I spent a few hours at the AutoRama on Saturday, Feb 15. There were many car clubs represented and all types of cars; original and those restored to original, modified, totally customized, and race cars. There were a lot of custom low-riders that wore more bling than Elizabeth Taylor. Even the car’s frame and suspension components were covered in what looked like an embossed metal, in either chrome or gold plate. Several NTOC members participated in AutoRama. Chris Dreiling and Joe Munoz shared a spot; Chris with his stunning ’65 Bonneville convertible and Joe with his beautiful ’72 442 convertible. On the other side of the hall, Larry Florer and John Liconte shared space; Larry brought his very nice ’70 422 W-30 convert- ible and John had his always pristine ’83 Hurst. Over at the Nissan club display, Lois showed her showroom-looking ‘96 300ZX. And everyone won an award! Congratulations! FebruaryMonthlyMeetingThe February 2014 NTOC monthly meeting was held on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Sonny Bryans Bar-B-Q on Campbell Rd. in Richardson. President Fred Burkle opened the meeting at 2:00 and welcomed everyone. There were 26 members and 4 guests present.

Fred introduced Brian Bock who was visiting with Mike and Melody Bunzel and Rod and Jane Nobel who were visiting from Lampasas, Texas and Jim Osborne from Corinth, Texas. Rod shared with us that his father owned an Oldsmobile Dealership in Andrews, Texas for over 35 years. Rod and Jane have a ‘56 Olds with original 4bbl engine and a 72 Delta Royale.

Jim drove his beautiful 65 Delta 88 from Corinth, Texas. It is a one owner car with 114k miles. Looks very much like it just came off of the showroom floor. Jim heard about NTOC from Bill Szelag when they were working on a project to place a deck full of Corvettes (360) on the deck of the USS Lexington on the Gulf Coast. (Google it up to see what was accomplished. Very impressive.) Apparently working with Bill did not scare him off.

REOldsAwardfor2013Some of you may have missed the announcement of the NTOC members who were awarded the 2013 R.E. Olds Award for 2013. That may have been because we were not able to make the pre-sentation until the February 2014 meeting. The 2013 R.E. Olds Award was presented to Terry and Judy Bergman for their con-tributions to the success of the 2013 Zone Show, the leadership that Terry demonstrated during his year as NTOC President, and the work that Judy did to develop a supplier for the NTOC spirit items. Fred Burkle presented the award to Terry at the February meeting. Congratulations Terry and Judy; thanks for a job well done.

Treasurer’sReportCindy gave the treasurer’s report and we are financially sound. Cindy mentioned that is time for the annual membership renew-al. If your membership is due you can renew by sending your re-newal dues to Cindy Payton or better yet handing them to her at one of our NTOC events. ITISMEMBERSHIPRENEWALTIME.

As a reminder, you do not have to be an OCA member to be a member of NTOC. The requirement for OCA membership to be a local chapter member was removed by the OCA Board in July of 2013.

HelpingHandsFundCindy reported that we have over $1,063.00 in the Helping hands fund for the end of the year distribution and with several months to work on the fund we expect to be able to help fami-lies and individuals as we have done for the past several years. Among the opportunities to increase our Helping Hands Fund is the Zone Show Raffle, April 25-April 27. This is where we can pick up some neat items, join in the fun of the Zone Show, and contribute to our efforts to help those who are less fortunate.

1983CutlassDonatedbyStewartandGaylaStephensonIn January a committee was formed to make a recommendation about the best way to offer the 1983 Cutlass for sale to bring in the most money for our helping Hands Fund. A brief discussion was held during the February meeting to say that the committee had not reached a decision on the recommendation and fur-ther discussion was needed. Stewart said that one of the sen-sors needed to be replaced to eliminate the condition where the Check Engine light came on. Members voted to pay for the replacement of the sensor. Now we need someone who knows how to get under the dash to put it in. Members of the commit-tee are Lance Hall, John Bock, Chris Dreiling, Aron Nance, John Liconte and Stewart Stephenson.

NovemberFredericksburgGet-togetherfor2014forOct.31-Nov.1WeekendMembers are making reservations to attend the November Fredericksburg gathering. We are hearing from individuals that haven’t participated in the past that plan to go this year. If you are one of the Olds owners who have missed this event check your calendar now to see if you can set that weekend aside for an Olds Family gathering. You don’t have to drive an Oldsmobile to the event, because it isn’t about cars, it is about people. Of course if your Olds is roadworthy, why not drive it?

