Good Practices :-Good Practices :- Shifting of production volume to china(low labor cost) As an ODM, it was innovating and designing each new generations

components 16 meter assembly line - staffed by 10 operators(line function , exhibit 3) Each one responsible for the specific task in assembling the notebook Each operator had responsibility to select and count screws required for

assembly operations Double check process Encourage KAIZEN APPROACH- Workers idea - received financial bonus Assigned 2 dedicated “FLOATERS”(HIGHLY SKILLED WORKERS BY

CROSS TRAINED) “BURN-IN” test – before packaging for shipment Assembly lines were running smoothly – producing a netbook every 50

seconds

Page 3: Case 4

Bad Practices :-Bad Practices :-

Includes some non-standard operations in the assembly process

Supervisors were often engaged in “firefighting” Occasionally unsanctioned buffer inventories

were also accumulated between stations Some of the stations remain idle between work.

Page 4: Case 4

RECOMMENDATIONSRECOMMENDATIONSFLOATERS should be kept permanently

Temporary problems should be solved permanently (utilizing holiday )

Reduction in product design.( lessen screws , use plug system)

Increase stations in assembly line.
