  • Greetings from Osprey!

2020 is set to be a very exciting year for Osprey, with a host of fantastic titles publishing throughout the year. Our new military

fitness title Be Para Fit (p.1) and its accompanying app are set to inspire beginners and aspiring Paras alike to journey towards

elite fitness alongside former leader of Paratrooper selection Major Sam McGrath.

In the gripping Blood, Metal and Dust (p.2), Brigadier Ben Barry offers an explosive insight into the wars in Iraq and

Afghanistan, providing a detailed account of events on the ground during the conflicts. Given the ongoing scrutiny of the role of

female soldiers in these and other conflicts, Julie Wheelwright’s Sisters in Arms (p.2) is a timely and relevant exploration of the

history of female soldiers across the centuries which challenges the contemporary relationship between masculinity and combat.

Tapping into the desire for alternative perspectives in military history, both The Devil’s Bridge (p.4) and To Defeat the Few (p.4)

explore key aspects of World War II through the eyes of German forces. In the former, Anthony Tucker-Jones examines the battle

for Arnhem, the result of the disastrous Allied Operation Market Garden, whilst the latter, by Paul Crickmore and Doug Dildy is a

fascinating analysis of the Battle of Britain from the perspective of the Luftwaffe.

Osprey Games also has a selection of exciting new releases this year, including Oathmark (p.26), a mass-battle fantasy

wargame, and Letterpress (p.24). a clever card game for witty wordsmiths. Fans of Frostgrave (p.27) are set to enter the Frozen

City once again with a revised and expanded edition of the multi-award-winning wargame, whilst Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter

players will be able to adventure solo with the new Dark Judges expansion (p.25).

    Enjoy!

In Good FaithA history of the Vietnam War Volume 1: 1945–65

    Sergio Miller

The first of a two-volume history of America’s involvement in

Indochina, from the end of World War II to the Fall of Saigon in 1975.

This volume tells the story from the Japanese surrender in 1945

through America’s involvement in the French Indochina War and the

initial advisory missions that followed. It describes how these missions

gradually grew in both scope and scale, and how America became ever

more committed to the region, especially following the Gulf of Tonkin

incident in 1964, which led to the first bombing missions over North

Vietnam. It finishes at the climax of Operation Rolling Thunder, just prior

to the first commitment of US ground forces to the war in Vietnam in the

spring of 1965. Examining in depth both the events and the key figures

of the conflict, this is a definitive new narrative of American engagement

    in Vietnam.

Sergio Miller is a former British Army Intelligence Corps officer who

served in Special Forces. He was deployed to Northern Ireland and

undertook assignments in South America and East Asia. In the first Gulf

War he served as an intelligence briefer to the UK Joint Commander.

Since leaving the armed forces he has worked in the defence industry.

He continues to support the Reserves and writes regularly on defence

    subjects.

Sisters in ArmsFemale warriors from antiquity to the new millennium

    Julie Wheelwright

A timely study that illuminates the neglected history of female soldiers

from the ancient warriors of antiquity to the present day.

Beginning with the founding myth of the Amazons, Julie Wheelwright

explores the history of women in arms. She traces our fascination with

these figures, many of whom successfully disguised themselves as men,

using primary sources and their own words to bring their experiences

vividly to light. Among these forgotten heroines are Christian Davies,

Ireland’s most famous 18th-century soldier, who received poems from

adoring women claiming that she represented a resurgence of ‘the

Amazonian race’; Sarah Edmonds, who left her native Canada and was

among hundreds of women to enlisted on both sides during the American

Civil War; Maria Bochkareva, a private in the Tsar’s army and leader of

the Women’s Battalion of Death in 1917; and Captain Flora Sandes, hero

of the Serbian Army who toured Australia, thrilling her audiences with

    tales of bravery and patriotism.

Dr Julie Wheelwright is the programme director of the MA Creative Writing

(non-fiction) which she founded in 2007 at City, University of London. She

is a prolific author and, as a former print and broadcast journalist whose

career included producing and contributing to documentaries for BBC

radio and television, Channel 4, and the History Channel, she has written

widely on women in the intelligence services and in the military.

Blood, Metal and DustThe Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq 2001–14

    Ben Barry

The first authoritative military history of the wars in Iraq and

Afghanistan to tell the detailed story of what happened on the ground.

