Paint Mojo Outline Three Inspir ing Days of Painting, Mixed Media and Playful exploration with Tracy Verdugo

Imagine. Explore. Create.

Over three days of discovery and play, we wil l explore new and non threatening

ways to make art, learn to be inspired in every moment and realize that there are

no mistakes in the creative process, only opportunit ies to learn and grow! We wil l

spend our t ime creating paintings and mixed media pieces spontaneously,

balancing an intuit ive and considered approach with an open mind and a curious

perspective!

In this three-day workshop, we wil l learn to f ind our own inner muse, reconnect with our creative selves and f ind inspiration for our art in unexpected places. With a focus on gratitude, lett ing go of our inner crit ic and playful exploration, Tracy wil l guide you through a series of fun, playful, exercises, encouraging you to become an explorer of possibil it ies. Tracy wil l share t ips and techniques on creating vibrant, expressive, colourful paintings, using acryl ics, collage, ink and pastels. She wil l gently guide you into your own personal creative f low and help you f ind ways to recognise your own authentic creative voice.

For those who have attended Paint Mojo before, please know that it is always evolving. As I grow and expand in my own art practice I am always excited to share new discoveries and passions with my students! The new three day format allows us to dive deeper AND to delve into the gorgeous possibil it ies that acrylic inks offer us. We will work not only across two canvases but also large and small, on watercolour sheets examining both abstraction and more literal aspects of this style of painting.

Verdugo

If Tracy Verdugo was given the opportunity to coin a term for a new art movement based around what she

teaches she might call it “Curiosity and Wonderism”or maybe “Loosen-upism” or “Endless possibilitism”

When she is not hanging out with her family in their artsy adobe home in a small village on the shores of

Jervis Bay, Australia, or throwing paint around in her little purple studio in their backyard, you may find her

wrangling with two large suitcases attempting to board the BART in San Francisco en route to teach at an

art retreat or sitting in a circle on St Pete Beach Florida listening intently as women share their stories of

creative longing.

Tracy is an inspiration instigator, prolific painter, singer/songwriter and lover of the written word, smitten

traveller and soaker up of all that is beauty-full. She teaches her Paint Mojo and other creative workshops

all over this amazing planet and reminds her students of the wonder that already resides within them.

Mostly though she is mama bear to two gorgeous, zest-filled daughters, Santana and Sienna, and co-

adventurer in life with her amor of 30 years, the talented and brilliant Marco.

Tracy’s works are held in collections across the globe and her best selling book Paint Mojo- A Mixed Media

Workshop: Creative Layering Techniques for Personal Expression was released in July 2014 and is available

worldwide.

What you wil l need to bring!

A mix of fluid and heavy bodied acrylic paints ( I use golden fluid acrylics), 1-2 reds, 1-2 blues, 1 yellow, Paynes Grey, any other faves~ mine are pthalo turquoise, Quinachridone magenta and

Quinachridone Nickel azo gold

* I am really enjoying inks as my main medium with my current works. If you’d also like to explore more in this direction you could bring more inks and less acrylics.

*please note that I understand Golden Fluids are expensive and you are welcome to bring acrylic paints you already have on hand and to try some of my fluids. If you are able to it would be helpful to purchase at least 3 colours in the Golden Fluid in the smallest size. Dick Blick.com

is where I buy mine J Tube of acrylic white (any brand is fine but please note that cheaper white paints will not give the same

coverage)

2 large canvases rectangular or square from 60cm up to 76cm ( no larger please as we fit two students to a table)

white ink and 4 fave coloured inks (mine are flame orange, indigo blue, antelope brown and marine blue)- I use FW Artists acrylic ink by Daler-Rowney (I will also have some to share)

apron or clothes you don’t mind getting messy

spray bottle for water bamboo skewers, a fine brush, a few other brushes (old and new), a wide flat wash brush (1 -2 inches) ( I use

a Renoir wide flow 8020 2inch)

4 small cheap foam brushes (about 4cm across from the craft store)

stencils, stamps and other mark making implements (think creatively!)

patterned serviettes (optional. I will bring some too)

A sketchbook to take notes and record ideas plus a medium sized watercolour pad if you are a prolific, fast worker.

Please bring your playful nature but try to leave your crit ical voice at home J

I wil l bring one large watercolour sheet for each student, some golden f luids, inks, gel medium for collage, collage paper and oil pastels to share.
