The final CA event for 2014 Rosslyn Aero Modelers on 8 November was another successful event.

The weather was ‘strange’ with a mixed bag of wind, clouds and temperature changes. But like always, CA pilots are not sis-

sies and it only affected the Scale flying. The RAM club was in mint condi.on with open skies that was thoroughly enjoyed by

all par.cipants. It was also the first .me we saw 6 scale entries with sta.onary display and scale flying….awasome!

With the skill-set of Stokkies, the poor man ended up as caller for many of the FW pilots and at the end of the day he felt like

the resident CA caller. It was also the first .me we saw John Withers on STIG duty with Willem de Veer. As only one flight line

was used for the 16 entries, they both scored as a test and interes.ng experiment from a judging point of view.

There were 7 Standard Class pilots and 9 Top Notch pilots. Amongst the Top Notch group we had Andre Stockwell, Bryan

Currie and Arney Sieling…serious compe..on.

Within the Stand Grouping we had Roland Suhrmuller who won several past events. Other pilots felt it was .me for Rolly to

upgrade and this was dealt with during the Pilots Briefing in a democra.c way! The majority felt he must upgrade and he was

congratulated and so he par.cipated in Top Notch. He damaged his landing gear in the first round at landing but in true CA

spirit, guys like Mark Coetzee assisted with the repair and he was ready for the second round. That is the spirit, thanks Mark!

The STIG know by now that points are hard to come by in this class and the compe..on was

serious. Is was only Stokkies that could manage to see the 70’s with guys like Arney and Bry-

an Currie with their Heli’s only managed the mid 60’s. Mad Max and Baron von Ruzzler also

gave each other a hard .me but Mad Max had a pre?y good second round to secure his 4th

posi.on. Rolly experienced his first round ever in TN and the pressure got to him the first

round. He missed a few tricks and lost landing gear on landing. That did not stop him one bit

and he came back with strong 54% in the second round! That did not kept the kite away

unfortunately...

Roland Suhrmuller receiving his Kite for longest

flight in TN

Wessel Vosloo entered by he had issues with his Heli and leB early to

fix his heli. Shame...

The fix Roly lost his landing gear but

with Mark Coetzee around there

is no need to panic!

Scale Display and flying

Andre Dethioux assisted us in seEng this ac.vity up and what a sight to see all these scale craB. Roly bragged with his

Dragon Fly amongst all the other heli entries. Really difficult to decide which photos to post! We had 5 entries and although

Bryan won the flying sec.on, the overall winner was Andre Dethioux with his UH1B. Henri Walton gave Andre Stockwell

some training and these two chaps then judged the scale entries.

ABer a very successful 2014 there are other op.on than to grow and expand CA in 2015.

Scale: We wish to grow and expand this ac.vity for both Fixed Wing and Helicopters. We hope that this can become a

standard ac.vity with each and every CA event.

Fun Fly: During February 2015, at Silverton Radio Flyers, we will a?empt to host Fun Fly with CA. There are s.ll some

bridged to cross but we are serious in making this work. CA is merely tes.ng to see if each CA event can be a Fun Fly event

as well. The Fun Fly will stay within the SIG as is, we just want to reach out to more RC pilots and making events more

meaningful.

Mul-Rotor: Here we are s.ll trying to get this of the ground. We believe there are also room to include the Mult0 Rotor

challenges within CA events.

Speed Tesng: Speed Tes.ng is slowly gaining ground and already a key ac.vity during CA events. This to stay as is and we

foresee this to become major during 2015 as it is already part of the MHSA official Calendar.

Speed Tesng The Speed Tes.ng is now a standard ac.vity at CA events and this .me around we saw 8 entries. As always Andre (Die

Hard) van Huysteen managed the Speed Tes.ng.

Thomas had difficulty with control and kind of flew twice the distance in the 200m stretch but s.ll managed a top speed

of 226 km/h! Other problems was depth percep.on with pilots turning short. Flying fast is not just going full thro?le, it is

a skill set...

If only we could find a “speed supplier” to sponsor a voucher or two...

We monitored all par.cipa.ng pilots during 2014 to keep track of

the progress made during the year. From that we selected the

“Most Improved Pilot”, meaning the pilot that really grew plenty.

There were 2 guys that stood out, both from Barnstormers (they

are actually good friends). Nevertheless, Johann Louwrens took the

honors for 2014! RAM was only the 4th .me he par.cipated in

structured flying and he did really well, Well done Mr Futaba!

Global Measurement Solu.ons sponsored the Digital Mul.meter

he received.

We had 7 Std Entries and only 12.5% difference between 1st and 5th place! Not shabby at all, good going guys! It was also

nice to see Jonathan Sher at CA for the first .me. Being a first .mer, things were tough for Sherrie. Marius Bower only com-

pleted 1 round as he had other things to do...what can be so important one might wonder… Anyway, that leB Sherrie with

the Longest Flight Award.

With the promo.on of Rolly into TN, it leB the field open and they pilots did not waste any .me. The first round belonged

to Marius Bower with 61% but leaving early did not help him one bit and Mr Futaba took 1st in the end. Siellie gave it an-

other try but I think Mr Cool can be of value to Siellie….

Entry Name Call Name Results

1 Johann Louwrens Mr Futaba 56.91%

2 Tim Rossouw Tim 54.61%

3 Christo Barkhuizen Christo 49.01%

4 Deon Viljoen Boyscout 46.38%

5 Johan Sieling Sielie 44.41%

6 Jonathan Sher Sherrie 32.89%

7 Marius Bower Bower 30.59%

All in all, Std Class is doing well and all the guys made solid pro-

gress during 2014, we hope to see a con.nua.on of this trend in

2015. Well done to all!
