With Christmas around the corner, come to Cadogan Hall and join vocalists Mary Carewe and Michael Dore as they entertain you with such merriments as Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Mary’s Boy Child, The Christmas Song, The Little Road to Bethlehem. But if that wasn’t enough, you too can join in and sing-along to your favourite carols as Nick Davies conducts the Orchestra in many festive treats!

This fabulous concert celebrates a magnifi cent decade of chart-topping songs as Richard Balcombe conducts our energetic quartet of vocalists (Mary Carewe, Alison Jiear, Emma Kershaw and Graham Bickley) who will perform classics by Petula Clarke, Dusty Springfi eld, Cilla Black, The Beach Boys, Lulu and The Walker Brothers to name a few.

As usual this year we offer a variety of seasonal musical entertainment including carol concerts from The Children’s Trust and Goldsmith’s Choral Union, Handel’s Messiah performed by the English Chamber Orchestra, a special Christmas performance by The Choir of Westminster Abbey, the return of The Rat Pack at Christmas and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Christmas Cracker plus a new RPO concert Swinging Sixties at Christmas.

The new year sees an array of outstanding soloists visiting Cadogan Hall: Maxim Vengerov, Maria João Pires, Natalie Clein and Nicola Benedetti, to name a few. Russian orchestras are always popular here and we are privileged to be welcoming one of the best, the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra on 9 February. We are also looking forward to a rare visit from the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in February.

Saturday 14 February is Valentine’s Day and where better to celebrate than in the beautiful surroundings of Cadogan Hall with Clare Teal and her mini big band, with a repertoire of songs from Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Doris Day and more.

Join the Bands of the Royal Air Force as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the UK’s greatest national icons – the Red Arrows. Expect a programme of music spanning the past five decades to match the colour, flamboyance and entertainment provided by ‘those magnificent men in their flying machines’. From The Beatles to Bolero, Queen to Lloyd-Webber, Big Band to Puccini, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on the Royal Air Force in Concert Tour.

From rousing military marches such as The Jaguar March and the Royal Air Force March Past to memorable musical moments from the stage and screen including Music of the Night and Nessun Dorma, audiences will be able to enjoy a journey that has seen the Red Arrows come to occupy, through their professionalism and bravery, a place in the collective heart of the nation.

The audience is being encouraged to ‘wear something red’ to the concerts to show their support for this fantastic aerobatic team.

Sibelius Rakastava Elgar Cello Concerto Shostakovich Two Pieces for String Octet Shostakovich Chamber Symphony

There’s an abundance of passion and intensity in Vladimir Ashkenazy’s programme. At its heart lies Elgar’s searing Cello Concerto: written in the aftermath of the First World War, it’s a potent elegy for a lost age. Making his UK concerto debut is the astoundingly gifted Russian cellist Alexey Stadler.

Like Shostakovich, Vladimir Ashkenazy experienced at first hand the life of an artist in the Soviet Union. Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony is an orchestration of his tragic Eighth Quartet, written at white heat and dedicated to ‘the victims of fascism and war’.

Sibelius’ Rakastava (The Lover) is a real rarity but no less compelling for all that, abounding in brooding atmosphere.

5. 4. 3. 2. 1. It’s The Manfreds sees original Manfred Mann members Paul Jones, Mike Hugg and Tom McGuinness together with Rob Townsend, Marcus Cliffe and Simon Currie reunite with very special guest and former member Mike d’Abo.

The Manfreds boast some of the finest quality talent ever assembled on one stage. Since Manfred Mann formed in 1962, they have firmly secured their place in the history books of British popular and R&B music.

After the successful reunion in 1991, The Manfreds have toured extensively, received standing ovations nationwide and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Now they are back to inject all of the enthusiasm back into their timeless anthems including Do Wah Diddy Diddy, 5-4-3-2-1, Mighty Quinn, Pretty Flamingo and many more!

The concert opens with the world premiere of Petrie’s Christmas Carol Fantasia that includes well-known carols from across the world. Ravel’s Mother Goose features a collection of colourful miniatures inspired by scenes from children’s literature, such as Sleeping Beauty, The Fairy Garden and Little Tom Thumb.

Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto is amongst the grandest of them all and we are ecstatic that the internationally renowned violinist Remus Azoitei joins us. This work features the sweeping melodies and hair-raising climaxes that make Tchaikovsky one of the most loved composers of all time!

