Judge’s award and popular vote (Open) April meeting… C. Lulu ‘Hot Pink’ Grown by B & L. Larwood

Notes on growing conditions by Brian Larwood Hi all, just a short note about the growing conditions for this plant, Cattleya Lulu 'Hot Pink' is one of many different varieties of Laeliinae alliance that I grow in my shadehouse. For those members who have not seen my setup, it is a alumination framed tunnel house 10metres long and 4metres wide and at the highest point about 2.4metres.Three metres on the north end has a layer of horticultural grade plastic and two layers of medium density shade cloth, one layer will be removed, usually after Anzac Day. It is in this section where I grow my more tender plants, Laeliinae alliance, paphs, sarcs, phalaenopsis plus some odd bods. The remainder of the tunnel has cymbidiums, Australian native orchids, zygos some more odd bods and lots of tillandsia ( old mans beard ) nearly all my orchids are grown in the same medium, this is 50% pine bark and 50% perlite by volume, both available from our society, I try to fertilize at least twice each week using fertilizer also from our society. Everything I do is very simple but I attempt to keep it consistant, it works for me most times.

Editors Edition The photos included in this edition are editor’s choice of the better photos. Apologies to any members whose plants were not included. Phil Bunney & Shirley Anderton
