Long Range Plan for Tech

The Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology (LRPT), 2006-2020 “directly supports the Mission of Texas Public Education by ensuring an engaging, relevant, and future-focused system…preparing each student for success and productivity as a lifetime learner, a world-class communicator, a competitive and creative knowledge worker, and an engaged and contributing member of the emerging global digital society.”

Purpose of STaR Chart

•Determine progress toward meeting the goals of the Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology, as well as district goals

•Assist in measuring efforts to improve student learning through technology use as specified in NCLB, Title II, Part D

• Identify needs for on-going professional development and raise awareness of research-based instructional goals

STaR Chart Data Collection

•Teachers are required to complete the STaR Chart survey online annually for federally mandated reporting

•The annual STaR Chart survey gauges progress toward integrating technology into the school and curriculum

•Teachers’ scores are averaged and taken into account when principal completes and submits Campus STaR chart to TEA

The Texas School Technology and Readiness (STaR) Chart has been developed based on the four key areas of the LRPT: • Teaching and Learning• Educator Preparation and Development• Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support• Infrastructure for Technology

Teaching and Learning Goals

To move toward Target Tech in Teaching and Learning, Carver and GISD staff should set goals to:

•Develop and implement exemplary lessons incorporating K-2 Technology Applications TEKS and model student-centered learning experiences

•Encourage and model the daily integration of existing technology and digital resources into regular classroom instruction

Educator Preparation Goals

To move toward Target Tech in Educator Preparation and Development, Carver and GISD staff should set goals to:

•Provide varied types professional development on technology integration

•In PD offerings, integrate strategies for promoting students’ higher-order thinking and participation in collaborative learning communities

Leadership Goals

To move toward Target Tech in Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support, Carver and GISD staff should set goals to:

•Develop a technology-rich Campus Plan including goals for online learning and annual technology benchmarks supported by campus funds

•Establish true teacher cadres including identified campus technology leaders to participate in technology integration learning communities

Infrastructure Goals

To move toward Target Tech in Infrastructure for Technology, Carver and GISD staff should set goals to:

•Arrange classrooms so the single computer in the room is accessible to and regularly used by students

•Decrease the student to computer ratio by funding and adding mobile technology solutions and add additional technologies as funds allow
