CaptiveAire

Energy Management SystemSaving Energy and Money Through Demand VentilationCaptiveAire’s Energy Management System (EMS) is a form of “demand ventilation,” in which exhaust and make-up airflow rates are both adjusted in direct relation to the cooking load. A temperature sensor in the hood/exhaust duct collar works with an electronic controller to modulate exhaust and make-up air fan speeds. Estimated energy savings, based on air volumes and idle periods, can range from 5-15% annually.

Factory Welded Grease Duct SystemEasy Installation And Maintenance, With No On-Site Cutting Or WeldingCaptiveAire’s Factory-Welded Grease Duct Systems are ETL-Listed to UL Standard 1978, and are ideal for use in kitchen ventilation applications where clearance to combustibles and temperature retention in the duct is not a factor. The Grease Duct is a single wall construction made from 430 stainless steel. CaptiveAire’s Grease Duct is easy to assemble and requires no on-site cutting or welding, so kitchen operators avoid unnecessary installation trouble and expense. Liquid tight grease duct systems are critical for proper fire protection.

Dedicated Make-Up AirEnergy Efficient Design to Keep Kitchen Staff ComfortableCaptiveAire offers a variety of dedicated make-up air options, including direct-fired heating and DX cooling. Tempering dedicated make-up air to temperatures respectively lower and higher than HVAC settings helps customers save on energy costs. Direct-fired burners allow flue gases to remain in the air stream and heat with increased efficiency. CaptiveAire’s direct-fired heaters are ETL-Listed and comply with ANSI 283.8-2006 standards.

Perforated Supply PlenumsMake-Up Air DeliveryCaptiveAire’s Perforated Supply Plenum (PSP) delivers make-up air where it is needed most, while minimizing the amount of air that diffuses into space. The PSP accessory saves energy because less make-up air is diffused into the kitchen, thus, decreasing the HVAC load and lowering operating costs. Providing up to 90% make-up air, the PSP accessory evenly distributes make-up air along the length of the hood though the perforated stainless steel diffuser plates.

Exhaust AirChanging the Way Air MovesCaptiveAire carries a wide breadth of exhaust air solutions to meet every application. One of those solutions is our Direct-Drive fans, which require less maintenance than belt-drive exhaust fans. CaptiveAire’s heavy duty, weather proof exhaust fans are constructed with a completely enclosed drive compartment which protects the fresh-air cooled motor and prolongs its life. Every unit comes with a standard emergency disconnect switch, and is ETL-Listed and AMCA-certified. CaptiveAire also carries utility sets (available for general duty, restaurant duty and high velocity restaurant duty), ceiling and inline fans, square inline and axial fans.

CaptiveAire’s System 10 is the complete solution to kitchen ventilation design. The new System 10 makes ventilation easy and consists of innovatively designed ventilation products to create a powerful, integrated package. We have engineered our system with sustainable green design concepts in mind to provide industry-standard, cost-effective solutions into the market. Our goal is to provide you with the highest quality ventilation products at the lowest cost.

Next Generation Exhaust HoodCaptiveAire’s Premium Commercial Kitchen Type I HoodThe aerodynamic design of CaptiveAire’s ND-2 exhaust hood ensures full capture and containment and lower exhaust CFM values; thus, providing an energy efficient system. ND-2 hoods are NSF and ETL-listed and comply with UL710 Standards.

Self Cleaning Hood SystemAn Automatic, Efficient Approach to Grease ExtractionCaptiveAire’s Self Cleaning Hood System is integrated into our premier canopy style ND-2 and SND-2 hood lines. The Hot Water Wash system automatically cleans the hood plenum after the cooking is done for the day. Washing the plenum with surfactant (surface-active agent that reduces the surface tension between the grease and water allowing the water to dissolve the grease), while the hood is still hot, considerably increases the effectiveness of the cleaning.

CORE ProtectionCreating Safe Kitchen EnvironmentsThe CORE Protection Fire System is a revolutionary fire suppression system, which is tested and listed in accordance with UL 300. By combining Ansul wet-chemical appliance coverage and a water-based injection system, CORE Protection provides maximized security and unparalleled defense against kitchen-related fires.

Captrate Solo & Combo FiltersRemoving Grease At The SourceBy extracting up to 90 percent of grease particles above one micron, CaptiveAire’s Captrate® Filter line proves to be the most effective means of grease extraction in commercial kitchen ventilation. The newly designed Captrate® Solo Filter features a single-stage S-baffle system while the Captrate® Combo Filter combines a second stage of packed ceramic media to deliver unparalleled efficiency for restaurant hood systems.

Pollution Control UnitThe Economical Solution to Delivering Clean AirThe CaptiveAire Pollution Control Unit (PCU) Series is designed specifically for the removal of smoke and grease particles from the air stream of commercial kitchen exhaust systems. The PCU includes a washable steel pre-filter and disposable, high efficiency (MERV 14) media filter. Additional smoke and odor control modules are available. The PCU Series is ETL-Listed and complies with UL710 Standards. The unit may be shipped in one piece or in sections to facilitate entry and installation.

