By: Ainsley Arrington James Renshaw Cox -He was born on March 7, He died on March 20, He was a candidate for president in he was a Roman Catholic priest at St. Patrick's Church Father Cox helped at homeless and unemployed shelters, and organized a food-relief program. Father Cox helped people (like this woman and her children) get food and a place to live. He organized soup kitchens, food- relief programs, and homeless shelters. He was also a cab driver and a steel worker before he became a priest. In January 1932, Cox led a march of 25,000 unemployed Pennsylvanians, called, "Cox's Army", on Washington, D.C. After the war, Father Cox enrolled into the University of Pittsburgh. He got a degree in economics and was appointed as pastor of St. Patrick's Church. This is the University of Pittsburgh (as of 1833). Father Coxs march sparked the formation of the Jobless Party. The Jobless Party supported government public works and labor unions, and spread in Pittsburgh and other major cities. After the war, he worked for the Pennsylvania Commission for the Unemployed. He was known as the Pittsburgh Pastor of the poor.
