Hierdie, is Vlieg se ‘kind of magic’!

“A Kind Of Magic”It’s a kind of magic,It’s a kind of magic,

A kind of magic,One dream, one soul, one prize,

One goal, one golden glance of what should be,

It’s a kind of magic,

One shaft of light that shows the way,No mortal man can win this day,

It’s a mind of magic,The bell that rings inside your mind,It’s a challenging the doors of time,

It’s a kind of magic,The waiting seems eternity,The day will dawn of sanity,

It’s a kind of magic,There can be only one,

This rage that lasts a thousand yearsWill soon be gone,

This fl ame that burns inside of me,I’m hearing secret harmonies

It’s a kind of magic,The bell that rings inside your mind,

Is challenging the doors of time,It’s a kind of magic,It’s a kind of magic,

This rage that lasts a thousand years,Will soon be will soon be,

Will soon be gone,This is a kind of magic,

There can only be one,This life that lasts a thousand years,

Will soon be gone,Magic - it’s a kind of magic,

It’s a kind of magic,Magic, magic, magic, magic,

It’s magic,It’s a kind of magic.

A seasonal increase in malaria cases is ex-perienced in Limpopo, despite a prevention programme of R92 million to keep the infest-ing mosquito at bay.

In February noted cases escalated from 31 in the fi rst week up to 498 in the fourth week. These cases were reported from Sekororo, through Hoedspruit and Phal-aborwa to Musina.

Mr Philip Kruger of the Malaria Institute in Tzaneen explained that the disease is un-der control and care-fully monitored.

“Limpopo is epi-demic prone to ma-laria. As there is no eff ective control on malaria in neighbouring countries like Mosambique and Zimbabwe, people in Lim-popo should always be aware and take pre-cautionary measures..”

At least seventeen cases were reported at Tzaneen’s Mediclinic, of which three were isolated to private homes.

Two of them are Mr Jakkie Jacobs and his wife Judith of Crown Street in Tzaneen, who were treated in the intensive care unit the past week. They were possibly att acked by a stray mosquito, brought in by luggage or a vehicle coming from infected areas in the north.

Kruger said the insecticide DDT is still the most eff ective antipode to treat the infected areas. As it is a forbidden product world-

wide and only allowed against malaria, the production of the product is limited to one manufacturer in India. This company is con-stantly under pressure to deliver consign-ments to aff ected areas, but SA has suffi cient stock to control the disease.

According to Kru-ger at least 1,1 million households in the province were treat-ed with preventative spraying to stop sud-den outrbreaks of ma-laria.

“The awareness of malaria must always be a prerequisite when diseases such as fl ue and rising body temperatures are ex-perienced. Symptoms

such as fl ue, diarrhea and fever can be indi-cators. A test for malaria can be done at very low cost of R5 at any hospital or clinic, while the Malaria Institute in Van Riebeeck Street off ers free tests.

He also said the Institute reached an agree-ment with the university of Nagasaki in Ja-pan to do scientifi c tests meteriologically over the next fi ft y years in order to supply early warnings of malaria outbreaks.

“People in Limpopo must also take note that municipal clinics in aff ected areas in the province are all well equipped to test for malaria. They are in fact more effi cient than most hospitals in the province,” Kruger said.

Coetsee woon deesdae in Je reysbaai.

Lions gains two members... Two new members were inducted into Lions Tzaneen at Die Ark game farm outside Hoedspruit over the week-end. They are Mr Gerhardt Malan and his wife Rome. Lions President Martin Froise is seen

here with the couple.

Vandag vra sy of jy jou kind ken. Kontak haar by 084 414 6166 of 015 307 5029 vir navrae.

My kind is na n speltera-peut verwys en ontvang terapie. Wat Is my rol as ouer?

Wees asb positief oor tera-pie. Wees geduldig!

My name is Joy and I am an in-trovert. It actually means nothing to me, except that I realise some people are diff erent. Perhaps the best way I can describe them is that they seem more social, although the description is too broad to make a clear diff erentiation. Aft er all, are we all not social beings?

They interact a lot with everyone. Yes, they do and I never under-stand how they can go on for un-believable periods of time.

