As you all can imagine, Living with blindness or partial sight is very difficult, particularly in busy cities like Toronto, where there happen to be many people and obstacles all over the place. A major pain point that needs to be addressed for those living with vision loss is detecting obstacles above the waist, particularly at the head level.  Traditional aids like a cane or a guide dog do not always address obstacles like overhangs, tree branches and signboards and as a result irritable or even serious accidents are a frequent nuisance for someone who is blind.

Also there are no solutions that cater to the specific needs of the larger partially sighted population. Most of these individuals opt out of using aids like canes and guide dogs because of they do not want to stand out or be perceived as someone that needs help.

The BuzzClip uses ultrasound to detect obstacles that may lie directly in one's path. It then notifies the user of these obstacles through intuitive vibrations, allowing the user to safely navigate around any objects that they may encounter. The BuzzClip is very appealing to our end users and it has a significant competitive advantage compared to other products in this space through its functionality, versatility and affordability while also offering sleek style and discretion.

Ladies & Gentlemen, there are about 314 million people living with vision loss around the world, 45 million of whom are totally blind. This a big issue and our mission is to empower and improve day to day life for this often overlooked and neglected population. The response to the BuzzClip has been very positive and the initial traction has been great so far, particularly in North America. We are working to scale our business so that we can reduce the overall costs and get our product out to people who need it most in the developing world.

One of the reasons I started this company was due to my involvement with a blind school and orphanage in India that my family has been supporting for years. That’s where I realized the need for this new social innovation. Right now, we are at a critical point in our journey and winning this competition would allow us to achieve some critical milestones and really propel our business forward so that we are able to successfully commercialize our first product and begin to change the game for those living with vision loss around the world. Thank You for you time and I welcome any of your questions.
