Active regenerated filters with 95% or higher efficiencyOriginal equipment surface filters are used globally thanks to their high filtration efficiency.

This type of filter requires close monitoring of the particulate matter loading. Besides reaching

a pre-determined particulate matter loading level, the filter must regenerate by a rise in the

exhaust gas temperature. This is typically reached through a special ECU injection program

hat involves a post-injection of diesel fuel. The regeneration can take place at any time and

under any operating conditions, but it remains unnoticed by the driver.

Fuel additives and catalytic coatings on the filter are also used to ensure and support the

egeneration process. The additive system uses a dosing system which introduces a catalyticluid to the fuel, reducing the ignition temperature of the particulate matter by 150C and thus

promoting rapid combustion.

The combustible particle matter (mainly coil) and ash produced by lubricating oil and fuel

additives are collected in the filter. Despite huge progress in the development of formulations,

he ash slowly reduces the filter capacity as vehicle mileage grows. Drivers should then replace

he Original Diesel Particulate Filter with a new one.

Legislation: The technology challengeThe Euro IV emissions regulations were introduced in Europe in January 2005, which reducedhe particulate limit levels to 50% of the Euro III requirements. Thanks to innovative engineechnologies, most light weight diesel passenger cars can achieve these levels without a dieselparticulate filter. Heavy vehicles, however, require a diesel particulate filter. Nowadays withhe Euro V legislation, applicable as of 2009, diesel particulate filters are required for all dieselpassenger cars and light commercial vehicles (vans).

DPF Replacement is needed:

when the vehicle shows the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) on thedashboard

when your mileage is between 80,000 or 120,000 km, dependingof the DPF generation (for more information see service manual of t he

vehicle)*

DPF Diagnosis

Carry out a check of the system with an ECU (Electronic Control Unit)Diagnostic Tool in order to see why t he MIL light is on:Check pressure sensorsCheck temperature sensorsCheck the additive levelCheck the status of a catalytic converterCheck lambda sensors

DPF Replacement ProcessAll vehicles equipped with an Additive Assisted Diesel Particle Filter require a service stop between 40,000 and80,000 km. During this stop, several actions will take place; like refilling the additive, checking the status of aDPF and a catalytic converter or replacing the unit when necessary.

Once collected in the filter, the particles need t o be eliminated to prevent it from

blocking up and ceasing to function. The only way to destroy them is to burn them.

The active ingredient of the EOLYSFuel-Borne Catalyst is continuously delivered to

the soot particles collected in the filter. The EOLYSsystem makes it possible to completely,

quickly and regularly burn out these particles at a lower light-off temperaturewithout

compromising the long-term integrity of the filter. Filter regeneration only takes two

to three minutes and happens automatically every 500 to 1,000 km.