They are not exactly kind, the kindest of everyone. Some are kind and some are the meanest.

Most of them are deceptive. I have heard many people say I, as with many other people like me,

am very hard to read. I disagree strongly,

not in the least that I am a book. Extroverts are very hard to read, in my opinion. Per-haps it is because they interact with everyone. One never really knows which side they are on, or maybe they have a hard time making up their minds.

They are oft en truly less decisive and show no diff erence in passion. They either get passionate about everything or they are always mild.

Extroverts tend to love crowded spaces and informal gatherings. I know if anything, it takes me time to adapt to unplanned un-

precedented gatherings, especially with strangers and virtual stran-gers — people I have seen before, see from time to time, might even know their names and surnames, but we have never as much as even greeted each other.

It, however, does not mean I and other people like me (if any) are retarded (even socially), re-served (though some of us could be), unfriendly, cannot work with people or in groups, never enjoy

ourselves, are too uptight, hate people (though we may) or have whatever inad-equacies we tend to be assigned.

I am no psychologist, but I know I can do

more or less the same ac-tivities as extroverts, only in a dif-ferent sett ing and even bett er with less company.

The sett ing in this case is very im-portant, and sometimes where the world goes wrong with some of us.

When I was doing my matric, my school wanted to introduce this now trending rule that senior high school pupils stay behind aft er school and study — till the Lord knows when. I was lucky my

school never succeeded in imple-menting the rule, but I almost died when talks of making it solid pro-gressed.

It felt like a death sentence, con-sidering it has not been a year since I learnt to eff ectively engage my thoughts (not memory) when surrounded by people, and I am still not half as productive as in solitary spaces.

I feel for today’s pupils and how they are forced (in some schools) to study at school — practically in the same way and at the same time. It is completely a closed-minded system that does not al-low (in my opinion) for variety, creativity and for pupils to take responsibility of their own studies and learning methods.

Daar is ‘n lewendige kinderbedie-

The process of gett ing a licence to operate an entertainment where any form of gambling will take place, is not a short and quick one. Amongst other things, public participation has to be part of the process.

It will thus take until about October this year before Tzaneen’s keen Bingo play-ers would know if the planned Bin-go hall and enter-tainment area will become a reality.Bulletin can

exclusively an-nounce what is to be expected if the licence is granted. To start with, who wants to under-take the development of such an entertain-ment facility?

Goldrush Group (Pty) Ltd will hold the li-cence (if granted). The company started op-erations in the entertainment sector in 1998 and is now rated as the premier and largest operator in SA.

They employ seven hundred people in Gauteng, KZN, Mpumalanga, North West, the Northern Cape and the Western Cape. They hope to be operating three or four entertainment centres in Limpopo by early next year.

In Gauteng they operate seven of the eleven licenced entertainment centres and they are even more prominent in the other provinces.

They are prominent in major retail centres, such as Kolonnade Shopping Centre in Pre-toria, Centurion Lake Mall, Att erbury Value Mart, Middelburg Mall, Mooi River Mall, Platinum Mall etc.

In a meeting with the group’s Business De-

velopment Manager, Mr Kevin Balbach, he told us more about their plans; and we quote:

“The entertainment centre incorporating restaurants, a children’s area and Bingo of-fers a high class entertainment venue, cre-ating an experience that can be enjoyed in a

relaxed, safe and social environment by all age groups.

“It is important to note that the Bingo

hall is strictly controlled for 18 years and over only”, he said.

The fl oor plan below shows how the areas are seperated and there is no direct access to and from the restaurant that could be used to get into the Bingo hall.

Balbach added that “all our centres have the provision for corporate so-cial investment and provide to the commu-

nities in which they operate in providing to local community projects such as education, sport, arts and culture. The distribution of funds is coordinated by a trust”.

He also confi rmed that as well as the direct jobs created by the centre, a number of indi-rect jobs will also be created (maintenance, supply chain, food and beverage supplies, builders, printers etc).

The restaurant will seat 200 patrons and the entertainment centre will employ about fi ft y people. According to Balbach local peo-ple will be trained to work in both the Bingo hall and the restaurant. The training normal-ly takes about six months and then the centre will be managed by a local team.