Inextricably linked to the ongoing ‘War on Terror’, the wars in Iraq and

Afghanistan dominated more than a decade of international politics,

and their influence is felt to this day. Blood, Metal and Dust is the

first military history to offer a comprehensive overview of both wars,

providing in-depth accounts of the operations undertaken by both US

and UK forces. Brigadier Ben Barry explores the wars which shaped the

modern Middle East, providing a detailed narrative of operations as

they unfolded. With unparalleled access to official military accounts and

extensive contacts in both the UK and the US militaries, Brigadier Barry is

uniquely placed to tell the story of these controversial conflicts, and offers

a rounded account of the international campaigns which irrevocably

    changed the global geopolitical landscape.

Ben Barry led the British Army’s analysis of the lessons of the Iraq

campaign, which, though classified, informs Blood, Metal and Dust.

Before leaving the Army in October 2010, he wrote A Cold War: Front-

line Operations in Bosnia 1995–1996, which was shortlisted for the

British Army Book of the Year award. He has written extensively for IISS

publications, and is one of the authors of the annual Military Balance.

    In Cold War Skies

    Michael Napier

A highly illustrated survey of the air power deployed by NATO and

Warsaw Pact countries throughout the Cold War.

In Cold War Skies examines the air power of the major powers both at a

strategic and at a tactical level throughout the 40 years of the Cold War.

In this fascinating book, acclaimed historian Michael Napier looks at

each decade of the war in turn, examining the deployment of strategic

offensive and defensive forces in North America and Northern Russia as

well as the situation in Europe. He details the strategic forces and land-

based tactical aircraft used by the air forces of the USA, USSR, NATO,

Warsaw Pact countries and the European non-aligned nations. He also

describes the aircraft types in the context of the units that operated them

and the roles in which they were used. The text is supported by a wide

range of first-hand accounts of operational flying during the Cold War, as

    well as numerous high-quality images.

Michael Napier is an acclaimed author with six published titles to

his name – including The Royal Air Force: A Centenary of Operations

published by Osprey – and an ex-RAF Tornado pilot who saw front-line

service during the Cold War as well as combat experience over Iraq. He

is thorough in his research and, due to his knowledge of air warfare, is

highly qualified to write on the subject.

    Victor ‘Tory’ Failmezger

The gripping story of the German occupation of Rome from the Italian

armistice in September 1943 until the liberation of the city in 1944.

In September 1943, after the announcement of the Italian Armistice, the

German Army disarmed Italian forces and overran Rome. The Gestapo

wasted no time enforcing an iron grip on the city, but resistance remained

strong throughout the nine-month-long occupation that followed. Priests

and diplomats operating out of the Vatican aided escaped POWs whilst

Italian partisan fighters launched attack after attack on German military

units in the city, with the threat of execution never far away.

Rome: City in Terror, 1943–44 tells the compelling story of an Eternal

City brought low, of the terror and hardship of occupation, and of the

disparate army of partisan fighters, displaced aristocrats, Vatican

priests, Allied POWs and ordinary citizens who battled for the liberation

    of Rome.

Victor ‘Tory’ Failmezger is a retired US Naval Officer. In the early 1970s, he

was stationed at NATO in Naples and in the early 1980s he served as the

Assistant Naval Attaché in Rome, where he participated in the celebration

marking the 40th anniversary of the city’s liberation. He was later Director

of the US Navy Science and Technology Group, Europe. His recent works

    The Devil's BridgeArnhem 1944

    Anthony Tucker-Jones

A new look at Operation Market Garden and the Arnhem campaign from

the perspective of the German forces who defended against the Allies.

Operation Market Garden, the 17 September 1944 launch of the largest

airborne and glider operation in the history of warfare, was intended to

outflank the German West Wall and ‘bounce’ the Rhine at Arnhem, from

where the Allies could strike into the Ruhr, Nazi Germany’s industrial

heartland. Such a move could have ended the war. However, the operation

and the subsequent battle for Arnhem were a disaster for the Allies. Put

together in little over a week and lacking in flexibility, Market Garden

became an all-or-nothing race against time. This new book explores the

operation from the perspective of the Germans, examining how they were

able to mobilise so swiftly and effectively in spite of depleted troops and

    limited intelligence.

Anthony Tucker-Jones started his career writing for Jane’s Defence Weekly

and Jane’s Intelligence Review. He has written a number of books on

aspects of World War II and regularly appears on Sky News, ITV, Channel 4,

BBC television, BBC radio and the History Channel.

