Wholeness in our Families

Wholeness in families can be attained by mutual trust, co operation and spending timetogether i.e. family time. At the beginning of each month, put some family time on

the calendar. Make it a priority, and try to keep it as faithfully as a professional obligation(except for real emergencies). Do special things with the family. Spend time with eachchild individually, when possible. Try for one meal a day when everyone is together. Makemeals an open, comfortable sharing time. Consider “family meetings” to share joys andconcerns, and to make plans with shared leadership. Pray together as a family. Spend timewith teenagers especially, keeping lines of communication open.

Having family friends who can be trusted and who gives unconditional support everytime boosts the morale of children.” It takes a village to raise a child,” the saying goes. The more adult support children experience, the healthier and stronger they are. Many ofyou live many miles from your extended family. Close friendships with other families canhelp fill that gap and give support. Young children will take an instant like or dislike tocertain people for unknown reasons. Some people will be offended if they are not one ofthe chosen.

Children have many different temperaments. Not everyone is as understanding of shyor withdrawn children, or colicky infants. Do not get into the habit of apologizing for yourchild. If they have done wrong an apology is needed, but don’t apologize for theirtemperament. Be an advocate for your child. Do not be afraid to claim your parentalauthority. If someone really pushes their advice or attention on you or your child, find away to politely ask them to stop. Always remember that you are your child’s best and truestadvocate.

Older children, as everyone else in the family, face joys and struggles in the family.Adolescence is a normal time of restlessness. Anna Freud writes, “It is normal for anadolescent to behave for a considerable length of time in an inconsistent and unpredictablemanner; to fight his impulses and to accept then; to ward them off successfully and to beoverrun by them; to love his parents and to hate them; to revolt against them and to bedependent on them; to be deeply ashamed to acknowledge his mother before others and, unexpectedly, to desire heart-to-heart talks with her; to thrive on imitation of andidentification with others while searching unceasingly for his own identity; to be moreidealistic, artistic, generous and unselfish than he will ever be again, but also the opposite:centered, egoistic, calculating.”

Provide a family room separate from the living room so that entertaining can takeplace, without interfering with the needs and daily activities of other family members. These tips can be of some help for all the members concerned especially the childrenregardless of age to keep the wholeness of family with all its fragrance and taste.

Spiritual food from Zephaniah

You cannot have one without the other any more than youcan have a heaven without a hell. Sin brings wrath and

judgment. It cannot be overlooked; so God judges it. Butbecause He is a God of love as well as a God of justice, Hejudged sin in the sacrifice of His Son and extents His love to allwho believe in Him. Those who believe are passed from deathto life, and there is therefore no condemnation to those who arein Christ Jesus. To reject Christ means to die in sin, to die withthe judgment and wrath of God abiding in the sinner. To escapeGod’s wrath, we need to go to Christ.

To whom will you run for help (Is. 10:3)?

This is addressed to those who know not God, to those whoknow not our Lord Jesus Christ. What multitudes there are ofsuch! Let us ask, ‘Am I one of them? Have I ran for refuge tolay hold on the hope set before me in the Gospel? Is Christ thehope of glory formed in my heart? Is God my Friend, my Father, and my Joy?’ If not, when trouble comes and overwhelms you, when Satan harasses you, when conscience accuses you, whenthe world frowns upon you, when sickness seizes you, whendeath scares you in the face, to whom will you run for help?Who can support you in trouble? Who can deliver you fromGod’s wrath or from Satan? Who can calm and pacify a guiltyconscience? Who can comfort you when the world frowns?Who can give you patience when suffering from disease? Whocan raise you above the fears of death or entitle you to a gloriousimmortality? He who cannot do these things for you now cannotdo them for you then. To whom then will you run? Creaturesare vain, they cannot help you. God alone can, and if you willrun to him now, it will be well with your soul, for He invitesyou and promises to receive you. ‘Him that cometh to I will inno wise cast out’. When you come He delivers you from thewrath that now abides upon you and will deliver you from thewrath to come.

The wrath and loveof God are inseparable

Dr. Paulson Pulikottil

The Psalmist said, “If I had spoken out like that I would have betrayedyour children” (Psalms 73:15). This is a confession of a man who

reflected on life’s realities and had drawn his own conclusions. He realizedthat some of his conclusions would have destroyed an entire generation ofpeople. The psalmist was pondering on the question of why the wickedpeople prosper while people like him who lead honest life do not fare verywell in life. This has led him to conclude that his upright life is a waste oftime; he should have tried to be rich and not bothered about being a goodperson. He said, “Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washedmy hands in innocence. All day long I have been afflicted, and everymorning brings new punishments” (Psalms 73:14). However, later on hetook his questions to God and received an entirely new perspective onlife. He realized that the prosperity and comforts of the wicked are notpermanent. He came to know that paucity with deep devotion to God ismore desirable than godless prosperity (Psalms 73:28). This relationshipwith God is what he would long for than wealth (Psalms 73:25). Now,having received a new perspective on life he regrets that he harbouredwrong thoughts. He also realizes that his wrong conclusions about lifewould have misguided a generation. In short, he realizes the potentialdanger of our human reflections on life that we often jump to disregardinga divine perspective. Human beings are endowed with the power to reason;however, mere human reasoning may not help. We need to know the limitsof reason and admit that there is a higher wisdom available with God,which is infallible. The purpose of human reasoning is to find out thatdivine perspective on life’s issues. However, if we fail to do so we betrayour own generation and the generations to come.