Denise has already been planning activities that include the lunch/cruise at the Full Moon B&B and the Saturday evening dinner and charity raffle.

Friday evening plans are in the works as many NTOC members expressed their wishes to go to the Rock Box Theater again. Denise is checking to see what will be scheduled for that evening’s entertainment.

Remember to be looking for clothes to match the era of your car. You will be surprised at what you can find in your closet or at one of the vintage clothing stores. To refresh your memory look for pictures on the internet that are from that time. What were they wearing in 1927 or 1941, or 1950? Lots of choices for the 1965 through 1973 years.

ComingEventsFred mentioned the Sweethearts and Orphans show in Granbury over the February 21 - 23 weekend. Maybe someone will write an article about the weekend in Granbury. Betty and I were not able to attend so that chore will fall to someone else.

AutoramaInDallasNTOC was represented at the Dallas Autorama by Larry Florer, Joe Munoz, John Liconte, and Chris Dreiling who showed his 1965 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible for the first time. Lois also entered her 1996 Z with the Z-Club display.

TIMETOSEND IT IN. Early reservations help us plan for all of the activities. Bob Kaman needs to know how many will at-tend the Saturday evening Bar-B-Q dinner at his Airport home. Cost is $14.50 per person and Bob will need some help setting things up for the meal in his airplane hangar. Dinner is planned for 7:00 with awards handed out by Chief Judge Chris Dreiling after we eat.

We will have a hospitality room beginning Friday evening through Sunday morning. Breakfast will be available for $8.00 per person at the hotel on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sign up for the breakfast when you check in.

Registration form is in this Rocket and on our NTOC website under Zone Show 2014.

The Saturday Cruise will be after the raffle and we understand that we will be given a Police Escort out of the city to ensure that we are able to stay together; at the beginning anyway. Keith Sauls has planned a route from Granbury to Glen Rose through the back roads. Always neat to see a long line of Oldsmobiles driving along the Texas country roads.

The Hilton Garden Inn host hotel block is filled and we now have options at two or three other hotels that are pretty close to the Hilton Gardens. They are listed below. Be sure to mention that you are part of the North Texas Olds Club event.

MemberInformation:Dave Huggins is home and continues to work on rebuilding his strength. Please remember Dave and Donna in your prayers. Dave is working hard to rebuild his strength so he and Donna can attend our club events.

ClubSpiritItemsThere was no discussion about spirit items during the February meeting. And I did not receive any input form NTOC members with their “wish list”. I am still open to collecting the informa-tion about items that members would like to buy, so again if you have a list send it to me at ([email protected]) Price will depend on the number of items ordered. Unless the list is completed by the March meeting we probably won’t have time to receive them for the April Zone Show.

NTOCOfficerNominationsThe following NTOC Members were nominated for offices for the 2014 - 2015 year.

• The President-elect from 2013 will move to President - Mike Payton

• President-elect for 2015 - 2016 - Chris Dreiling• Vice-President - Lawrence Dagate• Treasurer - Cindy Payton• Secretary - Gene Crowdis• Social Activities - Juju Nance• Newsletter and Website - Lois Liconte

Nominations are still open and will be through the first part of the March 9 meeting so if you are interested in nominating someone for office or you would like to take part in NTOC as an officer contact one of the current officers so we can make sure that everyone who is interested is nominated.

Safe driving wherever you go. Gene Crowdis NTOC Secretary

NTOC Zone Show Judging info: PLEASE READ

This year’s zone show as with previous years will incorporate OCA style judging based on the 1000 point system. Cars will not be judged as stringent like a national event. This show is about having fun! Some rules still apply like a fire extinguisher, 3 items that promote the club OCA, or your local chapter (newsletters, OCA window stickers, License plate frames, ECT.) and 3 literature items pertaining to the car (sales brochures, owner’s manuals, ECT).

This is a modified format from the national event and only 1st & 2nd place plaques will be handed out. There are special awards given too. To make the event a success we need volunteer judges to help Git’ er done! Please sign up and help.

Zone Show head judge, Chris Dreiling
