Iowa 1st in the U.S. in planting corn and soybeans. Iowa has the richest
soil in the world. Over 90% of Iowa’s soil is used for farming. Iowan’s also raise hogs, chicken, sheep, and cows
B is for Black Hawk
Black Hawk was a War Chief who led his Sauk tribe to war. Black Hawk went to prison for fighting for his land in Iowa.
C is for corn
Iowa’s 1st in the nation for raising corn. Iowa farms harvested 13.9 million acres of land to get 2.37 billion bushels of corn. They fed people and livestock.
D is for D
es Moines
Des Moines is the biggest city in Iowa and Iowa’s capital. There are many fun things to do in Des Moines: you can go to Adventure land, Blank Park Zoo, Science Center, and living History Farms.
F is for Fun CityFun City is in Burlington, Iowa. There are many things to do there you can: play lazertag, go bowling, and go karting, there is an indoor and outdoor waterpark. There’s also an arcade with tons of games. Some of the rooms have bunk beds too.
E is for Effigy Mounds
Effigy Mounds is near McGregor and Marquette, Iowa. This park has ancient Indian burial grounds. The mounds are in different animal shapes: eagles, bears, etc. You can watch hawks and eagles on hawk watch weekend.
G is for Geode
The Geode was the official rock of Iowa in 1967. Southeastern Iowa is one of the state’s best collecting area’s. The Geode is also called the thunder rock.
H is for Grand Harbor
Grand Harbor is in Dubuque, Iowa. It has nice suites, and one big water park. You can look out the window and see the Mississippi River.
The university of Iowa is the oldest of the three state universities. The school started in 1847. Iowa’s in Iowa city, there are about 30,000 students that go to Iowa.
I is for Iowa University
J is forJohn Deere makes farm equipment. John Deere started in 1847 . The company headquarters are in Waterloo, Iowa. John Deere (the person) was born in Rutland, Vermont, February 7th, 1804.
K is for keokuk
Keokuk was the chief of the sac tribe. Keokuk cooperated with the U.s. government. His tribe was given land in Southeast, Iowa. Today a statue and grave of him are in Keokuk, Iowa.
L is for Luther college
Luther College started in 1861 by Norwegian immigrants. It’s in Decorah, IA, it has 2,5000 students. There are 60 different majors. It costs $40,585. Sports teams are called the Norse.
The Mississippi River is the largest river in the U.S. The Mississippi river is also the 2nd largest river in the U.S. About 2,320 miles long. (After the Missouri river on the other side of Iowa).

N is for Nordic Feast
Nordic Feast will celebrate its 45th anniversary. Since 1967 over 1 ½ million visitors all around the world attend the festival. (My grandpa’s store is right in the middle of the parade so we get great seats) It celebrates Decorah’s norwegian culture. We like the food varme pulse and krumkkae.

Okoboji is located in western IA. You can go bowling, ice fishing, kite flying, mini golf and more. There is even a lake to swim in.
P is for Pottawattamie
county
Pottawattamie is the 2nd largest county in iowa. It was founded in 1848. The biggest city in Pottawattamie is council Bluffs.
Q is for Quad Cities
The Quad cities are davenport, bettendorf, moline, and rock island. Two of the cities are in Iowa and two in Illinois. They have a combined population of 400,000.
R is for Ricky StanziRicky Stanzi played QB for the Iowa hawkeyes and is going to kansas city. He was born in Mentor, Ohio on September 3, 1987.
S is for Shonne Greene
Shonne Greene was a running back at Iowa. He now plays for the New York Jets. He was born in Sicklerville, NJ.

Tony Moeaki is a football player for Iowa, who now plays tight end for the kansas city chiefs. He was born in warrenville, Illinois.

U is for UNIUNI is located in Cederfalls, Iowa. About 13,000 students go there. The UNI- Dome is the only football dome in Iowa.
#8 seeded UNI beat #1 kansas.
V is for Vesterheim museum
Vesterheim Museum is in Decorah, IA. Vesterheim is the oldest and most comprehensive museum in the U.S.. The collection contains over 24,000 artifacts reflecting the experience of Norwegian Americans.
W is for Water-loo
Waterloo is in north eastern Iowa by the cedar river. The population is 66,240 people. John Deere is a big company in waterloo.
X is for extremely fun
An extremely fun place to visit is adventure land. Adventure land is an amusement park in Des Moines. You can ride the space shot, side winder, the outlaw, and more. You can also go to the water park kokomo kove.
Y is for Brigham Young
Brigham young was born in (1801-1877) in Vermont. Brigham Young was the leader of the morman church. The mormans lived in Iowa for awhile. Eventually they went to Utah. Where BYU (the college) is today.
Z is for Blank Park Zoo
The Blank Park has all kinds of animals from all around the world. It has been part of the Des Moines community since 1963.
