At Lloyds Banking Group we all have something unique to offer – but we share a common purpose to make a positive difference to people, businesses and communities across the UK.

A diverse and inclusive workplaceLloyds Banking Group is committed to being an inclusive employer. Ours is a collaborative and open-minded culture that supports people every day in the workplace, and values the different skills, interests, backgrounds, perspectives and ideas of our people.

We have five colleague networks, such as our Breakthrough Women’s Network which is the largest of its kind in Britain and Reach, our network that supports colleagues from ethnic minority backgrounds. While each network has a different focus, all are open to anyone to join, and offer mentoring and career development services that help people unlock their potential.

We’ve also been recognised for our achievements in diversity. This includes being named one of The Times’ Top 50 Employers for Women for the sixth consecutive year and, for the first time, being named the Best Private Sector Employer at the 2017 Working Families Awards. We continue to be recognised as a leading employer by the Business Disability Forum, and offer a guaranteed interview scheme to all disabled candidates, too. And, we’re proud to be charity partners with and corporate members of a number of organisations, foundations, groups and networks.

“I stick to the facts and I’m good with figures, plus I have a mind like a filing cabinet – maybe that comes from studying Law.“I’m also a big reader and movie fan, and quick to pick up on storylines and details. My dad once gave me a novel about a woman who became leader of her country, and I remember thinking, ‘I want to be like her’. I’ve discovered I’m a people-person,

and I’m using this insight to develop the leadership style that suits me. It means I can be myself and inspire others to think strategically too.

When I’m asked to assess the risks in a particular part of our business, I put my strategic hat on. I organise the data, spot trends in the accounts, reach a conclusion about the business, then work with others on strategies for making it stronger.

“My life’s changing as fast as the digital world is. I’m constantly identifying trends and exploring new ideas – pioneering, innovating, communicating.“ Banks need to keep developing their technologies so that they can create the best digital experiences for their customers. It’s why I chose the digital sector for my career, even though I’m not a ‘techie’.

I actually studied Chinese and Politics, so I’m naturally inquisitive about what’s going on in the world and passionate about the languages and tools that people use to communicate. This is the reason the digital world excites me so much. It’s a communications revolution that’s helping everyone to bank in a more agile way.

My programme gives me the freedom to shape my own projects and the agility to mould my work schedule around my home life. I’m discovering my strengths as a leader and communicator too.

“I get satisfaction from seeing happy clients and knowing we’ve done a good job for them.“

My work is about relationships, and that includes the relationship with myself. I want to be the best I can be, but that doesn’t mean working unnecessarily long hours – it’s not like that here anyway. For me, I love challenging myself to perform better. I’m often looking to shave a few seconds off my runs, or arrive at meetings five minutes

early so that I can get to know my clients better as people.

In my programme I get masses of this from my mentor. He’s showing me that every situation is different, and that it’s important to structure, shape and present analysis with that individual client’s needs in mind. I’m discovering that this tailored approach leads to great relationships and better outcomes for our commercial clients.

Small and medium sized busi-nesses (SMEs) are the lifeblood of the British economy and they face multiple challenges – the volume of admin being one key frustration. Beyond the introduction of contactless pay-ments, innovations in payment technology have been limited. Until now. Lloyds Bank Cardnet

recently introduced Clover™, a cloud-based software and intelligent point-of sale-system that’s like a smartphone for running a business. Clover can help reduce the admin burden through a wide range of tools that help businesses operate more efficiently.

PEOPLE MAESTRO?People Maestros are crucial to our business, because people are the difference. Our business is only as successful and versatile as our people are. By taking care of everything from communication to training, People Maestros help us get the most out of our teams – and help our business to be the best it can be.

Self-assured, clear-headed and capable of building trust, they relish the creative challenges that come from working with others; helping individuals to learn new skills and our business to grow. You’ll partner with business leaders, learn about their needs and help them to achieve their business goals through their people. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop your people management and leadership skills in areas outside of HR.

“ WORK, LIFE, COMMUNITY – IT’S POSSIBLE TO STRIKE THE RIGHT BALANCE HERE.“

– SAKINA PEOPLE MAESTRO

“It’s natural to want a reasonable work-life balance – the team here understands this.“ HR is about building a strong community of colleagues, enabling them to do their jobs well, rewarding them fairly, supporting them in developing their careers and the way they work. It’s also about ensuring our business succeeds. Our people strategy takes understanding on all sides. I work closely with teams across the organisation to shape

thinking and inspire colleagues to perform even better in their jobs.

My approach is communicative and flexible. Flexibility is especially important for me because I have two little ones. Obviously I have to fit my work commitments around them, and my managers and mentor are very supportive of this, but I can structure my days so that my children get more time with me. I can even fit in the charity fundraising I do outside of work.

Applicants to our Graduate Leadership Programme are put to the test by completing a range of tasks in different virtual worlds. This innovative technology enables us to present situations that wouldn’t

be possible in conventional assessment processes. Candidates have complete freedom of movement within a 360-degree virtual world and can move virtual objects using tracked motion controls. And since we’re looking for digitally minded people, it’s been great to see who’s excited about using it too. For some people, it’s reason enough to apply!