The restaurant will be named Forty9er’s and an extensive menu will be off ered — from light snacks to seafood and great steaks, and they will off er breakfasts, lunch and dinner.

As tradition dictates, the fi ft h annual wine auction at Merensky High School was held on Friday 27 February. This evening of glitz and glamour proves to be a social highlight amongst wine lovers of the district, as more than three hundred tickets were sold well in ad-vance. The now familiar black and white dress code was beautifully enhanced by the Greek theme, and successful bidders enjoyed breaking plates in true Mediterranean style.

A novelty at this years’ event was the four PinZ²yl stud hides that were also auctioned as part of the fund raising eff ort. The hides drew huge interest and the bidding was very intense. The highlight of the

evening was undoubtedly the col-lection Kanonkop wines consisting of a 750 ml, 1,5-, 3-, 4-, 7-, 12- and 18 ℓ bott les.

Auctioneer Alan Sinclair had no problem to raise the bidding, as guests enjoyed the unique oppor-tunity to tap wine from a genu-

ine oak wine barrel fi lled with Shiraz from Winkelshoek Cel-lars, whilst dining in style on a scrumptious meal prepared and served by the school’s hospitality students.

From a humble beginning, with only forty bott les auctioned at a matric reunion, to over a thou-sand bott les sold this year, shows that Merensky provides in the local wine lover’s needs with the best wines on off er.

Ms Glynis Labuschagne and her husband Johan (pastor) and Ms Christina Krüger enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the wine auction. Past Labuschagne is also the chairman of Merensky’s

governing body.

Wine auction was a huge success

A lot of hard work went into organising the wine auction at Merensky. Dr Christo Pretorius (centre), who is also the vice-chairman of the schools governing body, has been the driving force behind this highly successful event, where Tzaneen and surrounds’ who’s who meet every year. On the left is Mr Alan Snclair who was this year’s auctioneer and on the right is Mr Ben van Coller. He assisted Pretorius in putting this year’s event together.

Mr Magnus Steyn (Merensky’s headmaster) and his wife Ronel, and Mr Riebert Pretorius and his wife Hanlie were enjoying the scene outside the hall, before the auction started.

Ms Lana Labuschagne was seen fi lling her glass with some exotic sherry from a wooden cask , before the start of the wine auction

and dinner at Merensky.

On Saturday last week Merensky’s rugby teams played against Eric Louw High School in Musina.

According to the new rugby coach, Mr Kobus Vorster, this fi rst friend-ly match of the season awarded all the players the opportunity to show their skills on the rug-by fi eld. The boys were chomping at the bit, and all the teams won their

games: u.15’s won 39-3; u.16’s 21-6; fi rst team 26-16.

The fi rst team’s tries were scored by JD le Grange (fi rst try in the 7th minute of the game), Mikyle le Roux, Sipho Ntswanisi and Rasenge Kubayi. Three of these tries were converted by Tony Manamela, ad-ding six points to the fi nal score. Mikyle le Roux was named man of the match.

Man of the match, Mikyle le Roux

Plasies excel on motorbikesLuan Schambriel, a Gr 9 pupil of Mer-ensky High School took top honours when he came fi rst in the junior di-vision of the Polokwane motocross event on Saturday last week.

Wilmarie Moller, in Gr 10, also showed her mett le during the SA Na-tionals Off -road Quad Bike racing. In the pro open division, she was placed eleventh.

A couple of Merensky’s girls hockey teams travelled to Musina to meet with opponents from Eric Louw on Saturday last week. All the teams started o very well, claiming victory in all of their matches. The u.16 girls triumphed with a good score of 7-0. Clariska Venter scored two goals, while Noko Mabilu, Hayley Stephenson, Diane Wiggel, Corli van der Merwe and Delean O’Neill each scored one. The rst hockey team raised the bar when they concluded the game with 11-0, proving that they are more than ready for the season. Four goals were scored by Juané Fernandes, three by Xané du Toit with Pat Madelane and Lilly Pohl each scoring two.

Die punt is, AB, Martin verstaan nie S u i d - A f r i k a n e r s soos jy en Oubal nie.

Martin is reg oor Imran, julle moet

“I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite.” — Gilbert K. Chesterton
