As we work towards the future development and investment in our region, we welcome the opportunityto work together with the Department of Defence to determine opportunities for the

I future and take advantage of the development and infrastructure already available. 1 The Rockhappton Region is transforming into a major economic and lifestyle hub for the broader I

Central Qu&nsland region with the City of Rockhampton being one of two key regional logistical centres outside of the south east comer in Queenstand. The region has established logistic I frameworks and collaboration from local enterprises that haw demonstrated continued support to Australian Defence Force needs and coalition level defence activities over the past 40t years. b Section 2 - Regional Assets

Airport

Rodchampton has one ofthe most highly serviced regional airports in Australia, accommodating more than 750,000 passengers in the last 12 months and catering for extensive Australian. Singaporean, and US Defence needs Facilities include d o m k and freight terminals, and operations for aircraft including 8747.B777, A340, and the capabilky to handle up to Alrbus A380 aircraft and heavy IM Antonov 124 heavy Freighter.

The airport k one of only three regional airpons highlighted as nationally significant (along with Townsville and Port Headlad) for the fuhwe of Aumalla's National Frelght Network. The airport provldes secure workshops and other faciltks fiw defence and aerospace Industries, with scope for expansion to accommodate additional activities Compared to other regional airponfadlltles such as A lbw (300.000 passewen) and TownntHle ( I dm passe-), ~odchampkn Is demonstrating an abillty to cakr for contlnwd growth on its multiple runways and platfomrs. It provides valuable international heavy-lift air fielght capabilities, senrkes to vMting military almft and offers extensive domestic and freight flights.

The Rodchampton atrport has hosted many ADF and international military alrcraft over the years and in ddng so has been required to undertake various tasks In support ofexerclses. This has included aircraft parking and refuelling facilities, hamk and AQIS facilities, and the storage of explosive ordnance (including rearming bays). Dixussions held airport management identif~ed a proposal to invest approximately S2m in the creation of dedicated military operations precinct that will provide the ADF a dedicated fuel and rearming points that would servke rotary wing aircraft (apache, cobra and ASliger) and fastjets (F15, F16 and F18). The proposed new precinct would allow for all mllltary operations to wexist in one 1ocation.Thii would Improve the ef%dency of military exerdses and operations while perrnittlng the Airport to effectively utilise all of in civilian assets with minimal interruption. The precinct would also make provisions for contractm and other support agendes to co-locate during increased military periods.

The woximlw of such a facility to Wool (for ammunition distribution) and SWBTA would benefit all vlsking defe"ce & through red& lnloglstic support costs and increase defwe activity within the ~eg ion thmugh localbed support agreements. and potential inducements for Defence primes such as Wng, BAE ~ysteis, Australian h p a c e etc

Port of Gladstone can accommodate vessds up to 220,000 dead weight tonnes (DWT) and will facilitate the arrival of over 1200 vessels per annum. Expansion work for Gladstone is being

A pre-feasibility study is currently being progressed by an I

Port Alma

Port Alma Shipping Terminal is located 62km east of Rockhampton on the southern tip of the Fltzroy I

Berths 1 and 2 are linear berths that have a concrete deck 18.5 metres wide and total 290 metres long (554 feet). The berth is constructed to take a super-imposed weight of 2.73 tonnes per square metre (5 hundredweight per square foot). Up to 1500 tonnes of Class 1 explosives

I m This capacity to handle these quantities of ammonium nitrate and explosives Is amongst the highest in Australia and therefore provides an appropriate conklor for the Import or export of these cargoes. The Queensland Government Explosives Reseweand magazine Is located at Bajool, only 26 kilometres from the port. Approximately 300 containers of military explosives imported into Australia over the past four years haw all been lamled at Port Alma. F'riar to Commonwealth acqulsitlon in 1965, SWBTA consisted of a number of pastoral 1eases.k Area is surrounded by a variety of land uses including local government roads, State Forests, National Parks and pastoral properties.

SWBTA b an important asset for Defence as a suitable venue for effectively integrating Mue water naval f o ~ e s with comparable air and land assets. It is the only economically viable location that allows large- scale Jolnt and combined exercises where most weapon systems can be employed and Integrated wlth Nveammunltlon Many aaivities necessary for the development of alllances and multilateral Defence agreements, commonly involving Defence forces ofthe United States, New Zealand and the Republic of Singapore, are conducted in SWBTA.

The Australian Defence Force WF) has used the Rockhampton ~ e g h for training purposes since the 1960s when the S W A was bought as a primary training area for up to furmation, jolnt and coalition level' exerdses. A permanent Exerdse Staging and Support Base has been established in Roddrampton to

It is also anticipated that the SAF will store Leopard tanks In the Region to further reduce transport costs. PIQ Logistics has demon- that a regional defence support rnodd is manageable, regardless of the exercise fluctuatlom and seasonality, providing a readily