To Defeat the FewThe Luftwaffe’s campaign to destroy RAF Fighter Command,

    August–September 1940

Douglas C. Dildy and Paul F. Crickmore

This new history, based on an exhaustive study of German records,

explores the Battle of Britain through the eyes of the Luftwaffe.

Successful air campaigns are those that achieve their intended aims

or stated objectives. Victory in the Battle of Britain was determined by

whether the Luftwaffe achieved its objectives; of course, they did not, and

this detailed and rigorous study explains why. Analysing the battle in its

entirety in the context of what it was – history’s first independent offensive

counter-air campaign against the world’s first integrated air defence

system – Douglas Dildy and Paul Crickmore set out to re-examine this

remarkable conflict. Presenting the events of the Battle of Britain in the

context of the Luftwaffe’s campaign and RAF Fighter Command’s battles

against it, this title is a new and innovative history of the world’s most

    famous air campaign.

Douglas C. Dildy is a retired US Air Force colonel who has authored

several campaign studies and is a regular contributor to Small Air Forces

    Observer.

Paul F. Crickmore is the author both of the first detailed book to be

MAJOR BILL LEVERETTE ATTACKING JU 87 STUKAS, MIDDAY 9 OCTOBER 1943 (PP. 36–37)

Credential Force was a naval unit comprising the cruiser HMS

Carlisle, and destroyers HMS Petard, Panther, and, initially, Aldenham

and the Greek Themistocles, both of which were relieved on Friday,

8 October by HMS Rockwood and the Greek Miaoulis. On Saturday

morning, Credential Force was retiring southward on a course of

160 degrees, some 70 miles north-east of Crete. RAF Beaufighters

and American P-38 Lightnings provided air cover. Close to midday,

P-38s of 94th FS withdrew shortly before the arrival of a relief flight

from 37th FS. At the same time, Ju 87 Stukas of I./St.G. 3 arrived and,

facing no aerial opposition, dive-bombed the convoy. HMS Panther

received a direct hit, split in two and quickly sank. Several bombs

struck HMS Carlisle aft, rendering her immobile. One Stuka and its

    crew fell to anti-aircraft fire.

    I. Gruppe departed, narrowly avoiding contact with approaching

P-38s of 37th FS, led by squadron commander Major Bill Leverette

(1). While orbiting the convoy, the P-38 pilots noticed an estimated

25 (II. Gruppe) Stukas en route from the opposite direction. The

P-38s changed course to pass behind and above the formation.

With three P-38s providing high cover, Leverette’s flight of four

aircraft dived on the Ju 87s (2).

After he had engaged six Stukas, Leverette closed on a seventh,

firing a full burst into the bottom of the fuselage and setting the

engine on fire. The Stuka dived abruptly. Leverette was unable

to break away upward and in attempting to pass under the

right wing, the P-38’s left propeller sliced through the enemy

machine. The P-38 survived. A running fight continued for some

15 minutes, until the Ju 87s had passed over the south coast of

Rhodes. Although some Stukas had struck at the convoy, no ships

    were lost.

American pilots were credited with destroying 17 enemy

aircraft. In addition to Maj. Leverette’s seven Ju 87s, five were

claimed by Lt. Troy Hanna, three more and a probable by Lt. Homer

Sprinkle and one by Lt. Robert Margison. Lieutenant Wayne Blue

was credited with a Ju 88 (probably a misidentified 252 Squadron

Beaufighter, three of which were attacked by three P-38s). Naval

gunners claimed three aircraft shot down. According to Luftwaffe

records, seven Ju 87D-3s fell to fighter attack. Another made an

emergency landing. One Ju 87D-4 was shot down by AA fire. In all,

12 Luftwaffe aircrew died; 60 naval officers and ratings lost their

lives and about 55 were injured.

Among those taken prisoner was the British commander of Kos, Col.

Kenyon. Many managed to escape, using whatever means were available.

Isolated parties of Allied soldiers and airmen also remained in hiding long

    after the fighting had ended.

Müller would record that his battle group ultimately took prisoner 3,145

‘Badoglio Italians’ and 1,388 British. German losses amounted to 14 or 15

dead and at least 70 wounded.

