Assignment specification:This coursework assignment is based on the SMARTS case study, available inWebLearn. You have the role of FROSTIE and SCIMITAR project manager,responsible for planning the installation and support of the FROSTIE andSCIMITAR systems. There are two stages:

preliminary plan (assignment 1)

final plan (assignment 2)In this coursework assignment (1), a report is required by the Steering Committee,entitled "FROSTIE and SCIMITAR: Preliminary Installation and Support Plan".This report is individual work and must be submitted as specified and by thedeadline. The report must be presented in 12pt font (Times New Roman/Arial) andmust be no more than 3 pages in length. Diagrams and/or tables may be used ifappropriate, but these must be within the page limit specified. There should be notitle page, table of contents or appendices for this report.

Please note the following: Specific guidance on report content and structure is provided below. Do not provide separate title or contents pages for this report; the report title should be

clearlyvisible at the top of the first page.

Your name and student ID must appear on every page of the report, e.g. in the pageheader or footer.

All section headings and sub-headings specified below must appear in the report.

The questions asked under each sub-heading below provide guidance in developing theappropriate content for each section. Interpret the questions and apply them to the case

study in order to develop suitable answers. The questions themselves should not appear in the report, nor should there be any

additional sections.

A references section is not required for this preliminary report.

For each section, marks will be awarded for statements which: answer the question(s) posed, arerelevant to the facts contained in the case study,

correspond to this assignment specification, and

form part of a coherent and consistent plan of action

Structure and content guidance:The report must include the following sections and sub-sections:

1. Introduction

1.1. Purpose of documentWhat is the purpose of this report? Note that this refers to the document, not the project as a whole.1.2. ScopeWhat is included in the plan? What is not included? (i.e. identify the 'boundaries' of the plan.) Stateany assumptions in this section.

2. Installation2.1. Deployment planWhat is the overall approach to the installation of the FROSTIE and SCIMITAR systems, i.e. howwill the system be deployed (or "rolled-out")? This may be "immediate cut-over/direct changeover","parallel running", "phased geographic", phased by function, "pilot" or a suitable combination ofapproaches. Provide an overview of how this approach will be put into use.

2.2. Data migrationWhat data is required in the new system? How will data be transferred from existing sources intothe new system? Is there any existing data not required by the new system?

2.3. TrainingWhich users will need training, and what sort of training do they need? When should training bearranged for users?

2.4. Business change issuesWhat are the key business issues that SMARTS will face during the installation of the FROSTIEand SCIMITAR systems?

3. Support3.1. Support needsWho will require support? Outline the group(s) of people who will have access to the support

service. What are the hours of service during which Help Desk support is provided?3.2. The Help DeskHow will the SMARTS support service operate? Provide a brief description of the proposed HelpDesk, including:

the intended support model under which the Help Desk will operate

where the Help Desk will be located, and how it will be staffed

3.3. Issue tracking and escalationWhat categories of support issue will the Help Desk recognise? How will records of issues reportedby users be maintained and updated? How and when will support issues be escalated to the nextlevel?

3.4. Support service levelsWhat service level targets are defined for each category of support issue?