Presence of God“My presence shall go with thee and I will give thee rest.” Exodus 33:14

The awareness about the presence of Almighty God makes it easy to pray and tohave faith. But at the same time, His Presence should not be taken lightly andcarelessly or even taken for granted. We cannot successfully carry on human andDivine communication at the same time. That is the reason why Jesus taught to gointo their closet, make fast the door and then to pray to their heavenly Father ‘whoseeth in secret.’

Jesus reminded His disciples of the hypocritical Pharisees who prayed on thestreet corners to be seen of men. He warned disciples not to be like them. InMatthew 6:56, we read that particular admonition. As true prayer is acommunication with the Supreme Being - the Father God - we enter into thepresence of God in prayer.

Actually, in prayer we are approaching the creator, the one who is worthy ofabsolute reverence and respect. In Ecclesiastes 5:2, we read: “let not thine heart behasty to utter anything before God, for God is in heaven, and thou upon the earth:therefore let thy words be few.”

Most of us know that God is in heaven, but the secret of prayer is to realize thatHe is also in the very same room where we pray. It is the realization of His presencethat makes prayer powerful and meaningful. But it also warms us not to be carelessin our conversation with Him. We are cautioned against vain repetitions as theheathen do, while praying. When the Lord refused to continue with the children ofIsrael on their journey to Canaan, Moses pleaded: ‘If thy presence go not with me,carry us not up hence’ (Exodus 33:15).

So the presence of God is all the more important than anything else. We needHis assurance: “My presence shall go with thee.” When we really recognize and feelthe presence of God, then we find that prayer no longer is a chore, but a supremedelight…

“Let us go over theother side”

Events that are associated with Jesus Christ and his disciples were interestingas well as inspiring. One day evening, Jesus with his disciples were

crossing the Galilean sea. It is Jesus who said to them “let us go over to theother side” (Mark 4:35). A furious storm came up, and the waves broke overthe boat, so that it was nearly drowned. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on acushion. The disciples were afraid and dismayed. They complained to himabout His lack of concern for their lives.

Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!”.Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He scolded them fortheir lack of faith. They were amazed and terrified and asked each other,“Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

There are a lot of spiritual lessons from this event. First of all, this eventproved beyond doubt that Jesus Christ is the master of nature. Secondly He isable to complete the task given to us. He will not forsake us in the midst ofdanger. God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble (Ps46:1). That he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completionuntil the day of Christ (Phil 1:6). Finally as we approach the evening of ourlife, the death instinct will increase in us. We have hope beyond the grave.Six feet of earth is not the end of our life. Jesus says “let us go over the otherside”.

The other side is eternity with Christ. For a disciple of Christ there is aland where joy shall never end. Just like Enoch let us walk with God havingan abundant life. With the fullness of God we will reach the glorious shorewhere our beloved Jesus Christ is waiting to receive us.

I praise God for His wonderful work and Hiswonderful guidance to hold a successful ‘One dayYouth Retreat’ on 19th September 2012, with the‘Theme’, ‘Salt & Light’ from Mathew 5:13-16.

Dear one and all in Christ, I am really so happyto share about the ‘Salt & Light’ youth retreatreport to you all. As I am sharing about this retreatmy heart is so much excited to praise our Lordand saviour Jesus Christ.

When I started to think about a youth retreat Imet with an accident and I lost 8000 rupees whichI had saved for this retreat, and it was given ascompensation to the injured person. Satan has triedin all the ways to stop this event. Our God is asovereign Lord who is able to make us reach ourdestination. I praise God for His faithfulness andmighty work in this event.

I started to work with 13 rupees of bankbalance. But God has provided me everythingwhich was required for this event. At the sametime I would like to extent my heart felt thanks toall the sponsors who had contributed theirtremendous support and help in all the ways.

Another thing is that we just planned only for200 people to attend, but God brought almost 350students and others about 50 members. Altogether

‘One Day Youth Retreat Warangalwe got nearly 400 as attendance on that day. Whenthe message was going on I was a little worriedabout the food because we just had prepared for200. I went to the vessel and took a little rice andprayed and God multiplied it as he did with 5loaves and 2 fishes. He has proved once againthat HE IS THE SAME YESTERDAY TODAYAND FOR EVER. Nothing is impossible withGod.

I really thank Rev. Dr. P.T. Varghese fromVijayawada who has brought the mighty anointedword for this youth event. God has used him forHis Glory and all the delegates were so muchblessed by his word. Also I am thankful to Rev.K. Kurian who led the retreat and shared aboutvision of ICPF and encouraged the students andthe youth leaders to join hand with ICPF ministryat Warangal and wherever they are. Few othersshared greeting namely G.J. Sudhakar (Retd DSP),Rev. Prabhakar B EBC church and few others-Bro. Emmanuel and Eliazer. I would like torequest you all to continue to pray for theWarrangal chapter and my family.
