Amelia Cranstoun Digi Pak Analysis Florence and the Machine Lungs’ (2009) by Florence and the Machine has an album which eludes a sense of the artists identity and the use of images and fonts show elemetns which I can relate to Lacey’s repertoire of elements. The fornt coverof the digi pak shows Florence welch standing artfully against a mossy wall with branches and blossoms, which gives the mise en scene a ‘make believe’ woodland feel. Her stance shows her with the arms limp, hung around her head and her sheer swooping sleeves add to create an almost storybook theme. She is shown wearing a pair of longs attached by a ribbon around her neck – this relates to the title of the album. Florences hair is also short and sweeped around her neck exposing her pale and pure skin. The hairis styled in an unconventional look which relates well to the bands indie rock genre of the album and opposes to most mainstream looks seen in other popular music. The CD art is a profile imagine of the front woman, posed in black and white. The singer is shown looking upwards with ther arms wrapped tightly around herself, suggsting a sense of insecurity and shyness. This links to the front covers theme of innocence and make believe and therefore suggests a theme of purity. As the album is named ‘Lungs’ and the singer is shown wearing a set of fake lungs it is obvious that a theme of iconography is used. This connects with thedigram of lungs on the back cover, appearing almost like an x-ray. The CD art however shows a pair of hands grasping what we can assume is a heart. This runs with the repeation of organs, infering a second theme of emotion and fragility. The hands are positioned around the heart in a firm and claw like grip. This relates to a possible inferance of heartbreak which may link to the track listings on the album. Tis creates a juxstaposition between romance and the biological and physical. The Digi pak shows a narrative as the running theme os of storybook fanatsy and youth. It entices the audience to purchase the cd as the forn cover and the title ‘Lungs’,

Florence and the Machine

‘Lungs’ (2009) by Florence and the Machine has an album which eludes a sense of the artists identity and the use of images and fonts show elemetns which I can relate to Lacey’s repertoire of elements.

This relates to a possible inferance of heartbreak which may link to the track listings on the album. Tis creates a juxstaposition between romance and the biological and physical.

The Digi pak shows a narrative as the running theme os of storybook fanatsy and youth. It entices the audience to purchase the cd as the forn cover and the title ‘Lungs’, intruiges a need for undertanding and a reason behind the artists story lke and coneptual narrative.
