Disney will lead two training sessions to train young leaders, ages 18-25, to educate younger children (ages 8-12) on child online protection.

Each session will last 90 minutes hours with a break between the two sessions. During a session, 45 minutes will be the trainers talking and 45 minutes will be dedicated to the trainees. During this second part, the trainees will do directed exercises and practice with materials.

The English session will train approximately 100 international participants on site, and the Spanish session will target another 100 Spanish-speaking youth, mostly comprised of local participants from Costa Rica. Two trainers from Disney will jointly lead both sessions using training materials (booklets) and activities developed by Disney. During the evening, ITU and Disney representatives will convene 10 selected Spanish-speaking young leaders to train the national children and simulate the session of the day after.

The workshop starts from a methodological resource will be the starting point for the work of the groups and will focus on two main areas Social Networking and Digital Citizenship. This resource may be a song, a video, a text, a story or a combination of several of these.

After this initial time, participants will be organized into five working groups, each with an assigned discussion topic. These are:

Group 1: Beyond social networking:

Each working group will send its work result to a social website using a digital form, which will be presented on a plenary session as an evidence of work performed, and an opportunity to incorporate new contributions.

Within the UNICEF/ITU breakout sessions there will be 5 themes around Internet safety themes:

Cyber bullying

Self-Exposure

Grooming

Information Privacy

Every participant will get to choose two themes based on sign-up sheets on day of the conference. Sign up will be on a first-come-first-served basis with a limit of 55 per theme.

During the 90 minutes each participant will attend two thematic breakouts during which they will watch a video and afterwards they will have a discussion about the issues in the video and he messaging. A discussion guide will help the groups of young people discuss the issues in the videos and how they believe issues of online safety could and should be communicated to the youth. Young people should work in groups of 10 with one person helping to lead the discussion and one moderator per room floating from group to group for support.

Finally, after participating the two thematic sessions, the participants will have 30 minutes to design a concept for a video to promote safe Internet use based on ONE of the themes they attended. The messages can be captured in a range of ways, i.e. videos, posters, songs, rap, radio drama, etc. The participants can also use devices made available at the event, such as iPhones and tablets, to produce the video clips. Creative materials should be available in all rooms for this – electronic and traditional.

All the concepts will be collected and there will be a voting process to select the best one which will be turned into an actual video. UNICEF is

working with an animator to produce animations on digital citizenship and safety.

Blogging for voices of youth: a select group of conference participants should blog about their participation in the run up to, during and after the conference. Selected bloggers would be expected to write 1 entry before the conference talking about their expectations; one entry per day during the conference about what they’ve learnt (3); and two entries some-time after the end of the conference. Their blog entries will form part of a featured section on Voices of Youth about the conference.

Disney will lead two training sessions to train young leaders, ages 18-25, to educate younger children (ages 8-12) on child online protection.

Each session will last 90 minutes hours with a break between the two sessions. During a session, 45 minutes will be the trainers talking and 45 minutes will be dedicated to the trainees. During this second part, the trainees will do directed exercises and practice with materials.

The English session will train approximately 100 international participants on site, and the Spanish session will target another 100 Spanish-speaking youth, mostly comprised of local participants from Costa Rica. Two trainers from Disney will jointly lead both sessions using training materials (booklets) and activities developed by Disney. During the evening, ITU and Disney representatives will convene 10 selected Spanish-speaking young leaders to train the national children and simulate the session of the day after.

BYND 2015 HACKATHON IDEATION MEETING

The BYND 2015 Hackathon will look at how the use of apps can support achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), looking into the lessons learned that can be shared in the definition of future post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Hackathon ideation meeting will present the context and key challenges around the three issues that will be at the centre of the hackathon: health, education and environmental sustainability. This interactive workshop will count on the participation of the following thematic experts in each of these topics, as well as of technology experts working on how to generate technology-based solutions to address the main challenges around these areas:
