Important Thing About the 10 Commandments
The 10 Commandments are “Do Not” statements that Martin Luther turned around into “Do” Statements.
Structure of a Talksheet
1. Opening, general questions.
2. Comparative question.
3. Focusing question on what you’re trying to get at.
4. Application Question.
Structure of a Talksheet
What?
So What?
Now What?
Wednesday, September 19th
They Are Not The 10 Suggestions!
Basic Thoughts:
1. God wants us to live an abundant life. God wants to free us from sin.
2. Following the commandments frees us from the things we will do that will harm us.
3. The Commandments are guides for life that will keep us on the path and allow us to live a life full of freedom.
They’re Not The 10 Suggestions (p.2)
“ It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
- Galatians 5:1
Wednesday, September 26th
One God! Basic Thoughts:
1. There is one God
2. It’s not us.
3. It’s not anyone else.
4. We are to fear (respect), love and trust God above anything else.
5. Human nature is to put our faith into things that will eventually let us down. Even those people who love us.
6. The key question is figuring out how to live as if we have only one God.
One God! (p.2)
What we want to get at:1. We all decide where to put our
faith. If we don’t there are plenty of other people willing to make the decision for us.
2. Similar to upcoming series on the Creed.
Wednesday, October 3rd
Calling God by NameBasic Thoughts:
1. We shouldn’t take God’s name in vain. We just shouldn’t. That’s the “Do Not”
2. So what should we do? Use God’s name for prayer, praise and thanksgiving.
3. To use God’s name is to tap into God’s power.
4. To do otherwise diminishes God’s name.
Wednesday, October 10th
Work, Work, Work, Work, Work, Work, Rest… Basic Thoughts:
1. The sabbath is a gift. We are the recipients of that gift.
2. The sabbath is a day to focus on our relationshiop with God.
3. The sabbath is not necessarily a Sunday.
