Pier Giorgio Frassati

Born in 1901 in Turin, Italy

He loved hiking, riding horses, skiing, and mountain climbing.

He enjoyed laughter and good humor.

He lived simply and gave away food, money, or anything that anyone asked of him, especially to the poor, the lonely.

He loved art and music, and could quote whole passages of the poet Dante.

He neglected his own health to try to help others and died at the age of 24 on July 4, 1925 after contracting the polio virus.

He considered his studies his first duty.

His father, Alfredo Frassati was a senator.

Pier Giorgio's mother, Adelaide Ametis Frassati, was a painter.

Pier Giorgio enjoyed the company of his friends.

He studied mining engineering in order to be near the poor and help them.

He loved sports and was very athletic.

School was very important for him.

At 12 with his father.

With his sister Luciana.

Dear Papa,

I am confused and miserable and I don’t know how to write to you. I saw how upset Mama was and I thought about you being upset so much that I don’t know how to say I am sorry. I hope you will believe in the sincerity of my resolve to study this year and try to make up for this as much as possible. You will see I’ll try to prove my affection for you with facts.