SEALING OFF ANY OPEN DOORWAY WITH AIR BARRIER TECHNOLOGY IS JUST THE FIRST STEP TO EFFICIENT THINKING. With the cost of energy continuing to rise, heating and cooling bills for your building are a major expense. For businesses that have their doors opened frequently due to high traffi c volumes or even to offer an open and inviting business for passing foot traffi c (potential customers), these costs are even greater.

Properly selecting an Air Barrier that can create an effi cient and effective seal is as important as the decision to install the technology. We are a Canadian based manufacturer that designs and builds our units to perform in the toughest climates, hot or cold. We don’t take any shortcuts when it comes to quality.

There are varying Air Barrier concepts on the market claiming to be equal to the Enershield design criteria, but when comparing feature to feature they fall well short of anything that Enershield manufactures.

AIR BARRIER VS. HEATED AIR CURTAIN?Air Barriers should not be confused with a heated warm air curtain, whose primary design objective is to provide warmth at an open doorway. Without a proper seal over an open door, your expensively heated or air-conditioned air, along with the warm blast from a typical heated air curtain is immediately conveyed to the outside. A typical 5kw air curtain, operating 8 hours per day, 5 days per week will consume in excess of $1,500 of electricity per annum. Under the same conditions an Enershield unit will consume $90 of electricity per annum.

HOW AN AIR BARRIER WORKSEnershield Air Barriers create an effective seal on the doorway by re-circulating the facility air in a laminar (smooth) fl ow across an open doorway. The kinetic energy in the moving air generates a barrier, like a waterfall, that prevents leakage of air between two areas with different pressure and climate. The more laminar this air fl ow, the harder it is for outside air to penetrate the barrier.

SAVINGS AND COMFORTOpen doors account for a considerable amount of the energy loss in a building. A correctly installed Air Barrier can seal off an open doorway, and reduce the heat (and air conditioning) loss through the door as much as 90%, translating into substantial energy savings, as well as a more comfortable environment for both employees and customers – when employees are more comfortable, they tend to work harder, which results in increased productivity. When customers are more comfortable, they tend to stay longer and spend more, resulting in increased profi t!

Air Barriers are also benefi cial in certain manufacturing and packaging processes where a contaminant free atmosphere and/or temperature are critical.

Examples of applications

The first fabric diffusers in history were used in the food industry. Sanitary regu-lations require that all food processing devices must be easily and completely capable of being cleaned. Out of all the air distribution system options, this con-dition is only met by textile diffusers/ducting. They are perfectly clean after washing and the disinfecting agent also destroys what resists the antibacterial treatment. Fabrics made of endless fib-res, developed specially for the Prího-da‘s textile diffusers, are very smooth and thus do not allow sedimentation of impurities. This distinguishes them from the diffusers made of staple fibres that successively fill with dust and can re-present a sanitary risk.

For mainly high halls we can offer an air distribution system through a row of lar-ger holes or nozzles, as required. In any case, accurate air directing and distribu-tion as the customers wish will be possi-ble. Experience from practice confirms that textile ducting in a supermarket is a substantially better (more uniform) air distribution system than traditional systems. In addition, the costs on this are lower. A matter of course is the po-ssibility of various colour versions or dif-ferent distribution for various zones. For instance, for the cooled and heated sec-tion of the supermarket. Fire resistance of our fabrics conforms to the require-ments of all world standards.

Installations at various sport arenas are very typical for textile air distribution systems. For large sports halls is availa-ble a wide choice of directed distribution possibilities. On the contrary, cooling air dispersion at minimum speed will not be negatively perceived by fitness centre visitors. There are often low rooms where air distribution is always difficult. Semi-circular textile diffusers on a ceiling are the best solution in terms of both price and function. Installation of textile diffu-sers in swimming pool environments is almost given. The fabrics used, including installation material, are fully resistant to damp environment. Combination of different colours revives interior.

In large stockrooms, textile air distribu-tion systems provide uniform air dis-tribution, thus ensuring maintenance of stable temperatures. This is usually the essential requirement for storage of foodstuffs. If people have to work in an environment with low temperature, then they are usually very sensitive to draught. Inconvenient air distribution might cause higher sickness rate. Texti-le diffusers disperse air without causing draughts, and create an acceptable cli-mate.

Textile air distribution systems are a per-fect solution for any industrial branch. They provide uniform (draughtless) air distribution at unbeatably low costs, or enable directing of air per end user’s request. Over 100 hanging alternatives provide make it possible to choose a convenient solution for any situation, taking in consideration the construction of ceiling and other installation in the given production plant. Contaminated environments require the use of fabrics with larger holes (perforations, not micr-operforations).

Over 100 hanging alternatives provide make it possible to choose a convenient solution for any situation, taking in consideration the construction of ceiling and other installation in the given production plant. Contaminated environments require the use of fabrics with larger holes (perforations, not micr-operforations).

