Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free

I’m following the path God has laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard his call,

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work, or play,

I found the peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joys.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life’s been full, I savored much,

Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch,

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and peace to thee

God wanted me now; He set me free.

The family of the late Willie C. Sims, Jr. would like to thank their family and

friends for the many acts of kindness so generously expressed during our time

of bereavement. Our loss is great, but we are comforted in knowing so many

care. May God bless each of you.

Willie Claude Sims, Jr., affectionately known as “Rick”, was born August 27,

1961 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of the late Willie Claude Sims, Sr.

and Gedell Thomas Sims.

He was educated in the public schools of Brooklyn. He was a hard worker,

even as a young man, working in grocery retail. He fell in love as a teenager

and fathered a son with Judith Cato (deceased).

During his adult years, he moved to Columbia, South Carolina where he

dedicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized. He was a faithful

brother and helped others wherever and whenever he could. He spent many

years residing at Dowdy’s Community Care Home, which he often boldly

declared, “This is my house!”

“Rick” was a quiet gentleman, a skillful and challenging chess player, as well

as a Kung Fu movie enthusiast. He particularly enjoyed the martial arts and

expertise of Bruce Lee. When he wasn’t watching Kung Fu movies, computing

lottery numbers, or playing chess, he dedicated his time to enjoying delicacies

of particular cuisines, notably Chinese food and most popular pancakes

drowned in syrup with bacon on the side, not to mention Thanksgiving

dinners.

Willie C. Sims, Jr. leaves to cherish fond memories, his son, Kevin Cato of

Chicago, Illinois; two grandsons; his loving mother, Gedell Thomas Sims of

Columbia, South Carolina; siblings: Sandra Deloris Sims of Columbia, South

Carolina, Mitchell Earl Sims of Utah, Donell Marie (Joe) Sims-Gantt of

Maryland, Rev. Wendell Curley (Cynthia) Sims of West Columbia, South

Carolina, Clay Allen Sims of Maryland, and Wilbert Stanley Sims, Sr. of

Columbia, South Carolina; two uncles, Louis (Betty) Sims of New Jersey and

Beuford (Odester) Sims of Newberry, South Carolina; three aunts: Mamie

Thomas of Texas, Leola (James) Glymph of Newberry, South Carolina, and

Sharon (Warren) Callahan of Greenwood, South Carolina; and a host of

cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
