WMO OMMGlobal Societal Needs
• Global Societal Needs– Improved protection of life and property (related to impacts of
hazardous weather, climate, water and other environmental events and increased safety of transport on land, at sea and in the air;
– Poverty alleviation, sustained livelihoods and economic growth (in connection with the Millennium Development Goals) including improved health and social well-being of citizens (related to weather, climate, water and environmental events and influence); and
– Sustainable use of natural resources and improved environmental quality.

KO 4.2: WMO Information System is developed and implemented
Implementation of WIS by NMHSs with continuous access to observations and products to meet the needs of the NMHSs and national users and to enhance capabilities of Members to access data and productsEnhanced capabilities for data processing and management
World Weather Watch Programme
KO 4.3: Accessible climate observations and climate data archives at the NMHSs and global data centres are increased
Progress in implementing the Global Climate Observing SystemIncrease in projects to rescue and digitize climate data, to improve the use and exchange of high quality climate data sets and to assess the state of the global climate systemNumber of Members developing and implementing modern climate monitoring systems, including Climate Watch Systems

WMO OMMCAgM ToRs to address GSNs
• With global societal needs escalating, future weather, climate, water and related environmental products and services will require significant targeted improvements.
• The definition of the role of CAgM in the 1999 vision document as a “Statement of Need” was designed with a view to the 21st century and to serve the future goals of CAgM.
The vision statement:
“to promote agrometeorology and agrometeorologicalapplications for efficient, sustainable food, fodder and fibre production for an increasing world population in fastlychanging environments”.
CAgM XV - 2010
WMO OMM
• The draft WMO Strategic Plan for agrometeorologyfocuses on improving support systems, including evaluation of impacts of climate variability/change and natural disasters to vulnerable sectors to communities and decision making for sustainability;
• The Management Group and Secretariat have devised a CAgM Operational Plan;
• Key Outcomes and Deliverables have been identified
CAgM ToRs to address GSNs

WMO OMMRevised CAgM Terms of Reference
(a) Applications of meteorology to the management of agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries sectors (herein after referred to as sub-sectors), taking into account developments both in the scientific and practical fields;
CAgM XV - 2010
WMO OMMRevised CAgM Terms of Reference
(b) Assisting the Member countries in developing and establishing their agrometeorological services through transfer of knowledge, methodologies, and techniques and by providing advice in particular on: (i) The most practical use of knowledge concerning weather and climate for sustainable agricultural management through conservation and better use of natural resources;(ii) The use of weather, climate, and agrometeorological forecasts and warnings for operational purposes;(iii) Adaptation to climate variability and change, in particular in developing countries;(iv)The combating of unfavourable influences of weather and climate on agriculture and animal husbandry, including weather-related pests and diseases; (v) The protection of agricultural produce in storage or in transit against damage or deterioration due to the direct and indirect influences of weather and climate;
CAgM XV - 2010
WMO OMM
(c) Developing mechanisms through which users of weather and climate information in sub-sectors can liaise actively with weather and climate service providers and vice versa;
(d) Formulating data and information requirements for agricultural purposes;
(e) Using effective communication methods for disseminating agrometeorological information, advice and warnings to sub-sectors and obtaining feedback;
(f) Promoting a better understanding of the interactions betweenweather, climate, drought and desertification.
Revised CAgM Terms of Reference

WMO OMMWMO Operating Plan
• Based on Strategic Plan 2012-2015 and informs Results Based Budget and Monitoring and Evaluation;
• Has activities from RAs, TCs and Secretariat• More input needed from TCs and RAs• Guidance needed on further development
CAgM XV - 2010
