SOGNO MEDITERRANEO VINTAGE: 2017 COMPOSITION: 60% Syrah 20% Mourvèdre 20% Grenache APPELLATION: IGT Toscana ALCOHOL: 14.0% by vol. AGING POTENTIAL: 10-12 years SERVING TEMP: 16˚C/60˚F summer 18˚C/64˚F winter EXPOSURE: South/West - North/East TYPE OF SOIL: Medium loam with well-weathered rock, rich in minerals and micro-elements with neutral pH DENSITY & PLANTING: 2,995 vines per acre, planted in 1999 PRUNING SYSTEM: Horizontal low spur pruned cordon YIELD: 3-4 tons per acre HARVEST: By hand between the first half of September and the second half of October VINIFICATION: Destemming is followed by light crushing of the grapes. Before fermentation grapes are chilled at 4°C for a few days. FERMENTATION: Fermentation and maceration takes place for 20 days in temperature controlled stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques without inoculation. AGING: In French oak barrels 40% new and 60 second use for 12-14 months, then 6 more months in bottle. TASTING NOTES: This wine is powerful, yet supple and elegant. The nose opens with intense red berry and cassis fruit highlighted by notes of dark chocolate and tobacco. Firm and silky upon entry, the palate is equally intense with chewy and sweet tannins and a very persistent finish with dark berries and sweet spices.
