Thank you for your interest in Central Baptist College. CBC is a wonderful, unique campus – large enough to offer a variety of education and extracurricular activities, yet small enough to provide one-on-one interaction and a strong sense of community. Since the institution’s inception in 1952, our mission has been “transforming lives through education that integrates Christian faith and academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment.” Everyone at CBC is united in our dedication to achieve this goal.

Located in Conway, CBC students enjoy easy access to nearby Little Rock yet reside in the friendliness and security of a small town. Conway is home to multiple institutions of higher learning, a thriving business environment, scenic lakes and parks, and a vibrant community.

This is an exciting time on campus and we would love for you to be a part of it! Schedule your campus visit today, so that we can share what experience and education mean here at CBC.

If you decide to attend college in Conway, Arkansas, the Off Campus guide will help you

navigate the “City of Colleges” and discover some hidden gems in and around your future

college town. Whether you come from a big city, the country, or somewhere in between, you’ll

find Conway to be the perfect place to call your home away from home.

So what makes Conway stand out?

Keep reading to learn more aboutwhat Conway has to offer.

2016 Population Estimate: 65,300

More than a third of Conway residents have a bachelor’s degree or higher

3 Colleges

Median Age: 27.9

Population 25 Years and older: 35,552

(and counting)Conway’s population more than doubled from 1990 to 2010. Our city continues to grow and thrive – and for good reason.

Another by-product of graduates staying in Conway after they earn their degrees is the positive effect it has on the city’s educational attainment rate – a term that refers to the highest level of schooling a person has completed. Of adults over the age of 25, 45% have a college degree and 37% have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher.

While a place with more than 65,000 people is nothing to sneeze at, it is uncommon for a city our size to have not one, not two, but THREE colleges. So much so, that Conway’s nickname is the “City of Colleges.”

Central Baptist College, Hendrix College, and the University of Central Arkansas contribute to Conway’s rich arts and cultural scene – and help keep us young.

If you think back to your elementary math classes, you may recall that the median is the number in the middle. When it comes to the ages of Conway’s residents, our median age is not even close to 30 ( just ask any

27-year-old). One reason is because students from Conway’s three colleges love this city so much they decide to stick around

after graduation and take a job here.

For comparison’s sake, the median age for the entire state of Arkansas is 37.7 – 10 years older.

Central Baptist College officials announced in September 2017 that the college has started the construction of a 4,000-square-foot renovation of the Harold E. Cooper Educational Complex. The remodel, anticipated to be completed by the start of the Spring 2018 semester, will include a new Band Rehearsal Hall. The 2,600-square-foot new Band Rehearsal Hall is designed to accommodate up to 75 student musicians. Additionally, new office space dedicated to the Music and Fine Arts Department will be included in the renovations. “This is really an exciting time for us,” said Fine Arts Department Chair and Director of Bands Tim Gunter. “We are quickly running out of room and flexibility in our current location. I am so thankful for President Kimbrow for his tireless efforts on our behalf and to the Lord for His perfect timing and opening this door.”

Gunter noted, “The band hall will provide our current and future band family a place to call home, not just for rehearsals and classes, but throughout the day to hang out. That is a positive impact that is often overlooked, but I have had many students comment over the years about the comfort of our band halls and how much it meant to them.”CBC band started in the fall of 2016 with 14 students. It is anticipated that the size of the program will more than double to 30 students for the fall of 2017. Gunter added, “Our band program may have officially started in the fall of 2016, but with the addition of a band rehearsal hall, we are off and running. I am so thankful and excited about the road ahead!”Prior to his role at CBC, Gunter served as Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for 15 years.

Central Baptist College athletic director Lyle Middleton and head wrestling coach Ken Prophete announced the opening of a new wrestling center for the Mustangs this summer. The center was the site of a grand opening in September.

“Words alone cannot express how grateful and thankful I am about the new wrestling center,” said coach Prophete. “Entering into my eighth season as the head wrestling coach at CBC, it has been a recruiting promise to my wrestlers that we will have (a) bigger and better (space) and this 2017-18 season we will fulfill that promise.”

The center, which measures 3,750 square feet, is on Jeanette Drive in Conway. The underwriting sponsor for the project was Greg Hatcher of The Hatcher Agency, and CBC’s wrestling team will have the building on a three-year lease.Prophete added, “It is a blessing and I give all the glory to God for placing the right people to help make this dream a reality. We plan to make the best of our new opportunity this season in our new wrestling center.”Wrestling season for the Mustangs begins on Nov. 4 in Cumberland, Ky., at the Patriot Open. The first match at Reddin Fieldhouse is Nov. 9 against Arkansas Baptist College.

Drills.Fire drills are conducted at least once a semester in the residence halls. Tornado drills happen once per year.

Campus security.CBC employs campus security officers who work at key hours at night, seven days a week, to patrol the campus.

Planning and preparedness.CBC has adopted emergency evacuation and crisis management plans. Both can be found in the student handbook.
