Interior Design Case Study
Atkins provided full interior design services as part of a refurbishment programme which revitalised cafeterias used by public sector workers across London.
Atkins’ interior design team developed distinctive new cafeteria facilities for a public sector client in London. Working across multiple sites, we applied standard design finishes and detailing to create fresh new spaces where staff can relax and eat 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The refurbishments included catering services, seating areas, night kitchens and the provision of operational feeding for up to 200 covers at a time.
We worked with the client to develop a crisp, clean design that revitalised all its cafeterias, drawing on the distinctive cosmopolitan energy of their city locations.
From the outset our priority was to fully understand and respond to end-user
requirements, recognising that the way that space is used has changed over recent years. Key to this was the front of house serveries which had to reflect changes in operating procedures, as well as dining and recreation habits.
As such, we interviewed members of staff and carried out detailed site surveys to create a very clear project framework which adhered to the latest design standards and technical requirements. This included accessibility, technical machinery and kitchen equipment which were all integrated into the overall design.
Our work included sketch design, specification of FF&E, 3D visualisation concept images and complete drawing packages ready for construction.
