Open DayThe College Open Day was conducted
on Tuesday of this week and it was
tremendous to again see the high level
of interest in the school as demonstrated
by the number of people who attended.
More than 350 visitors were welcomed to
our campus with the potential students
ranging significantly in age. There is no
doubt that CBC Fremantle continues to
establish itself as a school of choice and
this is reflected in our waiting lists for
enrolment which are lengthening annually.
Many of the quality programmes and
facilities that we have at CBC were on
display this week but it was not these that
primarily attracted the attention or the
praise of the prospective parents who
undertook the tours. Their attention was
drawn more to the outstanding quality
of the students whom they encountered
at the school. The boys made a positive
impression upon our visitors whether
they were acting as tour guides, playing
in the band or involved in presenting
activities. Many of the comments made
by the parents reflect my own thoughts
on the strengths of our College. The
predominant impression created by the
boys at CBC is that they are engaged in
their education, have a strong sense of
belonging and are proud of their school.
There is little doubt that the quality of
our students is the strongest indicator
of our success as a College. I thank
and congratulate all of those boys

who contributed to Open Day – many
of whom voluntarily stayed at school
until well after 6.00pm. I also thank the
many members of staff and the current
parents who willingly provided their time
and talents to ensure that an accurate
picture of our sense of community
was evident for all of our visitors.
Share the JourneyThis innovative programme is conducted
by a group of dads from the College
through the Parent Auxiliary. It provides
a tremendous opportunity to enhance
the relationship between fathers and
their sons. An advertisement for this
programme appears in this newsletter
and I draw your attention to it for further
details. While all fathers of the College
are invited to attend we do extend a
particular invitation to Year 7 dads.
The preparatory meeting for dads took
place at the College last evening and was
very well attended. The walk is on this
Sunday 20 March and is sure to be an
invaluable and rewarding experience.
Swimming CarnivalWe wish all of our swimmers well for their
participation in the A Division of the ACC
Swimming Carnival next Wednesday. After
a long and thorough training season the
boys can derive strength from the fact that
they are well prepared. Good luck, boys!

Share the JourneyDon’t miss the opportunity to
with your son
Sunday 20 March at 9.35am for 10.00am start at Point Walter Amphitheatre
CBC Fremantle Parent Auxiliary invites dads and their sons to share a unique adventure that will last approximately three hours, and stay with you for a lifetime.
All you need to do is put on your walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen, and bring a water bottle.
This is a special event for fathers and their sons to enjoy a relaxed walk together, explore some local history and to generally have a chat about a range of issues, including your family’s history. A free sausage sizzle will conclude the event.
Members of the College Leadership, Shaun Kenny and Dom Burgio, together with several senior students, will join fathers and sons.
Please advise of your attendance to to the walk by emailing John Atkinson at [email protected].
Spend some quality time with
your son – take a walk with him
and Share the Journey.

Sunday 20 March Share the Journey
Share the Journey month
Schedule in your diary an early morning start with your
son and take him to school via your favourite coffee shop for
breakfast. This is a great way to talk to your son without any
distractions and find out what’s been happening in his life.
Plan a Sunday drive with your son, maybe somewhere you
haven’t been before. Aim for a place a few hours away and let
him be the navigator.
Prepare a meal together. This is a great way to spend time in
a relaxed environment, talking about what’s happening in each
other’s lives while having a bit of fun. You may be surprised at
the results!
Do more things with your son than for him … make the most
of those ‘teachable’ moments.
Celebrate the journey with these fun suggestions to build up your ‘frequent father points’ with your son.
Year 11/12 Term 1 Interim Reports
Term 1 Interim Reports were sent out on Friday for all
Year 11 and 12 students.
Families are encouraged to discuss the results with
their sons. You are also encouraged to attend the
upcoming Year 11 and 12 Parent-Teacher interviews
being held after school on Wednesday 30 March.
Instructions for making appointments were sent out
by the College via email on Friday.
Round 1 OLNA 2016The first round of OLNA (Online Literacy and
Numeracy Assessment) testing for students in Year 10,
11 and 12 was completed at the College this week.
Passing the OLNA (by obtaining a Category 3 rating
for the 3 tests – Writing, Reading and Numeracy)
now forms part of the requirement for students to
achieve their WACE (Western Australian Certificate
of Education). The WACE is commonly referred to as
secondary graduation.
Results for the first round of OLNA tests are expected
back to schools around mid-May. Families will be
informed of these results in writing.

CBC snippetsParents are the backbone of the CBC community, and the popular Open Day sausage sizzle that fed
hungry student helpers and more than 350 visitors could only have happened with the hard work from
the Parent Auxiliary. Pictured are Petria Fourie, Bridget Holohan, Joyce Merenda, John Atkinson and son

Want to meet a great bunch of blokes, improve your fitness
and have fun playing footy with guys aged 33yrs and over? Come along and meet the Fremantle Phantoms for a training run and when you are ready you can play competitive football in the AFL Masters WA League. Masters football is played across 3 different age divisions (33-40yrs, 40-45yrs, 45yrs+) and the league has tweaked a few rules to promote player safety, but the real change is in the attitude—this is ‘Footy for Kicks’ and is played in a great spirit. There are currently 18 teams across the metro area and games are played every second Sunday at various metro-politan grounds.
At the Phantoms you will meet a friendly bunch of blokes who love their footy and a good social time. We come from all walks of life and all sorts of skill levels. Some have never played before, some are ex rugby players, some are ex AFL and WAFL players, but everyone is welcome.
Commencing Sunday February 7 at 8.00am we have light training runs starting at South Beach (on the grassed area to the right of the café ) and in March we start training on Wednesday nights at Gil Fraser Reserve in North Fremantle.
Membership fees are a very reasonable $200. This fee includes a free meal every Wednesday night, free on-site physio services, subsidised wind-up tickets, cheap club priced beers etc etc
You don’t have to be super fit to play Masters Footy, just ready to have a go and make some new mates. Ready to get in the picture?
More information is available on our club web site or on Facebook—or you can email the President , John Atkinson [email protected] or phone 0419 905 060.
