Welcome to classMy friends will enter the

classroom between 7:30 and 7:45am

You will unpack, turn in RED folders containing homework and notes from home to the blue crate beside teacher

desk, and place money into the blue folder in the front of the room (unless otherwise

instructed)

Friends will be instructed to sharpen 3 pencils, and begin

working on morning work/Daily Data

Attendance Time!Before 8:00am my friends will move their name card to the Venn

Diagram to answer the Daily Data *Question of the Day*

I will ask you to make sure everyone has moved his/her name. The leftover names are my absent friends. If you come in late, please

move your name card and unpack quietly.

My Absent FriendsMy sweet absent friends will be

able to make up work when he/she has returned to school.

Please send the proper documentation for excused

absences in your child’s RED folder.

Excused absences consist of parent notes, doctor notes, or

special situations

All work missed from absence will be stacked neatly on student’s

desk.

My friends will have 2 days to complete work and return it to

me.

Uh Oh! You’re Late!If the clock strikes 7:50, and you aren’t here yet, your parent must take you to the office and sign you in. The office will give you a tardy slip that you will turn into me upon arriving at the classroom. Please enter the room quietly and begin with morning work.

Medicine Procedures

During the first couple of weeks of school, parents of students with any medical needs will need to meet with the nurse to fill out appropriate paperwork for the student.

Parents will also need to send a note to me in the student’s RED folder with any information about student’s health. (See School Handbook for further information)

Early DismissalsThere are times that school will be dismissed early due to inclement weather. In this case, parents will be notified by an email and a phone call from our emergency alert system. Parents should have signed up for this during registration before the school year starts.

Bus riders will follow their normal procedures

If you are a car rider or go to after school care, your parent will need to arrange to have you picked up by them or someone on your approved check-out list.

Time to go home!• At 2:30, my friends will be

called to my desk by their groups to get their RED folder, and then they may begin packing up.

• My friends will be dismissed based on how they will be getting home.

• Car Riders will be dismissed to the car rider line at 2:45

• Early Bus will be dismissed to the busses at 2:50

• Late Bus riders will be dismissed at 2:55

• After School Care will make their way to the lunchroom at 2:55

HomeworkHomework will only be given if needed. Every week my friends must

complete DMR (Daily Math Review) at home. Home

work will be in RED folders on the side marked

*Homework* Incomplete classwork will also be put

in this section of RED folder and will be labeled *Incomplete* This work

will need to be completed and returned the next day.

Let’s Recognize These Awesome Students!

• Recognition notices can be given to students by me or another member of the faculty in the school. When a student receives a recognition notice, they will keep the original copy, and the carbon copy will be taken to the office so that the principal may announce their name during the afternoon announcements.

• Students may receive tickets for good behavior, exceptional work, etc. and tickets may be used to buy certain privileges in the classroom. For example: eat lunch with a friend, sit at teacher desk for a day, be teacher assistant for a day.

• Groups may receive table points for whole table following directions quickly, keeping their area clean, staying on task, etc. At the end of the week, the winning table may choose 1 prize from the treasure box.

Happy Birthday!Birthdays will be displayed on the

*Birthday Board* and on the wall calendar.

Students may bring in a special treat for all students to eat during snack time.

(Snack must comply with any food allergies in the class)

After the special snack is passed out to all students, we will sing *Happy Birthday* to

the student.

We will also celebrate any birthdays that occur during breaks the week before the

break.

Visitors

Visitors must first check in at the office with appropriate identification(see school

handbook) and get a visitor tag. Family members may

come to eat breakfast or lunch with your child anytime.

Parents may also visit during special events such as parties, special presentations by the students, etc. Please refrain

from visiting during our reading block (12:06-1:36)

VolunteersWe welcome all volunteers!

Please contact me through my email if you would like to volunteer to be room mom/dad! Room parents may help me

with party planning, special events, field trip t-shirts, and other special activities.

