The reading from Deuteronomy is a reminder of God’s fidelity to the Hebrew people, and their responsibility to offer the first fruits of their labors back to the Lord. In Romans, Paul teaches the people to confess that Jesus is Lord, and to be saved. In the Gospel of Luke, the devil tempts Jesus in the desert.

Diocesan Social Ministries Collection Ash Wednesday, February 10

Each parish does what it can to address the needs of the people who live within their area but there are many people whose needs cannot be met by their parish alone. The Diocesan Social Ministries help these people through social service agencies like Catholic Charities, San Jose Clinic and St. Vincent de Paul Society. At this time, the beginning of Lent, let us think of the needs of our neighbors and offer alms for their benefit.

Black and Indian Missions Collection

Next Weekend Many new evangelization efforts are being made in the Black, Indian, Eskimo and Aleute communities. This collection supports evangelization efforts for some of the neediest people across the United States; from the inner cities of the rural South and from the deserts of the Southwest to Alaska’s cold wilderness. Through your gifts, you join in sacrifice with those who sacrifice daily to lead others to Christ.

Colecta para el Ministerio Social Diocesano El Miércoles de Ceniza, 10 de Febrero

Cada parroquia hace lo que puede para sensibilizar a la comunidad sobre las necesidades de la gente que vive en su propia área aunque hay muchas necesidades que la gente tiene y que la parroquia sola no puede solucionar. El Ministerio Social Diocesano ayuda a esas personas a través de agencias de servicio social como las Caridades Católicas, la Clínica San José y la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul. En este momento en que iniciamos nuestro tiempo de Cuaresma, pensemos en las necesidades de nuestros vecinos y ofrezcámosles a ellos una ayuda generosa que los beneficiará enormemente.

OLMC School News Steps for Students

Steps for Students is an annual Archdiocesan-wide event where all school and parish communities can come together as one to support Catholic education. The goal of Steps for Students is to raise awareness of the importance of a Catholic education and provide much needed resources for our Catholic Schools. This day of family fun includes a 5k USA Track and Field Association sanctioned race, the David K. Guite Memorial 1k Family Fun Run, Catholic School Parade and Post Race Party. Registrants have the opportunity to join a school team. The sponsorships for the race and any registration fees or pledges support the Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Program. The Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Program is a commitment that the Archdiocese makes to keep Catholic schools accessible, available and affordable to all families. This commitment is the hallmark of our faith and service in regards to the educational mission of the Church. With 61 schools, serving over 18,000 students, the network of Catholic Schools is the largest private school system in the state of Texas. This year, Steps for Students will be on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Please help support Catholic Education and help support our school and our students by sponsoring a student and donating to Steps for Students!

Pasos por los estudiantes es un evento anual de toda la Arquidiócesis en la cual todas las escuelas y comunidades parroquiales pueden juntarse para apoyar la educación católica.

El objetivo de pasos por los estudiantes es crear conciencia de la importancia de una educación católica de calidad y proporcionar los recursos necesarios para nuestras escuelas católicas. Este día de diversión familiar incluye una pista americana y una carrera de Campo de 5 kilómetros, la divertida carrera familiar de 1

kilómetro en memoria de David K. Guite, el desfile de la escuela católica y la fiesta después de la carrera. Los que deseen participar tienen la oportunidad de integrar alguno de los equipos de la escuela. Los patrocinios para la carrera y las el valor de los registros sirven para apoyar el Programa de Asistencia de Matrícula que tiene la Arquidiócesis. El Programa de Asistencia de Matrícula de la Arquidiócesis es un compromiso que la misma Arquidiócesis hace para hacer que las escuelas católicas sean accesibles, disponibles y asequibles para todas las familias. Este compromiso es el sello de nuestra fe y de servicio en lo que respecta a la misión educativa de la Iglesia. Con 61 escuelas, que atienden a más de 18.000 estudiantes, la red de Escuelas Católicas es el sistema de escuelas privadas más grande que existe en el estado de Texas.
