• The indicators were developed as a tool to evaluate how smart and sustainable a city is, and serve as a tool to identify priorities for action.
• It consist of 17 goals, 169 targets covering 350 dimensions
• Grouped under three areas: Economy, Environment, and Society & Culture.
• Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 10 years.

“ “Sustainable Cities is cities designed with CONSIDERATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, INHABITED BY PEOPLE dedicated
to minimisation of required inputs of ENERGY, WATER AND FOOD AND WASTE output of heat, air pollution”
“Worldwide definition illustrates APPARENT ASSOCIATION TO CO2 EMISSIONS and other elements contributing to climate
change.” - Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC)

BANDAR RENDAH KARBON – Definisi
PLANMalaysia Low Carbon City can be defined as a city that comprises of societies that consume sustainable green technology, green practices and emit relatively low carbon or GHG as compared with present day practice to avoid the adverse impacts on climate change
– Green Neighbourhood Guideline, 2010
International Council for Local Environmental Inititives (ICLEI) A low-carbon city recognizes its responsibility to act. It pursues a step- by-step approach towards carbon neutrality, urban resilience and energy security, supporting an active green economy and stable green infrastructure (2010).

BANDAR RENDAH KARBON – Definisi
THE WORLD BANK The term low-emission development strategies (LEDS) first emerged under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2008 and its possible role in a future climate framework continues to be debated. Though no formally agreed definition exists, LEDS are generally used to describe forward-looking national economic development plans or strategies that encompass low-emission and/or climate-resilient economic growth. (2014)
ICLEI and C40 Cities A city’s ability to take effective action on mitigating climate change, and monitor progress, depends on having access to good quality data on GHG emissions. Planning for climate action begins with developing a GHG inventory. An inventory enables cities to understand the emissions contribution of different activities in the community. (2018)
World Wildlife Fund A low carbon city is defined as a community “that pursues a systematic process to achieve GHG emission reductions” (2014).

PENGIRAAN PELEPASAN KARBON
ABSOLUTE BASED CALCULATION
refers to the total quantity of greenhouse gas emissions being emitted
E.g:
Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam manage to reduce their carbon emission to 50,901.32 tonne CO2
Absolute reduction are calculated based on:
INTENSITY BASED CALCULATION
is the volume of emissions per unit of GDP (economic output).
E.g:
Malaysia pledged at the 15th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 15) in Copenhagen that Malaysia will reduce its carbon dioxide emission intensity to 40 per cent per GDP by 2020, as compared to 2005 levels