Space in kitchens is usually narrow, and their extreme load with heat and vapours requires highly intense ventilation. Textile diffuser disperses air uniformly, without creating draughts. Any directing of airflows is usually totally useless. The material used is resistant to vapours and its maintenance is (also thanks to small dimensions and low weight) very easy. Comparing the prices of stainless ceiling, the costs of our solution are much lower! Use of non-textile distributions systems fails the require-ment on ease and perfect cleaning that is necessary for sanitary reasons.

Higher aesthetical demands can be sa-tisfied by colourful and shape variabi-lity of textile air distribution systems. Correctly manufactured and perfectly installed textile diffusers become an elegant part of an interior. Air dispersion when using fabric distribution systems functionally equals cooling ceilings or joists. Comparing to those solutions, the price difference is huge even in best equipped textile diffusers. Unlike the tra-ditional diffusers, embedded in soffits, our solution does not cause any local heat discomfort. Experience has demon-strated that employees in such equally distributed and cooled offices are signi-ficantly more satisfied.

The benefits of using fabric distribution systems for cooling or heating of large scale tents or other temperature structures are entirely clear. A light roof structure can easily bear fabric ducting and diffusers weighing from 100 to 400 g/m2. Assembly is very quick, using supporting wires and hooks stitched onto the diffusers. Top quality material allows multiple repeated use. Cooling (heating) by means of a single larger source with connected textile air distribution system is much more economical than just cold (heat) blowing into a space. In case of heating without air distribution sys-tem the flow is bent upwards and the zone under the ceiling gets overheated which results in enormous heat loss. In cooling, intense airflow causes local undercooling and draughts; on the other hand, insufficiently cooled zones are created elsewhere. Both cases are successfully resolved by a properly designed textile air distribution system.

If permeable materials are used, the fabric functions as a filter for the part of the transferred air that goes through the fabric. As the fabric contamination gradually increases, the pressure loss grows and the air flow decreases. Therefore, it is necessary to wash the fabric. We consider the utilisation of perforated fabric to be by far the best solution. Although perforated fabrics do not function as filters they do not change the pressure loss value and the number of necessary washing procedures significantly drops. We are a manufacturer of distribution (not filtering) elements.

Use of plastic nozzles or longitudinal slots of sieve can be explained on historical basis. These tools used to enable directing of certain airflow, the nozzles in addition stiffened the burred margins of the holes. When they began to use laser technology that allows cutting of accurate holes with sealed margins, their utilization became useless. Rightly designed rows of holes fulfil the same purpose, whilst being cheaper and nicer. This is the reason why Prihoda s.r.o. need not use either slots or plastic nozzles and yet achieves the same air distribution.

We use permeable materials to avoid condensation in air distribution with temperature below the dew point of environment. However, we only have material of a single permeability value. It is very low and serves just to prevent condensation. For air distribution we use exclusively holes (perforation or microperforation or a combination of these). Our product portfolio includes also impermeable materials, use of which is often unavoidable.

5 / Can textile diffusers get mouldy?

Mould can form on any kind of material if it is moist and unventilated. This goes for fabrics with antibacterial treatment, too. It is caused by the fact that moulds are not bacteria. Therefore, never store moist diffusers packed-up or do not let them out of operation for long periods of time. Moulds cannot be removed from fabrics by any means.

Diffusers with micro-perforation and even diffusers with larger holes never get completely clogged by contamination (if used with minimum pre-filtration EU3). The maintenance (typically washing in a washing machine) is therefore necessary for hygi-enic and aesthetic reasons only. Each individual piece separable by a zipper contains a washing-instruction tag which contains sufficient instruction for washing. Our experience has proven that our fabrics made of endless fibres remain internally almost clean even after many years of operation.

Our specialities

The required air flow through the fabric is achieved by burning an exact number of tiny holes (approx. 0.4 mm) into the fabric. Such fabric, if pre-filtered to EU3 at least, does not change the pressure loss value and requires washing for aesthetic and hy-gienic reasons only.

The distribution of warm air into a room requires completely diffe-rent approach than the distribution of cold air. The membrane diffuser allows the switching between these two operation modes and thus enables effective heating and draught-free cooling.

Microperforation

Sequential and structured perforation, dampers

Tests and measurements proved that the layout of holes influences how the air spreads from the diffuser. We have developed special layouts of perforated holes ensuring more even air distribution. The static pressure progression along the diffuser (and therefore the air output) can be adjusted by utilising textile dampers.

Insulated textile ducting is used for passing through areas which are not air-conditioned. Insulation reduces the heat loss and at the same time serves as a noise silencer.

A very easy solution to achieve the furthest airflow reaches. Our philosophy is, that textile air distribution must be fully washable and therefore should contain as little non-textile elements as possible. Our textile nozzles are additionally equipped with a dam-per for potential airflow control, and can be delivered in a design allowing additional modification of directing (by turning).

Suspension systems

We have been constantly dealing with improvement of suspension system that contain tens of original solutions. From a special hook, useful for wires and also in profiles, through a complex system of aluminium profiles to tensioning systems or stiffeners for better look.
