History

The Library started with a truck

called a Bookmobile that would come

to Cashton once a week. A group of

people wanted books more often, so

they raised money to start a library. The

Torkelson Library has been in Cashton

for 20 years. It has been in its current lo-

cation for five years.

Goods or Services?

Cashton Memorial Library is a service.

You can check out books and movies

to borrow and then return them. You

can check out books for three weeks.

You can only keep a movie for one

week.

There are children and

adult books to check out.

Using Math

The librarian uses math to help her

know how much money she can spend

on books. She also needs to know how

to figure out the fines when people

keep the books too long.

Reading and Writing

The librarian needs to be able to read

stories and she needs to be able to

read on her computer to find books for

customers. She has to be able to write

on her computer to order books and to

write letters.

What If You Worked Here?

You would need to know your ABC’s

and numbers to keep the books in the

right order. You need to be able to

read with expression when you read

stories to the children. You must be or-

ganized, friendly, and be a good

speaker.

Interesting Facts ♦ The library has over 8,000 books, movies,

magazines, and newspapers

♦ Usually 25-30 people visit the library every

day that it is open

♦ The fine for late books is 10 cents a day

About the Project

The Cashton Elementary First Graders

visited many places in order to learn

about the goods and services our com-

munity provides to the people who live

here. A huge thanks to all of the busi-

nesses we contacted who graciously al-

lowed us to visit and learn. If you have
