Dear Senior Legislators:
Welcome to our 30th Anniversary Legislative Session of the California Senior Legisla-ture (CSL). I look forward to working with you as we strive to improve the quality of life for aging Californians. We will have a very productive Annual Legislative Ses-sion to begin our 2010-2011 year. Enjoy the coming year as you volunteer your time in serving as a Senior Assembly Member or Senior Senator.
Thank you for making the past year such a rewarding experience as we focused on the many tasks needed to make our legislative efforts successful. The hard work of CSL members, friends, and volunteers was sincerely appreciated as we met many of our goals to make life better for all seniors. I would like to personally thank Gov-ernor Schwarzenegger, the California State Legislators, and their staffs for support-ing and recognizing the efforts of the California Senior Legislature. The success and achievements of the CSL are made possible by their support and your dedication and hard work in addressing senior issues.
The CSL continues to create and expand our relationships with other senior orga-nizations and our retired members. By working together we continue to be more effective in helping those less fortunate than ourselves. Although I am a relatively new member of the California Senior Legislature, I have enjoyed serving as your Joint Rules Committee Chair this year. STAY FOCUSED AND REMAIN ACTIVELY INVOLVED AS WE STRIVE TO CREATE NEW LEGISLATION THAT WILL BENEFIT OLDER CALIFORNIANS!
Very Truly Yours,
Senior Assembly Member Richard Dahlgren, ChairJoint Rules Committee

While we have listed some of those who make these contributions, there are many, many others who help not only during the CSL Legislative Session, but also throughout the year. Our deepest gratitude goes to all of these individuals.

Senior Senator Lenwood Long served in the Marine Corps from 1948 to 1957 and was mayor of Perris from 1994 to 1996. A strong advocate for seniors, he served on the River-side County Offi ce on Aging advisory council. He joined the California Senior Legislature (CSL) in 1997 and has been on the Legislative Committee for several years.
In many of the comments made by various CSL members the word “gentleman” was included over and over. His intelligent, witty comments and friendliness will be missed by many. He truly believed that we were put on this earth to help others and had a strong belief in God. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his wife, Gola.

Jerry Meade was a CSL member since 2004 and was an alternate on the Joint Rules Committee. Jerry’s wife, Georgia, volunteered every year during the CSL ses-sion and in his memory she will volunteer during this anniversary session. Jerry was active in civic affairs in California on local, county and state levels. He was awarded “2008 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMIS-SIONER OF THE YEAR” in the State of California. He was a 30 year volunteer in his church. Jerry was an avid wood worker and an excellent cook, and above all else, he was devoted to his family. Jerry was truly loved by all!
C4A looks forward to CSL having another successful year of advocacy
on behalf of older Californians.

We believe 60is the new 30.
Sure, Kaiser Permanente has been around for nearly 60 years.
But that doesn’t mean we show our age. We’re always coming
up with new ways to help you feel better. Like preventive health
programs, expanded medical offices, advanced information
systems, and more. It’s all part of the innovative approach
we’ve brought to health care since 1943. And from the look of
things, we’re just getting better.

Ruth Hoppin is a free lance writer and independent re-searcher. Her articles on religious and general interest topics have been widely published.Ruth has presented papers on Priscilla’s authorship of Hebrews at regional conferences of the Society of Biblical Literature and is a contributor to the InterVarsity Press Women’s Bible Com-mentary and A Feminist Companion to the Catholic Epistles and Hebrews (T&T Clark). Active in her church and her community, Ruth is a Director of Friends of the Daly City Library.
Paperback, 208 pages, $15.00 Also available in Spanish: La Carta de Priscila: Encontrando el Autor de la Epístola a los Hebreos (tr., P. Benjamin Alfaro). Order from major book distributors or Lost Coast Press, www.cypresshouse.com, toll free 1-800-773-7782.
Ruth Hoppin tracks down every clue to contend that Priscilla, the teacher of Apollos and co-worker of Paul, wrote the New Testament epistle to the Hebrews. Resurfacing after it was secretly taken out of print just weeks after publication, Priscilla’s Letter takes Harnack’s hypothesis of 1900 into the 21st century with new evidence and a compelling line of reasoning. Recognition of Priscilla’s claim will increase our understanding of the early church and elevate the social and religious status of all women.

“Priscilla’s Letter, by Ruth Hoppin, (is) a formidably documented and unbelievably plausible argument that the Epistle to the Hebrews was written by St. Paul’s friend and coworker Prisca.”― Fergus Kerr, O.P. (Dominican), Editor,
New Blackfriars
“A thoughtful, detailed set of arguments for Priscilla as the author…Hoppin’s work represents thorough, carefully focused research on that issue.”
— Dr. Fred Kellogg, Professor of Religion, Emory & Henry College, Virginia
“I, who love mysteries (like Agatha Chris-tie’s), and thirst to know more about the people and times of the Bible, read this book from cover to cover with fascination…I was delighted with the statement of the case and the clues.”
