On behalf of the Pathways of Hopes Board of Directors, our dedicated staff, tireless volunteers and the homeless and hungry we serve, I want to thank you for your generous donation of $100.00 for the Bed and Bag Matching Fund. Thank you for your help in supporting our programs. The members of the Outreach Ministry, are most grateful for our congregations support of this ministry, and so many other ministries in the community and the world.

New Study Begins Sunday The Parlor Class will begin a new course of study this Sunday at 9 A.M. It is Embracing Spiritual Awakening. It features presentations by Diana Butler Bass, with conversation from a group of persons who heard her presentations live and responded to them under the leadership of Tim Scorer. He has written a students book to help all involved in our discussion of the taped presentations to retain the information on the DVD. The students book costs $13. Well see the first taped presentation this Sunday, the theme of which is Waking Up. Well respond to what we hear following the showing of the DVD and then devote our class time on April 19 to a more in-depth discussion of this first theme. Since we will devote two sessions to each of the five topics in this course, well be using it over a ten-week period of time. If youd like to be part of this course of study, join us this Sunday morning at 9 A.M. in Chapman Lounge. The other four topics to be addressed in this series are, in order, Believing, Behaving, Belonging, and Awakening. The Parlor Class,Ed Linberg, Facilitator We Reached Our Goal! With gifts totaling $1,265 received on Easter Sunday, we reached the goal set for the Easter Offering on the nose. Our goal was $1,350 and that is exactly the amount we received! Who would have ever imagined wed receive that exact amount? Certainly none of the members of the Outreach Ministry who set that figure for the goal for the Easter Offering. We are most grateful for your generous gifts for the Easter Offering. They will support of the work of the General Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) across the US and Canada, as well as around the world! The Outreach Ministry

Crop Hunger Walk Set For April 26

The 2015 CROP Hunger Walk is set for Sunday, April 26 at 1 P.M. It will begin and end on the Plaza just east of our Fellowship Hall on Wilshire Avenue. The walk is approximately 3.5 miles and goes south to Orangethorpe on Harbor, goes west to Highland, turns north to Chapman, with a slight jog west to go by Pathways of Hopes Distribution Center near Richman School, and then comes back east to Highland, north to Chapman and east to Harbor, South to Wilshire and east back to the Plaza. Walkers of all ages are welcome. There will be prizes for the three children or youth who raise the most money, as provided by the Fullerton Interfaith Ministerial Association which sponsors this annual event. To sign up for the Fullerton CROP Hunger Walk, speak to either Phil Forbes or Randy Langston after worship. They will give you a Walkers Packet for you to use in recruiting sponsors who will support your efforts in the CROP Hunger Walk. At present, these members of our congregation have taken packets and they would welcome your support: Ed Linberg, Donna Woodbridge, Phil Forbes. Our team is registered online so you can support them by making a donation online. To do this, go to www.cwsglobal.org. go to Get Involved, arrow over to Crop Hunger Walk, click on CA on the map, scroll down to Fullerton Crop Walk, click on it, then click on donate, click on support a team, click of First Christian Church, Fullerton and either donate or join the team. If you want to write a check, it should be made payable to: CWS/CROP and given to the individual you want to support. Of course, cash will always work, too. Our congregation has a long and strong tradition of support for the CROP Hunger Walk. We are most grateful for this rich history of support of hungry people at home and around the world. We remind you that 25% of what is raised through our local CROP Hunger Walk will come back to Pathways of Hope to support their ministries right here in Fullerton as well as in North Orange County.

Generations of Sweet Peas On Easter Sunday our altar was graced by a Cross decorated with sweet peas grown entirely by members of our congregation.

Tradition has it that at an undisclosed yesteryear Mary Ruth Beal once conceived the idea of having a sweet sea cross for Easter, then for many years Scott Brill grew the flowers and constructed it (assisted by such able gardeners as the late Bob Rill, whose 20' row of rich composed leaves provided large, fragment sweet peas and Jim Bailey, who made supplemental sweet peas available from Centennial Farms at the Orange County Fairgrounds. Many others also deserve credit for their contributions to this beautiful design. If there is a "church historian" out there who can complete this story, please tell us the rest of it! This year, a new generation carried forward this long-standing tradition. Every sweet pea on the cross was grown by our own members in their gardens. We wish to thank: Amber Angulo, Jeanne Tarbell, Marguerite Beal, Ada Rodman, Ed Linberg, as well as Scott Brill and Barry Woodbridge for growing this year's sweet peas. Reflection on continuing older ministries through new generations: Sweet peas may represent a "fragrant offering" to the Lord (see II Cor. 2:15). As a church, there are some traditions that speak across generations to our community inside and outside FCC. These we can learn to do even better and perhaps even more efficiently at times, and we so welcome a new generation coming forward to perpetuate them as a viable ministry and service. We also have to be aware of some traditions which perhaps do not communicate to a new generation (especially outside the walls of our church) the way they once did to all of us "insiders" who treasure them. As we grow in our sense of genuine invitational Discipleship, we also need to be ready to find completely new and different expressions of following Jesus -- ones which may needed if we are to invite and assimilate a new generation to follow our paths of the Christian experience. May God honor all we have been, and guide us into all we are yet to become!

