The Romicron® Fine Boring Systemproduction is the outcome ofa huge investment in research,state-of-the-art facilities andspecial equipment. The Romicron®

Division is located in a plant totallydedicated to this purpose, housingengineering, R&D, production,marketing and service.It is where the Romicron®

customer finds the support of anengineering structure with highlyspecialized personnel, experiencedwith micron specifications andrequirements

of customers from differentsegments of market.

The Romicron® production

process demands absolute

control and precision

The precision starts by developingthe projects through CAD/CAM andcontinues in the productionof components, using only hightechnology equipment and highlyspecialized professionals,in facilities with monitoredtemperature and humidity.

All the Romicron® output isrigorously inspected, under rigidcontrols and repeatability tests thatassure its reliability, and practicaltests are conductedto confirm previous studies.The Romicron® heads are testedon a laser interferometer withresolution up to the fourth decimalpoint of a millimeter(4 millionths of an inch).

Precision with stiffness

The KR coupling provides the maximum stiffness onthe taper, through face to face contact.Also the KR coupling provides easy handling, whenassembling or disassembling to replace the Romicron®®®®®

models.

Romicron® Fine Boring System is a flexible, reliable,high-precision boring system available to the worldmarket. It is a unique process developed for finishinghigh precision bores in a fast and accurate way ofadjusting the tool tip.It allows adjustments of 0.000040” (1,0 µm) on thetool radius without removing the tool from themachine.It is specifically recommended for companies thatdemand statistic process control in production, with astable CPK of 1,2 or greater.Boring diameter range:0.125” to 12.834” (3,2 to 326,0 mm).The modular models are used for diameters since1.574” (40,0 mm), with no maximum application limit.

This kit, specific for die & mold applications, wasdeveloped to machine holes from 6,0 to 100,0 mm,and comprises model SVUBB2 with additionalaccessories. Besides the adjustment of 1,0µm on theradius, its main advantages are:A) Balancing system incorporated;B) Internal coolant supply up to 70 bar.

Romicron® Closed Loop Boring System - CLB

The Closed Loop Boring process, also called CLB, is a revolution inside the Romicron® evolution.Using this process the diameter adjustment is made automatically on the CNC machine, without the operatorever touching the boring head.

See how it works:

1) A precision system measures the holes, after the machine process.The data is sent to the CNC program.

2) The values are compared to the set points.3) If the diameter is in the range of the specified set points the machine

goes to the next hole. Otherwise, the software calculates thenecessary increment and automatically adjusts the Romicron®.

See the fluxogram on the right.

This process is possible only with the Romicron® System, because itdoes not require tools to make the adjustment.

c) Screw the Differential Connector (5) into the rearthread on the Boring Head (1) until the end of thethread. At this time it is not necessary to tightenthe Differential Connector (5).Remember that the Differential Connector (5) hastwo different screws, so there is no way toassemble the wrong side.

Warning:Before starting the assembly procedure,ensure that all surfacesto be assembled together are free of dirt and are completelyclean.

a) Remove the Differential Connector (5) from the TaperShank (2).

b) Lubricate the thread on the Differential Connector(5) with Lubricant ASL-3G (7), supplied with theTaper Shank.

d) Screw the front end of the taper shank (2) onto theDifferential Connector (5), now located at the backon the Boring Head (1). Screw carefully until thePositioning Pin (6) gently touches the Taper (2) face.Stop!

e) Unscrew the Taper Shank (2) a little bit until thePositioning Pin (6) is aligned with the positioningslot mark in the Taper Shank (2) face.

f) Insert the square end of the Extension (3) throughthe Taper Shank (2) and into the DifferentialConnector (5). Keeping the Positioning Pin (6) andthe positioning slot aligned, turn the Extensioncounterclockwise until you see that two Romicronfaces are meshing. Ensure that the Positioning Pin(6) is inserted into the slot on the Taper Shank (2).

g) Tighten the Differential Connector (5) with thespecified required torque, as shown on the table.Use the Torque Wrench (4) to do this.

How to balance the Romicron®

To adjust the Romicron® balancing rings at the right position is an easyoperation. The procedure is described below for the two product familieswith balancing rings: the SVUBB family and the SVU family.

SVUBB family

The models of this family have two balancing rings, with positionsdepending on the machined diameter. To select the right position,consult the balancing table that accompanies the product.The rings θ1 and θ2 are showed on the picture below.To make the adjustment follow the steps:1) Select the diameter to be bored2) Adjust the rings according to the table3) L = Left / R = Right

SVU family

The models of this family have one balancing ring, with positionsdepending on the machined diameter.