Following the hugely popular 25th anniversary Christmas tour, renowned folk singer Maddy Prior joins up once again with the Carnival Band during the festive season for their unique celebratory show Carols & Capers. The Russian Virtuosi of Europe and legend of Russian song, Boris Grebenshikov (BG), join forces for an unforgettable evening of Russian music. Look forward to an eclectic programme including the world premiere of Colombian composer Arturo Cuellar’s Latin Fantasy on Russian Themes and many of BG’s favourite songs. A household name in Russia, he is widely considered to be the ‘founding father’ of Russian rock.

BG appears with the Russian Virtuosi of Europe, founded by violinist Yuri Zhislin. The ensemble comprises internationally renowned artists who enjoy successful careers around the world. Since their successful debut in 2004, the RVoE has given concerts in Europe and had several South American and Russian tours.

Oxford Philomusica returns to Cadogan Hall together with its Artist in Residence, a musician who requires little introduction. Maxim Vengerov is universally hailed as one of the world’s finest musicians, and often referred to as the greatest living string player of the age. Showcasing two sides of his musical personality, Vengerov is first joined by Oxford Philomusica Music Director and pianist Marios Papadopoulos to explore two of Brahms’ most intimate works, before stepping onto the podium to conduct the free-flowing, rugged musical brilliance of Mendelssohn’s most inspired symphony, the Scottish.

London Concertante returns to Cadogan Hall following its debut sell-out concert last year. Focused around Bach’s magnificent masterpieces, Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 4 and 5, the ensemble brings its deft hand and refreshing interpretation to these classics. Featuring an array of sensational soloists, the ensemble augments Bach’s works with pieces by Telemann, Vivaldi and Mozart for a sumptuous evening of wonderful music to brighten any January blues!

Legendary American songwriter, virtuoso guitarist and pianist, Nils Lofgren returns to the UK for the first time since 2011. After touring with Bruce Springsteen as a long-time member of the E Street Band on both the 2012-13 Wrecking Ball and 2014 High Hopes tours, Nils Lofgren is back to perform his own legendary live show.

Known for his world-class guitar playing, and his on-stage acrobatics, Nils Lofgren is a true rock legend in his own right, a superb front-man, both with Grin and under his own name. Recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the E Street Band, Nils released Face the Music in August 2014, a 10-disc retrospective box set of his 45 years of recording.

Nils is joined for an acoustic set by multi-instrumentalist Greg Varlotta.

Expect classic Lofgren favourites like Shine Silently, I Came to Dance, Keith Don’t Go and many others from his vast back catalogue.

The iconic Maria João Pires returns to the LCO for one of her favourite concertos – Beethoven’s Fourth. Not only a great pianist but also an ardent nurturer of young talent, Pires has recently launched the Partitura Project – bringing together artists of different generations. As part of the project’s inaugural season, the Armenian Ashot Khachatourian plays one of Mozart’s most carefree works, the Concert Rondo, K.386.

Encompassing the hallmark romanticism of the 19th century and the political angst of the Soviet Union, this all-Russian programme features some of the most distinctive works in the classical repertoire. The ebullience of the popular Overture to Glinka’s five-act Ruslan and Lyudmila is contrasted with Rachmaninov’s lavish Piano Concerto No. 2, performed by Italian pianist Alessio Bax.

Shostakovich’s imposing Symphony No. 5 was completed just a few years before the outbreak of World War Two, at a time when Soviet composers were pressured to conform to requisites set by the authorities; the blend of satire and submission has intrigued audiences ever since its conception, while the triumphant Finale continues to astound to this day.

One of the world’s great musical multi-taskers, the charismatic Jörg Widmann is renowned as a composer, clarinet soloist and conductor. He takes on all three roles in this concert, which features music by another multi-talented musician, Mozart.

We open with Widmann conducting the London premiere of his Ikarische Klage (Icarus’ Lament) the ultimate cautionary tale of ambition outstripping ability.

Widmann then turns soloist in Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Concerto, and ends the evening conducting the LCO in Mozart’s ebulliently life-affirming final symphony, the Jupiter.

First established in 1895, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is a vital part of Hong Kong’s cultural life and regularly performs with an enviable roster of international conductors and soloists. Tonight, the orchestra is led by Music Director Jaap van Zweden.

Beethoven’s much-loved and only Violin Concerto is performed by the award-winning violinist Ning Feng – the first student at London’s Royal Academy of Music to be awarded 100% for his final recital.

Giovanni Allevi is an Italian pianist, composer and conductor famous for his rhythmic and melodic compositions, combining the classical tradition with a more contemporary style. Allevi has performed concerts all over the world including a performance for Italy at the 2012 Olympic Games.

His first two piano solo albums No Concept and Joy were enormously successful, achieving platinum and triple platinum sales respectively. His 2010 album Alien has also achieved platinum sales and to mark this achievement Giovanni Allevi is embarking on this international tour, celebrating 20 years of his award-winning musical career.

