M A S S I N T E N T I O N S Dear Parishioners, Happy May! It has been a wonderful Easter season so far, filled with lots of signs of new life. This weekend is no exception as we welcome our second graders to the Table of the Lord as they receive their First Holy Communion and our eighth graders to receive their Confirmation. Each of these groups is a great group of young people and I am so hopeful about the future of the church in the caliber of these young people. It has been an honor and joy to work with them in preparing for this special day. Thank you so much to Gail Monroe, Marian Patterson, Mary Ellen Darrah, and MaryBeth Kelly for preparing our sec-ond graders and to Kate Betters and Patrice Garuckas for preparing our eighth graders. Please keep the First Communicants and Confirmandi in your prayers as they make this important step on their journey of faith. Thank you to Renee Barber and the entire RCIA team for preparing our 5 newly initiated members of the church at the Easter Vigil. Erika, Daniel, Michelle, Sarah, and Amanda are awesome people and are valued members of our parish community. They all have a true love of Jesus Christ and the Church, and our community is blessed to have them. We were a little worried that we would not have anyone for RCIA this year but these people came forward and graced us with their commitment. Renee and her team do an excellent job of preparing these people! If you know anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith, please call Renee Barber, Fr. Thom, or me at the parish office.
Once again the Bishop has chosen our parish to prepare a Transition-al Deacon in his final year of preparation to be ordained a priest. Deacon Joe Robinson has been assigned to our parish. He will be with us full time starting May 20. He will return to the Seminary for his final year of studies in August but he will be with us on weekends and Mondays throughout the school year. Deacon Joe is from Mary Queen of the Apostles Parish in Brook Park. Ironically, this is the parish where I was assigned as a Transitional Deacon and Deacon Joe was a teenager when I was there. I am certainly getting old! It is an honor the Bishop keeps choosing our parish to prepare seminarians
on all levels. This is a sign of a truly healthy, vibrant parish! As you know Fr. Tim has been asked by the Bishop to study Canon Law in Rome for the next five years. Fr. Tim’s last day with us will be May 31. He is going to take a few weeks off, then study Italian for eight weeks at language school, then he is off to Rome in Septem-ber. We will have his farewell on Sunday, May 26 at the 11 am Mass. We will follow this Mass with a picnic, similar to what we did for Fr. Scott last year. Watch the bulletin for more details. I have requested that Fr. Tim not be replaced at SRW. I have to say that the shared pastor-ate with St. John of the Cross is working well, though I really miss all of you. With three priests covering four weekend Masses, I was only doing one weekend Mass here at SRW each weekend. With Fr. Thom and I doing the weekend Masses at SRW, I will do two a weekend here, rotate through all the Masses, and be able to see you more often :). The Bishop will assign a “part-time” priest (one who has another job in the Diocese as well) to help me at St. John of the Cross. Fr. Thom and I will together minister to all you wonder-ful people of SRW. I think this will be great. I will have more information on this in the months to come as we adjust. Make it a great week! See you in Church. Peace, Fr. John 2
