Criticalpowertransformersandreactorsarethebackboneofanypowersystem.On-linemonitoringenablesassetmanagerstocheckthe condition of critical equipment without the need for costlyor difficult-to-schedule outages. When developing equipmentproblems can be detected before failures occur, maintenanceand repairs can be performed on a condition-based, rather thantime-basedschedule, reducingmaintenancecostsand the riskofworkmanshiperrors.

Made in the USA, the ZVCM system is a 6-channel, continuousmonitoringsystemthatcanbeconnectedonanytypeofcondenserbushingaswellasCapacitorCoupledVoltageTransformers(CCVT’s),potentialtransformersorEHVcurrenttransformers.

TheZVCMsystemallowstheusertoutilizeacombinationofanalysismethods to provide fast and reliable determination of bushingcondition. Other bushing monitoring systems only use the sum-of-three-currents and adjacent analysis methods to identify changesto bushing condition and to calculate bushing power factor and

capacitance values, but these methods are subject to substantialdynamic changes in power factor and capacitance values due topowersystemfluctuationsinsystemvoltagemagnitudesandphaseanglesaswellastransformertemperatures.Forinstallationswheremorestablepowerfactorandcapacitancevaluesaredesiredwithoutdata smoothing, the ZVCM-1001 can be configured for comparisonorreferencemodeanalysisandcanalsoprovidefullleakagecurrentmagnitudeandphaseangledataforcustomalgorithmapplications.

Hydrocal Dissolved Gas-In-Oil Monitoring System

The Hydrocal 1005 and 1008 use a micro-electronic gas sensor for H2 with vacuumheadspace and near infrared technologyto measure the other individual gasconcentrations inoil.Moisture ismeasuredwitha thinfilmcapacitivemoisturesensor. The 1003 model use individual gas andmoisture sensors to measure individualconcentrations. The model 1001+ usesmembrane technology and fuel cell gassensor technology to measure a totalcompositegaslevelandmoisture.

The HYDROCAL 1001+ is a perma-nently installed composite gas in oilsensor for the Total DissolvedCombustible Gases (TDCG) analysisof the key fault gases Hydrogen (H ),

Carbon Monoxide (CO), Methane(CH ), Acetylene (C H ), Ethylene

(C H )andEthane(C H ).

To detect an even wider range ofpotential transformer faults, theHYDROCAL 1001+ analyses addition-ally the content of Moisture (H O) in

thetransformeroil.

The HYDROCAL 1001+ is a fullyintegrated (6 key fault gases andMoisture in oil) compact and costeffective device used in particular forearly transformer fault detection andpreventativemaintenance.

Continuous On-Line Transformer Health Monitor

ThenewPPITHMtransformerhealthmonitoringsystemutilizesmultiple current, voltage, temperature, andpressure inputs inan integratedsystemtoprovidemonitoringofupto7criticalareasoftransformerperformanceaswellascontrolcoolingoperation.

Partial discharge monitor

Partial discharge (PD) is an indication of excessive insulation stress.IncreasinglevelsofPDcanbeasignofmovementinsidethetransformerorinsulationdamage.PDismonitoredwithinputsfromthebushingtesttaps,filteredtocollectthehighfrequencycurrents.

Bushing monitor

Condensor-type bushings can deteriorate with age and adverseservice conditions. Evolving problems can be detected by increasesin power factor and/or capacitance as well as imbalance currentmagnitude.Bushingpowerfactorandcapacitanceismeasuredaswellasimbalancecurrentphaseangleandmagnitude, utilizingthepowerfrequency current inputs from the bushing test taps. Our 12-channelTHMenables theuser tomeasurebushingparameterswithmultiplemethods, minimizingtheriskoffalsealarms.WheninputsfromCCVT’sor potential transformers (PT’s) are available, both the transformerbushingsandtheCCVT’sorPT’scanbemonitored.

Geomagnetic induced current (GIC) monitor

Solaractivitycanhaveadramaticimpactontransmissionlinevoltageswhichcancausedamaging levelsofDCoffsetandresultingdamagetopowertransformers.OursystemdetectsgroundcurrentsandpowersystemharmonicstoprovideanearlywarningwhenGICeventsoccur.ThemonitorutilizesvoltageinputsfromthebushingsensorsandgroundcurrentmagnitudefromaDCcurrenttransduceraroundthetransformertankground.

Leakage impedance monitor

Transformer impedance is a key indicator of the physical clearancesin the active part of the transformer and a change in impedanceindicatesa likelymovement in thewindingsorothercriticalpartsofthetransformer.Ourmonitorutilizesvoltagesfromthebushingsensorswith load currents from the transformer’s bushing CT’s to regularlymeasurethetransformerimpedance.

Thermal monitor and cooling controller

Proper cooling operation is critical to prevent accelerated aging oftransformerinsulation.ThesystemutilizesoilandambienttemperatureRTD’s and load current auxiliary CT’s to determine oil and windingtemperatures. These temperatures are used as inputs to switchtransformercoolingstagesonandoff, asneeded.

Electronic oil level monitor

Theoillevelinpowertransformersvariesasafunctionoftemperatureand the temperature varies as a function of loading. Transformersare designed to operate safely over the normal range of thermal oilexpansion, but when transformers are not properly filled, or whenexcessive leaks occur, energized parts can become exposed whichcan lead to internal flashover and catastrophic failure. Our float-lesselectronicoillevelmonitorusesoilpressureandtemperaturetelemetrywithtankgeometrytoaccuratelydetermineoillevelandvolume.Thedisplay can be mounted in easy to read locations unlike float-typegaugesandthesystemcanalsodetecthightankpressureconditionsbefore the pressure relief device activates and spills oil, and otherabnormaloperatingconditionssuchasacloggedbreather.Themonitorworksonbothconservatorandgas-blanketedtransformerdesigns.

Dissolved Gas-in-oil Analysis (DGA) monitor

DGAisthemostwidelyusedmethodtoassesstransformercondition. The standard DGA monitor for our system is the Hydrocal 1005 or1008 on-line DGA monitor which utilize near-infrared measurementtechnology for measurement of dissolved hydrocarbon gasses plushydrogenandmoisturesensors.Other typesofDGAmonitorscanbeincorporatedintotheTHMsystem, ifneeded.

Central processing and communications

TheTHMcentralprocessor routesallof the inputs to themonitoringmodules and accepts the outputs from each module.