In 2006, Scott released his ground-breaking debut album Passing Stranger, which contained an eclectic mix of styles and featured the world renowned tabla player Sukvinder Singh Namdari, who had played alongside such artists as Ry Cooder and Ravi Shankar. Shortly after, Scott’s first single, Elusive was released which went on to win the Ivor Novello Award for ‘Best Song Musically and Lyrically’ in 2007.

Scott Matthews started 2014 with a brand new self-produced album entitled Home Part 1, officially released in November. It will be his fourth studio album. Scott has not only embarked on a number of sell-out headline tours, but has also been fortunate enough to tour with some of the world’s most respected artists, including Foo Fighters, Snow Patrol, Rufus Wainwright, Tori Amos and Robert Plant. His vocal style has been described as ‘ghostly’, ‘haunting’, and ‘hypnotic’ and the opportunity to see and hear him in the intimate surroundings of Cadogan Hall is one not to be missed.

GETTING TO CADOGAN HALLThe easiest way to travel to Cadogan Hall is by public transport.Located two minutes walk from Sloane Square Tube, served by District and Circle lines, just one stop from Victoria station which has both mainline and additional Tube connections.

Sloane Square Underground Two minutes walkUpon exiting Sloane Square Station, turn immediately right, passing the Royal Court Theatre. (You will see Cadogan Hall’s tower immediately before you). Cross over Cliveden Place and walk up Sedding Street to the Hall.

Bus Sloane Street one minute walkFrequent bus services stop in Sloane Square and neighbouring streets including King’s Road, Sloane Street and Lower Sloane Street. Bus services include numbers 11, 19, 22, 137, 211, 319, 360 and c1.

Taxi Rank Sloane Square one minute walkTaxis are numerous in the area and there is a taxi rank located on Sloane Square opposite the Underground Station.

Parking A limited number of bays are available on Sloane Terrace, Wilbraham Place and Sedding Street after 6.30pm.

Concessions and student ticketsWhere general concessions are available this is defined as under-16s, full time students, senior citizens and persons out of work. Tickets are subject to availability and at the discretion of Cadogan Hall. A limited number of £10 student tickets are available for many of our concerts. Group discountsCadogan Hall offers generous discounts for groups of six or more. Discounts vary according to event so please call 020 7730 5744 for further information or to make a group booking.

Data ProtectionWhen making a booking your details will be recorded on to our database and may be used by Cadogan Hall and our associates to inform you of forthcoming events. If you do not wish to receive this information please inform the Box Office at the time of booking.

Conditions of salePlease note that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded. Only one discount is available per booking. Children under five will not be admitted to Cadogan Hall except for family shows, where children over the age of one must have their own seats. We reserve the right to remove children from the auditorium if they are not well behaved. Price band structure reflects the level of comfort and clarity of view. We regret we cannot guarantee unrestricted view at all times due to the varying nature of performances.

ACCESSIBILITYFree companion / Assistance schemeCadogan Hall has a range of services to assist disabled customers including provision for wheelchair users in the stalls. Companions of disabled customers are entitled to a free seat when assisting disabled customers at Cadogan Hall. Please note that companion seats not sold 48 hours prior to any given performance will be released for general sale.

Wheelchair usersIf you use a wheelchair and wish to transfer to a seat, we regret we may not be able to provide a member of staff to help you physically. However, we will arrange for your wheelchair to be taken away and stored. A lift is located to the right once inside the Box Office reception allowing access to a lowered Box Office counter. Foyer areas are on the same level as the Box Office and the foyer bar (Oakley Room) is accessed via a wide access lift. Seats within the stalls are accessed via a wide lift as are adapted toilet facilities.

The GalleryPlease note the lift provides access to all levels except the gallery seating areas. Gallery seating can only be accessed via the main stairwell. When travelling to and from the gallery seating areas please allow sufficient time in order to be seated at an appropriate time.

Customers with hearing requirementsThe Box Office counter is fitted with a loop system to aid customers with any hearing impairment. The auditorium is fitted with an infra-red amplification system. This is not the same as a Loop System so switching your hearing aid to ‘T’ is not sufficient. You will need to use an amplification aid.

Customers with sight impairmentGuide dogs are welcome to access the hall and auditorium but please do let us know prior to arriving at the hall so we may make any special arrangements if necessary. We produce CD versions of this brochure. To request a free copy please call the Box Office and ask to be added to our regular lists. ‘Touch / Familiarisation’ tours can be arranged and we have unisex accessible toilets on all levels except the Gallery.
