History: The Cashton Building Supply opened in the

early 1900’s and was named Cashton Lumber

Company. Kevin Kirking has owned it for

almost 30 years.

Goods or Services? The Cashton Building Supply offers us goods.

They sell lumber, nails, screws and many other

supplies for building.

They also offer us a service by building decks,

sheds, garages, dog houses, and homes.

The forklift carries wood from the truck to

be piled in a shed until the customer

buys it.

Using Math The salesmen add up the cost of

supplies. They count money.

They also use math by adding the

weights of lumber together and

they use a tape measure to find

lengths of wood.

Reading and Writing The salesmen read labels on the

goods that they sell. They also

read and write down the orders

for their customers.

What If You Worked Here? You have to be friendly and nice.

You have to smile at your custom-

ers and use eye contact. You

need to be able to communicate

with your co-workers and your

customers.

You also need computer skills and

to be a logical thinker.

About the Project

The Cashton Elementary First Graders

visited many places in order to learn

about the goods and services our com-

munity provides to the people who live

here. A huge thanks to all of the busi-

nesses we contacted who graciously al-

lowed us to visit and learn. If you have
