There will be games for children including making a garden on a plate, food stalls, music, dancing. There will be a hat competition with a prize going to the person with the best Home Grown themed hat! Among other things Canning and Clyde are doing the bubbles for children. Please are you able to help? We need four people, i.e. two at the same time doing a two hour shift, to take turns helping children with bubbles and watching the bouncy castle – if there is one; this year young bouncing people will be restricted to four at a go for a shorter period of time. We could also do with people to help set up on the day from 9.30 am. Any help appreciated. PAGE 2 - YOUR RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING BBQ Event of the year! Your right to know and express your view – local traffic AS WE HAVE REPORTED, WE WERE TOLD BY OUR LOCAL COUNCILLOR, Mark Watson, last summer that he and the other two Addiscombe Councillors would be consulting residents - implication was all local residents - in Autumn 2014 about possible changes to traffic management in our area. This did not happen. Instead we learnt that the proposal for a one-way system in Lebanon Road was put to the Traffic Management Committee on 3 March 2015. To see the proposals online, go to the Croydon and Democracy(irony!) pages of www.croydon.gov.uk. We can print off a copy for residents without internet access. The Council is going through the process of recommending to make Lebanon Road one-way so motor vehicles will travel only from the direction of Leslie Park Road to Addiscombe Road with no entry from Addiscombe Road. Cyclists will still travel both ways. The Council document states, ‘The introduction of one-way workings may increase traffic on surrounding roads’ without naming specifically Addiscombe Court, Tunstall or Canning Roads. Estimated cost is £20,000. We have been told the Council will 'consult' on the recommendation. We have received unclear messages about who will be consulted. The Council document states, ‘Local residents who live on the roads where the one-way workings are proposed will receive a set of informal consultation documents’ implying it will only be Lebanon Road residents. One of the Council Officers has subsequently informed us this is the first stage of the process. There will be a more formal consultation probably over the summer. We will keep an eye on things so everyone has an opportunity to know what is happening and contribute their own view. Despite the way Croydon Council has chosen (for whatever reason) to proceed over this issue, we would still encourage residents to express their own views. You can email our Councillors and the Council Officers responsible at

Cllr Mark Watson [email protected] Cllr Patricia Hay-Justice [email protected] Cllr Sean Fitzsimons [email protected] Sue Ritchie [email protected] Russell Birtchnall [email protected]

It would be helpful please if you could copy us (c/o [email protected]) with your email so we can have as accurate a picture as possible of the overall view from Canning and Clyde residents. Those without email can pop your views through the door of 42 Canning Road, Flat 3. Please also take part in Croydon Council's online survey on this proposal at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LebanonRoad

We have spoken with a variety of residents and believe that something needs to be done about traffic locally but do not think the Council has gone about this in the best way or come up with an adequate overall solution. We continue to suggest a holistic, long-term approach to traffic management in our wider area based on reliable statistics. This will be all the more important with the various actual and proposed developments in Croydon.

THANK YOU TO OUR LOCAL COUNCILLOR, MARK WATSON, for arranging for the bin by Canning Rd bus stop (Addiscombe Rd) to be emptied more often.

Annual Residents Meeting Thursday 11 June, 7.15 for 7.30 pm start Edward Jobson Court, Canning Road

All residents are welcome to enjoy the hospitality offered by our neighbours at Edward Jobson Court. The first part of the evening will give residents an opportunity to voice their opinions on things that are of interest to both themselves and others. We are inviting our elected representatives: Greater London Assembly Member, Councillors and MP. The second part of the evening is for chatting and getting to know neighbours; we’ll have drinks and finger food. It’s an enjoyable way to meet people. We have a committee of four. If you would like to join us to contribute ideas and be willing to speak in a way that represents residents’ views, you would be very welcome!

Fraudster – be aware

The conwoman is out of prison. Since then she has already tried to elicit money from a Clyde Road resident. She either approaches someone in the street or knocks on their door, often in the middle of the night. She makes out that someone in her family is ill, in hospital or arrested; she needs to get to them; she generally asks for a lift hoping someone will give her money instead. She is in her 30s with large, dark eyes. To see a photo and find out more, do an internet search on East London Lines July 2014 Croydon fraudster. For those who do not have internet access, Anne can print off a copy.

Estate agent boards – guidelines to which estate agents should adhere

We know some neighbours find these a bug bear. Those who do may be interested in the following information from a local estate agent:

“ … the last thing we want to do is aggravate the local residents.

We do try and work with the local authority and try always to work strictly within our industries guide lines and rules : ie : you can have a board during marketing and up to 14 days from date of completion of the execution of a tenancy.

… please feel free to contact me anytime.