WAR AT SEA AND ON LAND: 4–11 OCTOBER

On Wednesday, 6 October, IX./Festungsinfanteriebataillon embarked on the

steamship Olympos and six Marinefährprähme and set sail from Piraeus

with UJ 2111 as escort. The battalion was destined for Kos, to take over

from the combat units there, enabling them to prepare for the forthcoming

invasion of Leros. Early the next day, the British submarine Unruly sighted

the convoy off Kos. After an unsuccessful torpedo attack, Unruly surfaced

and opened fire with her deck gun. Olympos was struck and veered away

and an F-lighter was set on fire and immobilized before the escort vessel also

began taking hits. UJ 2111 was saved by the appearance of four aircraft.

Unruly broke off the attack and dived, following which the escort vessel and

five of the six F-lighters continued at speed towards Kos.

Meanwhile, the Royal Navy cruisers Sirius and Penelope in company

with the destroyers Faulknor and Fury were racing towards the scene.

The destroyers intercepted and sunk Olympos and rejoined the cruisers in

attacking the rest of the convoy. UJ 2111 was so severely damaged that she

had to be abandoned by her crew. The warships then turned their fire on

survivors in the water. After withdrawing, the British warships were targeted

by German aircraft, resulting in substantial losses in dead and wounded.

At least one German vessel, a badly damaged landing craft, was able to

reach Astipalaea. On board were 80 or more personnel, soon to become

prisoners of the island’s resident Italian forces and M2 Patrol of the LRDG.

For these men, the end of the

battle for Kos was the start of a

long journey to prison camps in

    the Reich. (Author’s collection)

    50

On the night of 10–11 November, Allied warships targeted German invasion craft assembling for the expected invasion of Leros. The British destroyers Petard and Rockwood and the Polish Krakowiak bombarded Kalymnos harbour, where escort vessels sustained splinter damage; Trapani, damaged in a previous attack, was set on fire and capsized. While withdrawing, HMS Rockwood was struck by a glide bomb that, luckily, failed to explode. HM ships Faulknor, Beaufort and the Greek Pindos also bombarded Kos harbour, albeit with little effect.

    ENIGMA AND ULTRA

Winston Churchill was kept well informed with regard to German intentions, knowing in advance such crucial details as enemy shipping movements. Since the beginning of hostilities, the Germans had relied on Enigma, a machine designed for the encryption and decryption of secret messages. But transmissions were being intercepted and passed on to cryptanalysts and translators at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire, England. When, during the night of 6–7 November, a German signaller advised that the code word ‘Leopard’ had been replaced with ‘Taifun’, it was duly noted by British Intelligence and passed on to the British prime minister. ‘Ultra’, as the decoding operation was called, had to remain a closely guarded secret. Being seen to act on information that could have derived only from Enigma would also inform the Germans that their supposedly indecipherable means of communication had been compromised.

On 11 November, air reconnaissance observed considerable movement of landing craft between Kos and Kalymnos. It was also known through Ultra that Taifun was to commence the following day. However, British relief destroyers were not expected to arrive in the area of operations until late on 12–13 November, making it essential for those already there to conserve fuel. HMS Faulknor and two Hunt-class destroyers were therefore diverted to an anchorage near the Kos Channel, from where the Hunts could be sent to attack any landing craft that might be reported off Kos. The force arrived at Alakishli Bay in the early hours of Friday, 12 November, by which time Operation Taifun was already under way.

    OPERATION TAIFUN: 12 NOVEMBER

Embarkation of German forces destined for Leros had been completed by about 2000hrs on Thursday, 11 November. Meanwhile, some two to three miles (3–5km) off Leros, BYMS 72 (British Yard Minesweeper) was on a supply run to the island, when she was attacked by Dornier Do 217s and struck by a remote-controlled Henschel Hs 293 glide bomb. The explosion brought down the ship’s mast, knocked out the port Oerlikon and damaged the

Hardly any images have emerged showing Allied forces on Kos or Leros. This rare photograph taken atop Scumbarda shows New Zealander Second Lieutenant Frank White (second from right) with members of his LRDG callsign, apparently observing aerial activity above their position. USS JOHN D. EDWARDS (DD-216)C

USS John D. Edwards was one of 156 Clemson-class destroyers built for the United States Navy. It was built by William Cramp & Sons at Philadelphia. Laid down on May 21, 1919, it was launched on October 18, 1919. It has the distinction of being the flush-deck destroyer which remained continuously in commission longest. Commissioned on April 20, 1920, it remained continuously in service until July 28, 1945.

