Kana Pipeline has manyongoing jobs throughoutSouthern California. Presently, they have a wide variety ofprivate residential, commercial/industrial, and public worksproject types. The type of workfluctuates depending on the

availability of work that is outthere to bid. Its cyclical, saysLocke.

It is necessary for Kana Pipelineto maintain a good handle ontheir heavy equipment usage, especially with so many projectsgoing on at the same time.Peter Smith is the EquipmentManager for Kana Pipeline,Inc. and he has his hands

    full assuring that his crews

are equipped with the rightmachine for each individualapplication. We rent nearlyas much as we own, althoughwe have expanded our fleet ofheavy equipment and truckssubstantially in 2013, saysSmith. It is our intentions toexpand our fleet as least asmuch as we did in 2013 andpossibly more if we continue togrow at the same rate.

Kana Pipeline, Inc. currentlyhas (13) backhoes, (4) wheelloaders and (7) excavators intheir fleet. contractors standup and takenotice, says Smith. Werecently purchased a newLiuGong 936D excavatorand two LiuGong CLG856-3wheel loaders from Westrax

Machinery and we also justreturned from a trip to LiuGongsmanufacturing plant, wherewe took a tour of the LiuGongfacility in Liuzhou, GuangxiProvince in southern China. Wewere very impressed with theirstate-of-the-art facility and theiremphasis on quality.

LiuGong has a total of 24manufacturing facilitiesworldwide, more than 12,000

employees, more than 400dealers across six continents,2,650 sales outlets and haveinvested more than $81 millioninto their R&D program in 2012alone. To properly support theirproduct line, LiuGong maintains12 parts depots locatedstrategically throughout theworld. They now have 14 productlines available including

wheel loaders, excavatorstruck mounted and crawlercranes, bull dozers, rollers, motor graders, forklifts, mini excavators, skid steers, backhoe loaders, pavers, cold

planers, concrete equipmentand mining dump trucks.Dennis McShane fromWestrax Machinery approachedme with the LiuGong line acouple of years ago. Dennis,Westrax and A.S.A.P HeavyEquipment Rental are allwell-known trusted names inSouthern California. I haveknown and trusted Dennis formany years and that is why

I agreed to rent a LiuGongexcavator and two LiuGongwheel loaders from A.S.A.P(Westrax Machinerys RentalDivision) for an extendedperiod of time in order to trythem out, says Smith. Ouroperators commented rightaway on the tremendousstrength and maneuverabilityof the LiuGong machines. The

controls took some gettingused to and when the decisionwas made to purchase theLiuGongs, we bought themwith more conventionalcontrols. It was nice to have

that option.Kana Pipeline, Inc. is expecting

fairly dramatic growth in 2014and will most likely continue toexpand their heavy equipmentinventory. Dennis McShanewas able to put together a veryattractive package for us. Theprice point on these machinesallows us to acquire almost twomachines for the price of oneof the leading competitors.

This means a lot to us as welook forward to a busy andprofitable 2014.
