In order to sprout com- petition among the school, the winning sophomore class was awarded with a donut and orange juice party during break. After just one week of collecting cans, the Ambassadors Club raised 1,555 cans. WAPT even in- terviewed the CA cheerleaders about the competition against Benton. Although CA lost the can collection to Benton Academy by a mere 200 cans, the Panther football team won the football game! Thanks to everyone who donated cans to the Mississippi Food Network! High School Student Spotlight by Jacob Feduccia Sophomore Olivia Shelton loves being a varsity cheerleader and everything that goes with it. Elementary Student Spotlight by Cole Goza Sixth grader Ava Dicker- son plans to be a veter- inarian when she grows up. Ava runs on the high school cross country team even though she is still in elementary. This is the first year Ava has had to switch classes, and she doesn’t like it. She says that “switching classes is confusing.” Her favorite day to dress up for homecoming week was nerd vs. prep day. Elementary Gets Cookin’ by Sarah Thomason The first and second graders are in for a real treat this school year, literally. For the first time at Canton Academy, the Elementary has a cooking class. The elementary cooking class is taught by Mrs. Sunny. Mrs. Sunny is experienced. She owned a catering business in Jackson. When Mrs. Sunny was asked what they have been making, she answered, “We are cooking through the alphabet A through Z. We pick a different letter to cook with each time.” Because it is October, most of their treats are Hal- loween themed such as, Freaky Fingers and Grillish Gills. When asked, second graders Taylor McCain and Reese Willis said their favorite food made so far, they both agreed it was Clarice’s Crispy crack- ers, which are cracker decorated “Under the Sea” theme. Mrs. Sunny has big plans for her cooking class. Her future plans include teaching table man- ners and having each student have a recipe book by the end of the year. Pinking it out! This issue is printed on pink paper in honor and support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! There’s an App for Us by Daniel Murphy The Canton Academy app is available on both the Android and the iPhone operating systems. Its goal is to make the website more accessible and convenient to mobile users. Currently there have been a total of 159 people that have downloaded it, all from iPhone users. In the future the school wants to make the app more user-friendly and to add a prayer request tab. There is also a plan to add a sports score board. It is much more convenient to visit the website through this app, rather than go through the website on your phone. Coach McCain says, “The possibilities are endless.” Don’t forget to send any and all feed back to either Coach McCain or as an iTunes review. Student Council Goes to Convention by Sarah Lightheart The Student Council was able to go to a convention held at Hinds Community College and hear from two speakers. The first speaker spoke on his son’s hardships, what he’d gone through being a soilder, almost losing an arm, and how even through these trials, he is still being a leader and an example of Christ. The second speaker spoke of a few qualities that a true leader should have. They will learn what the service project is at the big student council convention in the spring. When asked what he learned senior Daniel Smith said, “Being a lead- er is going against the grain and doing what is right. It is interesting and good to learn ways to step up and be a leader, and this is something I strive to be.” Annual has a Workshop by Mrs. Martin Sitting in an auditorium all day with area high school students learning about journalism today and creating an award winning year- book may not seem like fun to many, but for CA Annual staffers, it was just that. They traveled to Madison Central for a program hosted by the MS Scholastic Press Associa- tion. Everyone’s favorite speaker was Blaze Hayes. “He was awesome. I was so excited to get my Blaze Buck!” said Junior Editor Tori McDonald.

HOMECOMING 2012

Jungle 2 Jungleby Molly Ratcliff and Tori McDonaldHomecoming 2012 was a week full of excitement and fun. Students were allowed to dress up each day for all of the different themes. On Friday, the Junior High and Varsity cheerleaders put on a pep rally to pump up the footall team before the game, and the Homecoming Court was introduced. “Our favorite part of being senior maids was getting ready with each other!” said Senior Maids Samantha Johnson and Hart Pepper. At half-time that night, the elementary put on a captivating perfor-mance to many different jungle songs. “All I was given was a theme, and one of my favorite movies is Mada-gascar”, said Mrs. Watt, elementary music teacher. “I used the theme song from that movie and a few other songs that reminded me of the jungle.” Following the elementary performance, the Homecoming Court was announced and we crowned our queen, Kaley Ander-son. The night was concluded with the Homecoming dances. The Junior High rocked it out in the auditorium, and the High School jammed in the Band Hall.

New CA Royaltyby Anna Grace HarrisHer day started out like any other. She got up and got ready. Then, she rode in on an Audi for the parade and was announced at the pep-rally with the rest of the Homecoming court. After the pep-rally the fun really began. She got her hair and makeup done. After pictures at the Country Club, the court headed to the field to get ready for half time and take more pictures with everyone. Now, half time. All the court members walked on the field and the anticipa-tion was over. Kaley Anderson was annouced CA Homecoming Queen! Kaley said, “It seemed unreal! I was very excited and glad the anticipa-tion was finally over.” Her whole family was there to support her on her big night. When asked if she had worn her crown since she said, “I have tried it on for my little cousins a few times.”

SAVE THE DATEK5 Go to Pumpkin Patchby Amie Elliott The K-5 students recently visited the Nichols-Boyd Pumpkin Patch. All of the students had a great time! Student Andrew Willis says, “It’s my second time, and I really liked it! I want to go again next year!” Along with picking pumpkins, the students also rode hay rides. David Gee picked the biggest pumpkin out of the whole class and Andrew Willis picked the smallest. The class all had a wonderful time and Mrs. McK-ay says that she cannot wait to take the next K-5 class.

Pee-Wee Football by Anna WilliamsThe pee wee football team had a memora-ble year. Sixth grader, Will Anderson told of his favorite moment of the season, “when I scored my first touchdown against East Rankin.” Drew Goza said, “One thing that was different were the plays.” One of the coaches, Coach Yoder said, “Coaching the Panther Pee Wee team with Coach Louis Watt this year was a tremen-dous challenge. The experience resulted in great blessings. Football teaches many lessons about life. Life is hard, and not always fair. We face adversity. But just as football teaches us to rely on our teammates, football can teach us to rely on power of having a personal relation-ship with Jesus Christ.” They ended a great and memorable year with winning the last game against Benton Academy with a score of 38-0. Good job, boys!