Edwards spent a stretch in the Mediterranean and Black Sea from May 1920 to May 1921, three years from 1925 to 1927 conducting training cruises out of Norfolk, and two years in 1928–29 on the West Coast. Edwards was part of the Asiatic Fleet from 1921 to 1925 and from August 1929 until March 1942, when the Asiatic Fleet was dissolved.

Edwards carried relief supplies to Japan after the 1923 earthquake, protected foreigners during the Chinese Civil War in 1924, and after 1937 guarded American interests during the Sino-Japanese War. After Pearl Harbor, Edwards was part of the ABDA Command in the Java Sea. It fought at the battle of Balikpapan on February 20, 1942, and the battle of Java Sea on February 27 the same year. One of four flush-deck destroyers to escape the Java Sea on March 1, 1942, Edwards spent the rest of the war escorting Atlantic convoys.

This plate shows John D. Edwards as it would have appeared in the 1920s.

The Navy Board decided the solution lay in mass producing destroyers to a common design. The design used was based on the Caldwell class. In many ways, the Caldwell class represented the pinnacle of destroyer design in 1915. They would have been perfect destroyers for Jutland. They could scout out the area. They could dash in against the enemy battle line to fire salvoes of six torpedoes each – twice – and then protect their battle line from enemy torpedo attack with 4in. quick-firing guns.

Yet a design that was perfect in 1915 already held shortcomings by 1916. It had little antiaircraft strength and no

antisubmarine capability. The main battery used low-angle guns, incapable of being used against aircraft, and the two planned 1.1in. machine guns were inadequate even in World War I. And by 1916 destroyers were emerging as the most important ship for fighting submarines. But the design was available, and ships were needed quickly. The result was the Wickes class, slightly modified versions of the Caldwell class.

Wickes retained the same general arrangements as the Caldwell-class destroyers. It was slightly longer – 314ft 4.5in. against the 308ft waterline length of the Caldwells – and shared the same general arrangement of guns and torpedoes. To simplify construction, it reverted to the twin-screw design, abandoning the center propeller. It also had a knife-edge cruiser stern rather than the cutaway stern of the Caldwells.

USS STOCKTON (DD73) IN WORLD WAR I

USS Stockton was one of six Caldwell-class destroyers. Each Caldwell differed. Stockton may have

been the most unusual flush-deck destroyer of them. It and its sister, USS Conner (DD-72), were

built with three funnels; the exhaust for the center two boilers were trunked together in a single,

    fat, central funnel.

Additionally, they had three propellers; a center shaft was turned by a high-pressure geared

turbine and two outer propellers ran off a direct-drive medium-pressure steam turbine. Stockton

could run under the center propeller when cruising, to save fuel. Stockton was also experimentally

armed with a twin 4in./50-cal. mount forward.

Stockton was in commission with the US Navy from 1918 to 1922. It served in World War I, being

stationed out of Brest, France. It was turned over to the Royal Navy as part of the Destroyers-for-

Bases swap in 1940. It served in the Royal Navy as HMS Leeds from October 1940 to April 1945.

This plate shows Stockton as it appeared in 1918, painted in a distinctive dazzle camouflage

    pattern of that period.

Displacement: 1,010 tons (normal), 1,125 tons (full load)

    previously used as a prototype

    seaplane tender and then

    classified as a miscellaneous

    auxiliary, as a prototype for

    a destroyer-conversion high-

    speed transport (APD). Manley

    was given a partial conversion,

allowing it to carry 120 Marines.

    The experiment was successful.

    In 1939, Manley went

    through a more comprehensive

refit. The forward fire room was

    converted to accommodations

for troops, with the front two

    boilers and smokestacks removed

to make room. Also removed were all the torpedo tubes, replaced by davits

to hold landing craft and four 36-foot LCPL (Landing Craft, Personnel,

Large) or LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle Personnel) Higgins boats. The two

waist guns were altered: one was removed, and the second was mounted on

the centerline. The ship could carry up to 200 Marines for up to 48 hours.

Even with two boilers removed, the ADPs made a good turn of speed.

Water resistance increases as the cube of the speed; nearly half of a flush-

decker’s horsepower went to give it its final 6 knots of speed. In theory,

an APD could make 29 knots, but time had taken its toll on both hull and

machinery, and 26 knots was a more typical top speed for these old ships.

