. Tr. Ramayya

had planned the whole setup and made all the Arrangements. This was a Potluck fellowship, wherein

everyone brought in something to eat or drink. The Sq. Legs were invited and their attendance was

remarkable. The kids had a ball of a time playing cricket in the empty pool. They also made Sand Castles.

The Ladies did what they were best at - Gossiping.

16

Looking back at the path I took in my journey in this wonderful movement called tabling, I realized

that several of my inhibitions regarding taking up a position of responsibility have been done with. I wasn't

steadfast enough. At the very beginning, I didn't want to get involved and only did so at the encouragement

of fellow tablers. Many times I wanted to just sit and enjoy the movement and then over time I realised

that the actual joy comes with giving to the movement in whatever way I can.

Living in the cocoon of my profession, where leadership is given the least importance and it comes

only second to Teamwork I never thought myself as a man for a responsible position, but one among the

team players. It is very easy for me to understand everybody's ideas and tolerate various opinions which

come naturally to me because of my profession but at the same time, I've unconsciously developed an

attitude not to gain power with which comes great responsibility. I always thought that with responsibility

my creativity and productivity would get hampered.

But, taking up responsibility in tabling albeit reluctantly, shackled my cocooned thoughts.

In the very first year of my tabling which lasted only for 6 months, the then chairman Tr.Deepak

Menda asked me to be the co-convener for extension and those days VRT-77 was in the process of forming

the ladies circle and a new table in Vizag. I did not know the intricacies of tabling leave alone extension but,

over the time with the contact meets happening, I realised that I was good at organizing things,

communicating with total strangers and convincing people which hitherto I thought I was bad at. It is a

different thing that the new table was not formed that year but the experience I gained was immense.

The following year Tr.Kiran took over the mantle of the chairmanship at VRT-77 and he came to me

and requested me to be his fellowship convener. I laughed my guts out and thought he was mad. I always

thought myself to be one of that community services and HRD type of guys and fellowship was not my

forte. But then, yes I had to reluctantly accept it at the behest of some senior tablers. Yes, I can do it is what

I thought once the days started rolling by and I tried to improvise on my ideas about fellowship. Did I

succeed as a fellowship convener? See the bonding in the table today and it speaks for itself.

Next year around, with my confidence in myself and my capabilities on the surge, I took up the post

of the secretary of VRT-77. This time around unlike my previous convener ships I did have an agenda on my

mind as to what to do with this post and how best I can give to the table. I wanted to showcase each and

every detail of what VRT-77 does to the whole of the tabling fraternity and yes I could do it once again. That

year VRT-77 was on a high with all minutes, reports and articles going out meticulously and the awards at

the area and national level spoke for the table's activities and yours truly was the best secretary of area 9

and RTI.

My Tryst with Leadership!!!

17

Last year, Tr.Deepak from my own table who took over as the chairman of the vibrant area 9 asked

what I wanted to do on the area board, i chose to be editor of the area magazine, he refused!!! And

instead asked me to be his area fellowship convener and I was reluctant but then he encouraged me and

gave me a good partner in crime Tr.Sajja Ravindra and together we could pull out another fabulous year

of fellowship at area 9.

And now, this year I have been appointed by the president of RTI as the national committee

member for Go Green and hopefully take up as the AST of area 9.

Another flip and encouragement I had received in this journey so far was thanks to Tr. Gautam

Rao who organized a one to one meet with one of the youngest national president of RTI Tr.Himanshu

Gupta when I had travelled to Hyderabad for the 100th meeting of HDRT 189. Gautam arranged for an

informal meet with Himanshu with a few young tablers at his home. The interaction was a real good one

in terms of sharing experience with each other. What Himanshu said really struck a chord in my mind. He

said "Don't work your way for a particular post, see what work you can do with that post and then work

towards it".

The following day, we had a session of LAPD with Tr.Vineet Parikh and what I learnt from there was

that there is a leadership quality in everyone and what you need to do is to have the right attitude and

cultivate the leader in you.