Concerning The Mission Trip To Loveland, Colorado The Mission Trip to Loveland, Colorado is a little less than two months from now. We have six members of our congregation signed up to be part of this Mission Trip. They are: Tom Beck, Claire Keach, Dirk McCuen, David and Amy Styffe, plus Craig Wallace. Each of them has been asked to turn in their registration form and their skills assessment sheet by this coming Sunday, plus the $75 registration fee. Checks for the registration fee should be made payable to First Christian Church. Well send one check to cover the total cost of the registration fee for those who are participating in this ministry. Craig Wallace has already purchased round trip airfare packages for the group. Participants need to reimburse Craig for their individual airfares. We can add people to this group between now and Sunday, May 10. If youd like to be part of this ministry, speak to Ed Linberg ASAP so you can secure a registration packet and pay your $75 registration fee. When we know the final number of participants in this Mission Trip, we will make a decision about the amount of support that will go to each participant from the Disciples Volunteering Fund that has been created to encourage our members to be part of Mission Trips. These funds were generated from donations given at last Novembers Alternative Christmas Faire, plus contributions for individuals who think it is important for us to give our members opportunities to be involved in hands-on Mission Trips. The Outreach Ministry

Another Mission Trip In 2015? We are looking at the possibility of

participating in a Mission Trip in conjunction with the Society of Saint Andrew in October. In case youre not sure who they are, they are the folks from whom we secured our daily devotional resources for the just completed season of Lent. They are dedicated to eliminating hunger in our country by involving volunteers in gleaning fields and orchards and making the foodstuffs they glean available to local food banks and hunger ministries in the US. Most of their gleaning events are scheduled for the south and the east, though they are hoping to expand their ministry to more parts of the country. The Mission Trip we are considering is set for the weekend of October 2-4 in Newcastle, Virginia. It will involve picking apples at orchards in that area, which is about 30 minutes from Roanoke, Virginia. If you have any interest in this potential activity, please talk about this with Ed Linberg, Chair of the Outreach Ministry right away. To give further information about the Society of Saint Andrew, an official partner of our denominations Week of Compassion ministry, we have a DVD about their work that we will make available for viewing in the coming weeks. Watch for an announcement about a date for the showing of this DVD so you can learn more about this important ecumenical ministry in which we Disciples have the opportunity to be involved.

General Assembly is Coming The 2015 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples

of Christ) is set for July 18-22 in Columbus, OH and planning is well underway. If you've been before, youll find a bounty of new worship experiences and learning tracks. If youve never been, there is a website with a wealth of information, including a page just for you. Go to ga.disciples.org to see the schedule, workshop offerings and register online. Early registration is April 1.

Registration Forms Are Available If youd like to register for the

2nd Annual Senior Adult Retreat of the Pacific Southwest Region, set for May 19-20 at Loch Leven, you may pick up a registration form from the counter in the Church Office. The registration form gives all of the details about this event as regards time, place and cost involved. What it doesnt tell you is that the keynote speaker will be Doug Edwards from the be.group, formerly known as Presbyterian Homes of Southern California. He will address what it means for Seniors to live in the third-half of life. What it also doesnt tell you is that John Towey, a fine actor from First Christian Church, North Hollywood, will entertain those attending this event with his one-man show, Travels With Charley, based on John Steinbecks book. Something very important it does tell you is that this event will be held in the newly refurbished Campbell Lodge at Loch Leven, a project that was completed last fall after decades of dreaming about it. For more information about this retreat speak to Ed Linberg who is coordinating it for the Older Adult Ministry Committee of the PSW Region.

Loch Leven News Most of you are aware of our Camp and Conference Center located

Photo by Mike Christman in the San Bernardino Mountains just outside of Redlands. The Outdoor Ministries Committee of the Pacific Southwest Region puts out a quarterly newsletter. If you would like to read the whole newsletter it is on the counter in the office. Here are a few excerpts from the Spring newsletter with opportunities to support the camp: Put your mark on Loch Levenliterally. You can purchase engraved rocks that will be used as steps and retaining walls replacing old railroad ties around the camp. An engraved rock costs $125. Contact Sloan Hamilton, Camp Manager, to purchase a rock for yourself or for a fellow Loch Leven lover! Like Loch Leven on Facebook and share with your friends. Become a monthly donor. Every dollar has a major impact on keeping Loch Leven strong. Contact Sarah at [email protected] for more information. Plan a visit to Loch Leven. Come and enjoy the camp with a group of friends or family. Campbell Lodge has been renovated and is not available for retreats, family reunions, etc. For current rates and information, contact Sloan Hamilton at 909-794-2507 or lochleven @disciplespswr.org A master plan for Loch Leven was recently created to guide the development of resources and facilities for years to come. The plan recognizes that Loch Leven is a special place where people are renewed, mind, body and spirit. This renewal comes through time away alone or with each other to recreate or reconnect with God in its beautiful mountain environment. The special places that mean so much will be preserved and enhanced so that community and connections can be experienced over and over through generations to come. If you would like more information on this project, email info @ lochleven.org