In May 1940, five more APD conversions were ordered, and by

December 7, 1941, six were in commission: USS Manley, Colhoun, Gregory,

Little, McKean, and Stringham. Initially the six were split between the Atlantic

and the Pacific. When the Allies moved to the offensive in the Solomons

USS Little (APD-3) in an early

    “Green Dragon” camouflage

    scheme. It was probably one

    applied extemporaneously

by the crew in August 1942.

    Little was lost on September

5, trapped in the Slot off

    Guadalcanal by a Japanese

    surface force. (AC)

    THE MANLEY OFF CORREGIDOR

One of the most popular uses for old flush-deck destroyers was as fast attack transports.

USS Manley, one of the six Caldwell-class destroyers, was the first ship converted and one of the

    longest-lived in that role.

Manley, a combat veteran of World War I, had been outfitted as a fast troop transport (APD) in

February 1939. In September 1942, Manley was one of six APDs sent to the Southwest Pacific to

support the first Allied offensive in the Pacific, the landing at Guadalcanal. It landed troops on

Guadalcanal several times during that campaign, and was one of two APDs to survive it. Later, it

participated in landings at Kwajalein, Yap, Saipan, Leyte Gulf, and Luzon.

In January 1945, Manley was one of four APDs assigned to land troops to recapture Corregidor,

captured by the Japanese in May 1942. Corregidor commanded the entrance to Manila Bay, and

its control was key to reopening Manila as a harbor.

This plate shows the opening of the landing. Shortly after sunrise, Manley stopped at the

departure point and lowered its four LCVP Higgins boats into the water. Each boat was 36ft long

and could carry 36 armed troops and its four-man crew. Although Corregidor had been

bombarded and bombed, hidden gun emplacements survived and took the invasion force,

including Manley, under fire. Manley responded by providing fire support with its broadside of

    three 4in./50-cal. guns.

The ship is shown in Camouflage Measure 31, a mixture of greens and brown. This was one of a

number of tropical green camouflage systems used for landing craft and fast attack transports. It

was adopted in 1943, and shows the Manley as it would have appeared during the recapture of

Corregidor on February 16, 1945. It probably sported several versions of tropical green

camouflage during its service as a fast transport.

Empires have fallen, and the land is broken. The great oathmarks that once stood as testaments to the allegiances and might of nations have crumbled into ruin. In this lost age, fealty and loyalty are as valuable as gold and as deadly as cold iron, and war is ever-present.

Created by Joseph A. McCullough, designer of Frostgrave and Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago, Oathmark is a mass-battle fantasy wargame that puts you in command of the fantasy army you’ve always wanted, whether a company of stalwart dwarves or a mixed force with proud elves, noble men, and wild goblins standing shoulder-to-shoulder in the battle-line. Fight through an integrated campaign system and develop your realms from battle to battle, adding new territories, recruiting new troop types, and growing to eclipse your rivals… or lose what you fought so hard to gain and fall as so many would-be emperors before you.

McCullough. Together, these three have breathed life into the Frozen City, depicting the wizards, warriors, and creatures that call it home.

With behind-the-scenes content, including concepts, sketches, work-in-progress shots, and commentary from the creators, this lavish volume features all the artwork produced for Frostgrave – from the rulebook that started it all to the Perilous Dark supplement.

    BOLT ACTION: CAMPAIGN: STALINGRAD

One of the most infamous and decisive battles of the Second World War, Stalingrad was a turning point of the Eastern Front, showing that the German juggernaut was not invincible. This new Campaign Book for Bolt Action allows players to refight the fierce Battle of Stalingrad, including the actions within the city itself and those of the surrounding area, the encirclement, and attempted relief and breakout. New, linked scenarios, rules, troop types, and Theatre Selectors provide plenty of options for both novice and veteran players alike.

HEAVY METAL COMBAT IN THE VIKING AGE

Bolt Action is the leading World War II tabletop wargame ruleset − from battles in the shattered towns of occupied France to the frozen steppes of Russia, and even the sweltering jungles of the Pacific.

Ginnungagap, the Gaping Abyss, was once what separated the realms of Ice and Fire, keeping them in balance and sparing the other realms from their ravages. With the Nine Realms shattered, however, Ginnungagap has been left unguarded and unspeakable horrors now await those who wish to cross it.

Ragnarok: The Abyss includes new scenarios for Ragnarok as well as new monsters to vanquish in glorious battle. New mechanics introduce something once barely recognised by war clans – Fear – and present entirely new challenges for

them to overcome in the telling of their sagas.
