“ I heard that CATS Colleges in England were really good schools but I have always wanted to go to an American university. When I heard that they had a location in Boston, I knew I wanted to go there.”“in Brazil, you have 40 students in one class. in Boston, however there are far fewer students – the teacher can pay individual attention to you. the teachers really care – if you are having trouble, they want to help, ensuring we realize our potential – it’s what they do here. i really like the way they prepare us for college, for example i have been helped a lot with the SAt exam. i also like having a personal advisor – we can talk about how our week is going, or any questions i may have. Sometimes if you have a really bad day, it is good to talk to someone about it. As it is a boarding school, we have teachers living close by at all times. if i have an English question, i can just ask Ms. Kelsey. usually, students in Brazil do extracurricular activities outside school – you have to find places to do sports or activities on your own. Here, we have so many more options like badminton, crew or basketball organized for us. you also have the opportunity to try new things. i am on the crew team and i also am in the Model uN club.”

“ We don’t have too many students in each class so the teachers can pay individual attention to every student.”“the classes are very different from those i had in China. the class size is much smaller here. i went to private schools in China where there were over 30 students in one class. the teaching style is different too. teachers in China would try to make classes difficult by giving tough assignments, but at CAtS Academy, teachers explain everything and make tests understandable.
Many of the teachers at CAtS Academy are graduates from really good universities such as Harvard, Brown and Stanford, which is really useful. i have the option to choose some classes according to my interests, or some other classes in different levels in terms of difficulty, to match my ability, such as Math.”

Extracurricular activitiesColleges look for students who are involved in extracurricular activities – sports, music and/or clubs such as photography, model uN, etc.
Social developmentStudents should show that they are well-adjusted socially and have a strong character or personality through volunteering, special interests and hobbies, and leadership opportunities.
At CAtS Academy, we not only provide an excellent academic curriculum, we also provide a wide and appealing range of extracurricular activities – from sports and clubs to music. We also place a great emphasis on students being
well adjusted socially and encourage character-building activities such as community service, culture club, and model uN. our approach is always holistic.

unlike many other countries where admission is based primarily on standardized test scores, uS colleges and universities take into account everything about a student, not just academics. Colleges want to build talented and diverse student communities filled with well-rounded students. our program reflects this and focuses as much on developing well-rounded individuals as it does on grades and exams.
We also aim to guide you and your parents through the unpredictable and complicated uS admissions process. We work with you to make sure you find the right degree program at the right college or university – and then devise a strategy for gaining admission. With this in mind, we arrange college visits during September and october, numerous workshops, and one-to-one counseling sessions with the Director of College Counseling.

“ My college counselor has helped me discover my full potential – together we have found great colleges that match my goals and academic performance.”“throughout the college application process, i was assigned to a teacher who helped to review my essays – this was extremely useful. Before the application was sent, my college counselor helped me check that the application was complete.
i chose CAtS Academy because it was the right school for me – first of all, the student population was very small. i have built good relationships with the teachers here – to apply to university they need to know you as well as possible so that they can recommend the best possible route for each individual student. this school provided a lot of AP courses which i was very interested in. i wanted to challenge myself with AP courses. there are some really great teachers – Mr. Egan from Harvard, not only teaches academics, but he tells us what it is like to go to a top university and what it takes to get there. it really motivates students.”

“ I now have friends from all over the world. I have friends who are South African, Armenian, Kazakh, American, Vietnamese, Chinese, Turkish and Brazilian.”“i love the teachers! that’s the main thing for me – personally i want to like teachers because then i will like the subject. the subjects are interesting – it’s not like regular reading and writing – we do different activities – we talk, we share. in my old school, we were all from russia. Here we have students from different countries who speak russian but also speak the language from their own country. Boston is a great place for studying – when you have all the schools around and everyone is studying, you want to study too. At home, teachers don’t like to socialize and communicate with kids after school. they don’t want to be friends with students – all they want is to be strict and just get homework and good grades from students. they are not going to stand up for you, they won’t listen or help you with something outside of school. Here, teachers will always listen, they will try to help you.”