PTO is always looking for some volunteers for Game Day, Fall Festival, and other special events throughout the year!

*Classroom Rules*1. Respect yourself and respect others

2. Keep hands, feet, arms, legs, and unkind words to yourself.

3. Listen carefully and follow directions the first time!

4. Work quietly! We don’t want to distract our other friends in the class.

5. Do only your best in all that you do!!

Consequences & RewardsStudents not following the classroom rules will result in time out from recess. Students excessively not following the rules will result in a mark. Three marks results in sitting out all of recess. Four or more marks results in a note being sent home to parents in the student’s RED folder. The note must be signed by the parent and returned the next day in the RED folder.

For those special times when everyone is following the rules, the class may earn marbles. When the marble jar is filled up and can’t possible fit another marble in it, I will bring in a special treat for the class. That may be a special snack, a movie, a special book, etc.

Hallway Expectations

When we are in the hallway, we will be on second street(second

tile away from the wall) and we will walk quietly and calmly in a straight line. We want to set a good example for our other friends in

the hallway.

Bathroom and Water BreaksWe will have 2 bathroom/water

breaks throughout the day. Students may raise their hand and ask to go

to the restroom or water fountain as needed. Students must take a buddy

with them when they go.

When we go on group bathroom breaks, we will have a girl and boy bathroom monitor. The monitor will make sure the bathroom is clean

before students may enter. Bathroom monitors will also direct students into the bathroom upon another student

leaving the bathroom.

*Students must always wash hands*

Small Group TimeWhen I am conducting small group instruction, students are not to approach me unless it is an absolute emergency. If students have a question, they must ask three other students that are not participating in small group at the moment.

While small group is going on, I expect that all other students are staying on task and doing whatever they have been instructed to do.

In my small group, I expect my students to be paying attention to me and staying on task. This is the time to ask me questions about things that are not completely understood.

Whole GroupDuring whole group instruction, students need to be paying

attention and actively participating. Students

should not speak without raising their

hand unless I instruct otherwise. All classroom rules will be followed at

this time

Early FinishersStudents who finish work early may look at our “What will I do now?” board and pick something from there, unless I have something else planned for them.

Reading Block CentersDuring reading block, students that I am not meeting with at my small group table will

be participating in their assigned learning center. Those centers consist of :

• Literature Circles

• Independent Reading (Read a library book or book from home)

• Poetry Work Station

• Word Work

• Writing Workshop

Students at learning centers will know that this is a time to practice self control. I will have a bell at my desk. If they get too noisy, I will ring the bell. This will mean the

volume in the room needs to come way down! Students will switch centers quietly and quickly when I say that it’s time.

Classroom Materials

I expect that the materials in the classroom are treated with the same respect the students give to me. These are either my personal materials, or they belong to the school. They are not toys. All books should be handled with the gentlest of care. The pencil sharpener should only be used in the morning, and only 2 pencils will be sharpened. No one should be touching anything on my desk unless I say otherwise. If a student borrows something from me, that student must sign it out on our materials sign out sheet. Students will borrow from each other at their own risk.

Weekly NewsletterEvery Monday, I will send home a newsletter containing any special

information the parents might need to know, a list of the weekly

spelling words, and a list of weekly vocabulary words with the

definitions. It will also contain information about what we will be

studying in each subject that week. This newsletter will be in the

students’ RED folder. I encourage parents to read this weekly

newsletter every week! (Parents may call or email me anytime with

questions)

Student WorkI won’t be taking a grade on all work that is completed by the students. Work that is submitted for a grade will be kept in the students’ personal files and returned to the students every Friday in their BLUE folders. These BLUE folders only go home on Fridays. These folders are also what report cards and progress reports are sent home in.

What Will Be Graded?Projects, tests,

and most worksheets. A lot of the work we

do is just for fun and learning. It

doesn’t necessarily need

a grade on it.

It’s going to be an exciting year!