In the step by step process of pulling out the roots of my negative attitude towards responsibility,

I have a feeling of a sense of pride and renewed confidence in my inner heart. I no longer have that

thought of backing out from the position of responsibility and feel I have become more determined to

participate in various tabling related works.

To sum up it all, for me tabling has done a great deal in terms of giving me the confidence in my

leadership abilities which my medical school did not teach me. It is helping me immensely both in my

professional and personal life. And any ordinary person can take up a position of responsibility with a

positive attitude and that we can give our best with this simple thing in our mind, "Don't work your way

to a post, see what work you can do with that post and then work towards it".

A note from the Editor !!!

Dear Fellow Tablers,

In my short and sweet fledgling career in Tabling (this being my secondyear really), I have been fortunate enough to witness varied aspects that go with Tabling. It really is amonumental movement which urges us to discover facets of ourselves that we never thought or knewexisted within us. For some of us, am sure, it must have been akin to rediscovering our true selves.

However, having had the opportunity to know about some other Tables in our vibrant Area 9, I realizedthat I have been not only fortunate, but also blessed to be a part of VRT 77. One must be extremely luckyto be a part of a Table as Colorful, as Energetic, as Warm, as Vibrant, as Involved, as Creative, asInnovative, as Gutsy, as Friendly, as Productive, as Delightful, as Beautiful, as Musical, ……..I couldactually go on and on.

At the beginning of the Tabling year, Chairman Tr. Ameet Mirpuri, enquired whether I would love to takeup the responsibility of being the Editor for “Pearl”. This was something new for me, hence I was unsure. However, Ameet seemed very sure and here I am. Having been bestowed with the responsibility, Istarted to wonder how I could do justice to my role as the Editor. I wanted “Pearl” to reflect what VRT 77is all about. I wanted it to be an easy READ, informative, colorful, inducing a few laughs, and alsoproviding an insight into many of our fellow Tablers. As the issues keep rolling out, I would endeavour toprovide all you lovely people a Magazine that would provide you with an interesting READ that wouldkeep you hungry for more.

As we step into a New Year…a New Beginning, I wish all in the Tabling fraternity a great 2012.

Little Sally led off: "I sold girl scout cookies and Imade $30," s he said proudly, "My sales approach was to appealto the customer's civil spirit and I credit that approach for myobvious success . " "Very good," said the teacher .

Little Mary was next: "I sold magazines," she said, "Imade $45 and I explained to everyone that magazines wouldkeep them up on current events . " "Very good, Mary" said theteacher

Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn . The teacherheld her breath . . . Little Johnny walked to the front of theclassroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher'sdesk . "$2,467," he said . "$2,467!" cried the teacher, "What inthe world were you selling?"

"Toothbrushes," said Little Johnny.

"Toothbrushes!" echoed the teacher, "How could you possiblysell enough tooth brushes to make that much money?"

"I found the busiest corner in town," said Little Johnny. "I set up a Dip & Chip stand and gave everybody who walkedby a free sample . " They all said the same thing, "Hey, thistastes like dog crap!" Then I would say, "It is dog crap. Wanna'buy a toothbrush?" "I used the Obama approach of giving yousomething shitty for free, and then making you pay to get thetaste out of your mouth"

A VERY SUCCESSFUL ATTORNEY.....

A very successful attorney parked his brand new Lexus in frontof his office, ready to show it off to his colleagues. As he wasgetting out, a truck came along too closely and completelytore off the driver's door.

Fortunately, a cop in a police car was close enough to see theaccident and pulled up behind the Lexus with his lightsflashing.

Before the cop had a chance to ask any questions, the attorneystarted screaming hysterically about how his Lexus, which hehad just purchased the day before, was completely ruinedand would never be the same, no matter how any car bodyshop tried to make it new again.

After the lawyer finally wound down from his rant, the copshook his head in disbelief. "I can't believe how materialisticyou lawyers are," he said. "You are so focused on yourpossessions that you neglect the most important things inlife."

"How can you say such a thing?" asked the lawyer.

The cop replied, "Don't you even realize that your left arm ismissing? It was severed when the truck hit you!"

"OH, MY GOD!!!" screamed the lawyer.
